Captain Guy Earle, the former Somerset cricketer, died at Wincanton, Somerset, on December 30, aged 75. He was in the Harrow XI from 1907 to 1910, and was captain in his final year, in "Fowler's Match." He was then a fast bowler, but as his career progressed he turned more to batting and became one of the most tremendous hitters of his day. After a few games for Surrey he qualified for Somerset and played for them between 1922 and 1931. His fast-scoring feats were legion and he treated the famous as well as the lesser bowlers with the same disregard. He toured India with MCC in 1926-27, when he hit eight sixes in a tremendous 130 v the Hindus at Bombay in 90 minutes - his highest first-class score. He also toured Australia and New Zealand with MCC in 1929-30 and went three times to Egypt with H. M. Martineau.
