Pakistan v South Africa ODI Series - 1st ODI

Pakistan v South Africa

South Africa won by 1 run

2.50pm: Some of you asking about Steyn and Amla. Amla's gone back home for the birth of his child. Steyn's being rested but he's part of the squad anyway. We will see him at some stage.

Mubashir Hussain: "Brave decision from SA to left Robin Peterson as he can also bat a bit in the end to provide some valuable runs unlike Imran Tahir." Heard that Peterson was left out because he is ill.

Arjmand Faheem: "Where is Shafiq the Centurion and arguably today's best Pakistan batsman technically. Worst think tank in the World is Pakistans."

Disaster: "can anyone please justify me that why on earth Wahab Riaz or Sohail Tanveer are in the playing eleven instead of Junaid Khan." Anyone eavesdropping near the dressing room?

Habib: "@Disaster: The only reason I can think of is that Wahab and Sohail can bat it a bit. If this is the reason, Junaid's exclusion due to this is utter nonsense."

Toss: SA have won the toss and they are batting first. Imran Tahir gets a game today. So does Wayne Parnell.

Pakistan are playing three seamers. Umar Akmal is back and so is Umar Amin, in place of Asad Shafiq. The teams will be updated above soon.

The three seamers are Wahab, Tanvir and Irfan.

Shoaib: "Good toss to lose as it will allow Pakistan to test the so called fragile ODI batting line up of SA. Also good that they have to chase! They somehow have to learn how to chase:)"

Sarfaraz Hyder: "This ODI series is poised quite nicely due to the fact that the Test Series was drawn, with each team performing really well in one out of two of the test matches!"

3.15pm: Good day everyone and welcome to the coverage of the first of five ODIs. The teams are now in Sharjah. The toss is on in 15 minutes, you may read the preview.

Isn't it surprising that Pakistan have never beaten SA in a bilateral one-day series? Tell you what they have a good chance to get that bogey off their backs. Pakistan have been in fine one-day form this year, South Africa have been lackluster.

Pitch: Kepler Wessels says this is a bat first pitch because it tends to slow down later in the evening. It's also very hot. Naturally, since he was wearing a suit. Not the most appropriate gear for this weather.

kashif: "Why is pakistan not giving a chance to Muhammad Rizwan (Wk), In place of sarfraz and adnan again and again."

0.1

Mohammad Irfan to Ingram, no run, starts off with a full one on the stumps and driven down to mid-on

0.2

Mohammad Irfan to Ingram, OUT, Irfan has struck second ball! Ingram squared up by extra bounce, short of a length and Ingram was pinned to the back foot, held his bat out to fend it away, took the outside edge and the men behind the wicket knew instantly he was gone

Mohammad Irfan to Duminy, no run, fires that full on the stumps and driven down the track and Irfan stops it with his boot

Umair Qazi: "Pakistan fans criticizing the team management for leaving out Asad Shafiq need to try and distinguish between ODI and Test performances. Asad Shafiq has been a superstar in tests, but an utter failure in ODIs. There is logic behind the decision. It is the right decision."

0.5

Mohammad Irfan to Duminy, no run, this one hurried him at the crease, extra bounce and he awkwardly fended it off

0.6

Mohammad Irfan to Duminy, no run, this one comes back in off the pitch, not much bounce off a good length and left alone

Imran: "Summing up Arjmand and Disaster. Again PAK team isnt balanced, 4 seamers which had Sohail and Wahab, both are usless, replace them with Junaid and play Asad Shafiq as an extra batsman, so you will need that when chasing. Hafeez and Amin can easily share a quota of 10 overs, Amin can't be in just as a batsman. I dont know when selectors and coach learn this."
