India in New Zealand T20I Series - 2nd T20I

New Zealand v India

New Zealand won by 5 wickets (with 0 balls remaining)

The players are out. Irfan to begin. One slip in place, busy off-side field

0.1

IK Pathan to Ryder, SIX, what a way to start! Irfan piches it on a good length and there's a lot of audacity in that shot as he clubs him over long-on, that went rows back

0.2

IK Pathan to Ryder, no run, better delivery, he lands it outside off and he gets it to move away and beats him

0.3

IK Pathan to Ryder, no run, stretches his bat out to leave but the ball moves away and nearly takes the edge

0.4

IK Pathan to Ryder, no run, another superb delivery, this one cramps him for room and slices him with the late away movement

McCullum has a leg slip

0.6

IK Pathan to BB McCullum, no run, lands it bang on target and the batsman pats it back down the pitch, nice comeback after the first-ball six

1.5

Khan to Ryder, no run, another snorter of a delivery, moves away late and beats him late on the forward prod

1.6

Khan to Ryder, FOUR, super shot! It was just fractionally short of a length and Ryder did extremely well to adjust and pull him on the front foot

End of over 2 (8 runs) New Zealand 15/0 (135 runs required from 18 overs, RR: 7.50, RRR: 7.50)
JD Ryder    15* (11b 2x4 1x6)      Z Khan    1-0-8-0

Here's Ishant Sharma. I would have opened with him

3.1

Sharma to BB McCullum, no run, makes an impact straightaway as he gets it to cut back in and cause problems as McCullum gets forward too early

3.2

Sharma to BB McCullum, FOUR, very unlucky for Ishant, McCullum gets forward early again and shapes to drive but gets am inside edge which beats the stumps and the keeper

3.3

Sharma to BB McCullum, FOUR, streaky yet again and New Zealand will take the, he swishes hard to loft him over the off side but the ball flies off the top of the bat and travels to third man

Khan to Ryder, 1 run, gets a leading edge to the off side and Ishant dives to stop it and injures his shoulder, Rohit replaces him in the field

4.4

Khan to Ryder, OUT, Zaheer just manages to hit the timber, the ball comes back in and the faintest of touches clips the off bail, I don't think Ryder saw that properly

JD Ryder b Khan 26 (22m 15b 3x4 2x6) SR: 173.33

4.5

Khan to Guptill, no run, Guptill gets an absolute beauty first up, the ball comes back in and moves in late, very well left

4.6

Khan to Guptill, no run, this one moves away and nearly takes the edge, Dhoni doesn't appeal though, I don't think there was an edge

5.4

8.5

Harbhajan Singh to Guptill, OUT, very bizarre decision! Guptill aims to pull a short delivery and gets a thick inside edge onto his thigh, the Indians appeal and the inside edge was obvious to the naked eye, umpire Gary Baxter doesn't appear as if if he's going to give it out and then all of a sudden raises the finger, Guptill doesn't want to go and McCullum can't believe it either

19.1

IK Pathan to NL McCullum, 1 leg bye, swings it on the pads, the ball clips the pads and rolls to the on side, they scamper a single

A bit of confusion here. Someone from the crowd has flung something in Zaheer's Khan direction and Dhoni has a word with the umpire. Did we need this? Dhoni maneuvers the field.

19.5

IK Pathan to BB McCullum, FOUR, McCullum goes one better! The ball is pitched up on middle and leg, he scoops it over the bowler's head and long-off dives in despair

The scores are level. Now it appears as if we have crowd trouble again. What a shame. There's a bit of debris on one side of the ground. If it's a tie we have a Super Over. Everyone in the ring

19.6

IK Pathan to BB McCullum, 1 run, Rohit runs back and nearly pulls off a catch running backwards! McCullum flat-bats a length ball and mishits it over the off side, Rohit is a little too close at mid-off and the ball beats him in the air as he runs back, he fails to get a hand to it, really Brendon McCullum would have had his heart in his mouth, nevertheless, it's been a terrific game

Brendon McCullum plays the hero again but in more trying circumstances. He remains unbeaten on 69 and New Zealand claim a clean-sweep of the Twenty20s. Nothing to differentiate the two sides today. Credit to India for nearly defending 150. Just a reminder that Rohit Sharma was in the field for Ishant Sharma who injured his shoulder while fielding.

This close contest nicely sets up the five one-dayers. Stay with us for the presentation.

Dhoni: "The approach was good but we could have played better. The two-three wickets we lost in the middle were crucial. The spinners bowled well. There was chat around the camp to bowl one more seamer. I can't really update you on Ishant's injury."

Vettori: "Pleased with the bowling effort. Guys like Ryder stepped up really well. We had an opportunity to attack their fifth bowler but it didn't work. I thought Irfan bowled superbly at the end. But I thought those two fours by McCullum were crucial."

Brendon McCullum is the Man of the Match. He gets the champagne.

Thanks for your company and the mails. We'll be back for the 1st ODI in Napier on March 3. It's a day-night game. From all of us here, it's goodbye!
