United Arab Emirates sealed a resounding win, and a place in the semi-finals, on the final day of their Intercontinental Cup match at the Royal Selangor Club in Kuala Lumpur. After declaring on 211 for 7, UAE bowled Malaysia out for just 147, with Mohammad Tauqir taking 6 for 17.
The clouds started to roll in and the weather turned threatening first thing this morning, and UAE, who resumed on 162 for 3, went for their shots in an effort to post a good total. Arshad Ali (78), Kashif Khan and Khuram Khan all fell to excellent catches from the Malaysian fielders, and UAE declared setting Malaysia a target of 270.
Malaysia got off to a solid start, rattling along at four-an-over for the first 10 overs, but Tauqir then instigated their second collapse of the match, including the loss of five middle-order wickets for just 12 runs. From 42 for 0, Malaysia were bowled out for 147, with Tauqir's haul taking his match tally to 10 for 51. He was named Man of the Match for his efforts, and UAE's victory means they will meet Canada in the semi-finals in Sharjah in November.
