Major Gustavus Fowke., captain of Leicestershire from 1922 to 1927, died on June 24, aged 65. He learned the game at Uppingham, where he was in the XI, and played for the county in 1908. Altogether he made 4,663 runs, average 19.75, in first-class cricket, faring best in 1922 with 922 runs in championship matches, and next year hitting 104 at Northampton, his first century for Leicestershire.
