Pakistan v England Test Series - 1st Test

England v Pakistan

Pakistan won by 10 wickets

Overs 1-50  | Overs 51-100

8.1

Umar Gul to Trott, FOUR, Trott at his best. The walking clip through square that he plays with a swagger that is more subcontinental than English. Gul angled this into the pads, helping Trott work it around and he played it uppishly, but away from the man at square leg.

England 15/1   IJL Trott 4* (8b 1x4)   Umar Gul 4.1-2-7-0

10.3

Aizaz Cheema to Trott, FOUR, edged, but controlled well and Trott gets four through the gully. Cheema hits a shorter length and gets the ball to hold its line. Trott went back and looked to ride the bounce, but edged it. He softened the grip and the ball went down immediately.

England 25/1   IJL Trott 12* (18b 2x4)   Aizaz Cheema 2.3-0-12-0

10.4

Aizaz Cheema to Trott, FOUR, inside edge now, and it misses the stumps. Top-class stuff from Cheema, produces the inward swerve now, accentuated by his wide of the crease angle. Trott was sucked forward into a cover drive, but the inward movement produced the inside edge, and it burst past the furniture. Close.

England 29/1   IJL Trott 16* (19b 3x4)   Aizaz Cheema 2.4-0-16-0

14.1

Aizaz Cheema to Strauss, FOUR, full and squeezed out past gully and it races away to third man. Just a little jab drive an it squirted off a bit of an outside edge, safely though

England 36/2   AJ Strauss 14* (28b 1x4)   Aizaz Cheema 4.1-0-21-1

31.1

Umar Gul to Morgan, FOUR, oh I say, driven for four! First of the match. Bit of a squirted outside edge but four to third man past point

England 61/5   EJG Morgan 12* (28b 1x4)   Umar Gul 6.1-3-16-0

32.3

40.3

England 100/7   GP Swann 4* (7b 1x4)   Saeed Ajmal 13.2-5-27-5

44.5

England 104/7   GP Swann 8* (10b 2x4)   Saeed Ajmal 13.5-5-31-5

47.6

Aizaz Cheema to Prior, FOUR, a forced square-drive from Prior, half thick-edge, half steer behind gully. Length ball from Cheema, he was hoping Prior would go for it with an opened face, but Prior had enough control to get his first four.

England 116/7   MJ Prior 30* (87b 1x4)   Aizaz Cheema 12-0-43-1

48.2

Saeed Ajmal to Swann, FOUR, four more, this is a sprightly little piece of resistance authored mainly by Swann. He again laces Ajmal into the covers, reaching out to the flight and negating the variations. Is the England top order watching?

England 120/7   GP Swann 15* (20b 3x4)   Saeed Ajmal 15.2-5-40-5

52.3

Umar Gul to Swann, FOUR, gorgeous timing from Swann. Length ball from Gul, offering Swann the room to indulge himself and his hands come through in a little arc of precision, that sends the ball sputtering through the covers.

England 128/7   GP Swann 22* (37b 4x4)   Umar Gul 10.3-4-31-0

53.4

Abdur Rehman to Swann, FOUR, Swann continues playing some delightful strokes. Tossed up to him, and he takes Rehman on with a golf-swing after lunging out to the flight. He middles it and lauches over mid-on. Well played.
