PI is a bit of an English-Englishism - it is short for "pious" and means "like a goody-goody"

PI stands for very good, it's british slang for 'pious'

Very enjoyable cryptic clues. 20A, 27A, 1D, 4D & 8D were most enjoyable. 3D was a little difficult but was able to get it once the surrounding clues were revealed. Couldn't figure out the 'PI' in 10A eventhough was able to crack the answer. Overall, great puzzle.
