Sri Lanka in New Zealand ODI Series - 3rd ODI

New Zealand v Sri Lanka

New Zealand won by 4 wickets (with 129 balls remaining) (D/L method)

Good news Game about to start. The players are walking on to the middle.

Update Bad news. It has started to rain again. It is pretty dark and gloomy out there. Pity. The lights are on. We can do nothing but wait.

Something to keep you engrossed while we wait for the gloom to clear up. Click here to read Kumar Sangakkara's thoughts on how the series-levelling Test win at Wellington was plotted.

Hello and welcome to the third ODI. I am Sriram Veera and will be bringing you all the live action today.

News The scheduled start was delayed by 20 minutes. Earlier, New Zealand won the toss and chose to bowl. Shane Bond is back. So is Nathan Astle, who missed the last game with severe bruising suffered during his innings of 83 in the opening match. Sri Lanka decided to rest opening bowlers Lasith Malinga and Chaminda Vaas, allowing Dilhara Fernando and Ruchira Perera into the side.:

Fullish, on the legs, Atapattu flicks, in the air, and straight to the man standing behind square-leg. Update 1.52 pm local time It has stopped raining. The covers are coming off. The umpires are inspecting the conditions. Hopefully, we should have play soon.

Rain halts play again. The elements continue to tease us. The players are off, the covers are on, and umbrellas are out. It is just a strong drizzle, not a downpour.

Sri Lanka are tottering at the Jade stadium. They can't blame the conditions though. Only Jayasuriya got a peach of a delivery, others have got out to some poor shot selections , rather poor execution. Atappatu's was a soft dismissal, popping a catch off a fullish delivery on the legs. He couldn't keep it down. Neither could Sangakkara who pulled straight to square-leg. Tharanga didn't execute his pull shot well and to be fair to him, it was an outstanding catch by McCullum. Silva tried to hit a slightly slower delivery on the up and paid for it.

It was a good toss to win. There was bit of movement and bounce early on and Sri Lanka were undone by Mason who scythed through the top order. They didn't help their own cause by some poor execution. New Zealand climbed all over SL after the Mason show. The weather is getting better, the sun is peeping out. Join us in a while to catch up with the New Zealand chase.
