England 11/1   IJL Trott 0* (7b)

8.1

Umar Gul to Trott, FOUR, Trott at his best. The walking clip through square that he plays with a swagger that is more subcontinental than English. Gul angled this into the pads, helping Trott work it around and he played it uppishly, but away from the man at square leg.

8.2

Umar Gul to Trott, 1 run, length ball, Trott's feet and moving well and early. He drops the ball softly into the off side for a quick single.

8.5

8.6

Umar Gul to Trott, 3 runs, over-pitched wide of off stump, Trott doesn't get the feet right across to the length, but drives reasonably fluently into the covers for a couple.

England 20/1   IJL Trott 8* (11b 1x4)

9.4

England 20/1   IJL Trott 8* (17b 1x4)

10.3

Aizaz Cheema to Trott, FOUR, edged, but controlled well and Trott gets four through the gully. Cheema hits a shorter length and gets the ball to hold its line. Trott went back and looked to ride the bounce, but edged it. He softened the grip and the ball went down immediately.

10.4

Aizaz Cheema to Trott, FOUR, inside edge now, and it misses the stumps. Top-class stuff from Cheema, produces the inward swerve now, accentuated by his wide of the crease angle. Trott was sucked forward into a cover drive, but the inward movement produced the inside edge, and it burst past the furniture. Close.

10.5

Aizaz Cheema to Trott, no run, lets this one go through outside off, and Adnan collects it.

10.6

Aizaz Cheema to Trott, no run, ends with one back of a length, and Trott hops across to defend to the leg side. Impressive comeback over from Cheema, who is outbowling Gul easily at the moment.

11.6

Mohammad Hafeez to Trott, 1 run, drifts onto the pads, Trott looks to whip it round the corner and gets a single behind square.

England 31/1   IJL Trott 17* (26b 3x4)

12.1

12.2

Aizaz Cheema to Trott, no run, whangs it in short of a length at 137 kph and gets the ball to straighten. Another leave from Trott.

12.3

Aizaz Cheema to Trott, OUT, Trott's gone now, tickling a ball that was sailing harmlessly down the leg side! Pakistan have made two huge blows within the first hour. He shuffles across a short of length ball that bustled through, possibly faster than he expected, and bounced a touch extra as well. Trott looked to glance it, but ended up edging it too fine and a prancing Adnan takes a good tumbling catch. Who said the Akmals were butter-fingered? England have lost their Ashes heroes for very little, but there's plenty left in the cylinder.
