WAPDA storm to three-day win against UBL
A collective bowling performance from Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) routed United Bank Limited (UBL) twice in Sargodha to complete victory by an innings and 109 runs. UBL were dismissed for 121 and 91, while WAPDA made 321.
UBL were asked to bat on the first day and had reached 51 for 1 before their troubles began. They lost five wickets for 12 runs, and were in danger of being dismissed for less than 100, until Kashif Bhatti hit 39 off 34 deliveries. Azhar Attari and Zulfiqar Babar took three wickets apiece as UBL were shot out for 121 in 39.2 overs.
Half-centuries from three of WAPDA's top four batsmen ensured their side would secure a huge first-innings lead. Kaleem Ahmed scored 70, Shoaib Maqsood made 52 and Aamer Sajjad 54. There was a middle-order wobble during which WAPDA lost four wickets for 51 runs but the lower order rallied and took the score to 321, a first-innings lead of 200. Rumman Raees claimed 4 for 66 for UBL, while Mohammad Irshad took 3 for 87.
UBL showed little fight in their second innings, crumbling for 91 in 24.5 overs. Attari and Babar took three wickets each once again, and the game ended inside three days. UBL captain Asad Ali, who made 36, was the only batsman to make more than 20 in the second innings.
