Trans-Tasman Trophy - 2nd Test

New Zealand v Australia

Australia won by 176 runs

Overs 1-50  | Overs 51-100

10.55am: The start is five minutes away. Ponting expects some seam movement early on and the wicket t get slower and take turn in the coming days. Vettori wanted to bat as well. We'll see who goes home happy.

The players are out. Introductions now, I'm Kanishkaa Balachandran, glad to be taking a short break from the IPL! Good old Test cricket for a day.

Three slips and a gully. Watson returns.

Good morning everyone and welcome to Cricinfo's coverage of the second and final Test between New Zealand and Australia at Seddon Park. The toss is just a short while away. The weather looks great for cricket, not sunny but not too cloudy either.

Toss: Ponting has won the toss and Australia will bat. Shane Watson is back and 'poor old' Phillip Hughes sits out, according to the captain.

Mathew Sinclair comes in for Peter Ingram, Tuffey sits out and Jeetan Patel comes in. The president of New Zealand Cricket presents a memento to Vettori for playing his 100th Test, only the second New Zealand player to do so, after Stephen Fleming.

Just watching a video montage of Vettori's career so far. I remember being at school and reading about this long-haired bespectacled dude, only 18, making his debut for New Zealand. We didn't have coverage of New Zealand home matches in India back then, so it took a while for Indian viewers to get a glimpse of Vettori.

If I'm not wrong, he's probably the cleanest international cricketer around alongwith Sachin Tendulkar, in terms of his conduct on the field and the respect he commands. Has Vettori ever been summoned to the match referee's room for any offense apart from slow over-rate? I don't think so. It all adds up in making him the great cricketer that he is. On behalf of all of us here at Cricinfo, we salute you, Dan!

The teams are up above and updated.

Back to Vettori, take a look at our tributes cluster. My pick would be Brydon's piece on catching up with his parents. Also read David Leggat's piece, The Atlas of the antipodes.

Glenn's two cents on Vettori: "As an Australian I'd have to go so far as to say he is the best all round cricketer today, and i'd reckon we would have him in a second, shame he didn't stay in Sydney as a boy. True champion in a very characterless and sordid era."
