India in New Zealand T20I Series - 2nd T20I

New Zealand v India

New Zealand won by 5 wickets (with 0 balls remaining)

6.59 Gambhir has the strike. Southee to open up. ON ON

6.50 pm: Mails are pouring in on the Indian selection today. You can take this discussion to Cricinfo's exclusive Facebook page.

I forgot to mention that a Twenty20 game was played on this same pitch a few hours back between NZCPA and ACA. I wish I knew the result of that. According to Mark Richardson, the pitch should hold firm for another 40 overs.

Somesh from India: "India is starting to feel the pinch from Sreesanth's absence as a worthy 3rd seamer option behind zaheer and Ishant.. Irfan is certainly past his sell-by date and Dhaval and Praveen are not in the Sreesanth/RP category..I just hope Zaheer/Ishant dont get injured during the one day leg."

6.35pm:
Teams One change for India. Ravindra Jadeja replaces Rohit Sharma. New Zealand are unchanged.

Remember Jadeja is here only for the Twenty20 games so he'll have something to tell his folks back home. Rohit made a start in Christchurch but gave it away with a leading edge. So much for placing my money on Praveen Kumar replacing Irfan. As always, my predictions are wrong.

Which is why I've retired from all forms of Fantasy cricket. But that shouldn't stop you from playing the special Ind-NZ fantasy edition. Challenge your friends. It's fun.

6.30pm
Toss: Vettori has won the toss again and New Zealand will bowl. Vettori said Jacob Oram will not bowl, despite him warming up this morning.

It looks quite overcast at the venue but no threat of rain yet.

6.20 pm: It's a packed cricketing day and the action now shifts to the Westpac Stadium in windy Wellington for the second Twenty20 between New Zealand and India. Good morning wherever you are and thanks for joining us on Cricinfo. This is Kanishkaa Balachandran and I will keep you company for the next few hours. Joining me today is Binoy George on scoring and Siddarth Ravindran on bulletin.

The pressure is on India to square the Twenty20 leg of the tour after an overconfident performance in Christchurch two days back. But as Yuvraj Singh pointed out, that defeat shouldn't be treated as a setback. It shouldn't be, really. It's just a Twenty20, that too the opening game of the tour. We're just moments away from the toss and teams so sit tight.

I'm putting my money on Praveen Kumar replacing Irfan Pathan. But i wonder how effective he will be bowling into the wind.

0.1

0.4

Southee to Gambhir, no run, fires it full on the off stump and a booming straight drive finds mid-off

0.5

Southee to Gambhir, no run, pace and bounce and excellent carry, clearly the pace was a bit too much for Gambhir as he tried to angle it away to the off side, the outside edge wasn't too far

0.6

Southee to Gambhir, 1 run, taps it in front of the crease and Sehwag hurries him to go for the single, nice end to the over after the wide ball at the start

End of over 1 (2 runs) India 2/0 (RR: 2.00)

1.6

O'Brien to Sehwag, 1 run, fires it full and he pushes it just wide of mid-off

End of over 2 (12 runs) India 14/0 (RR: 7.00)

2.1

Southee to Sehwag, 1 run, strays on the pads and he shuffles across and glances it fine

2.2

Southee to Gambhir, 1 run, tip and run, good thinking by Gambhir as he sets off for a quick single to the off side

2.3

Southee to Sehwag, FOUR, directs a short of a length ball on the body and he whips it high over square leg, fine leg runs across in despair

4.2

Butler to Gambhir, 1 leg bye, just a little fuller and he pushes it back to the bowler off his pads

4.3

Butler to Raina, OUT, another Indian batsman gives away his wicket, Butler bangs it in short and Raina tries to pull it over mid-on, there was a lot of bat speed on that one but the ball hit the top half of the bat and spliced to Southee who jumps and takes it at mid-on, it was a lot like Alastair Cook's dismissal in Kingston

India end on 149, thirteen fewer than what they managed in Christchurch. New Zealand have done well to restrict them to this score thanks to their discipline. Despite a couple of dropped catches, it was a top effort in the field. Dhoni struggled with his timing. At the break, NZ will fancy their chances again.
