Pakistan v South Africa T20I Series - 1st T20I

Pakistan v South Africa

South Africa won by 9 wickets (with 33 balls remaining)

Ahmed Shehzad and Sohaib Maqsood have walked out to open, no Mohammad Hafeez there. Promotion there for Maqsood on the back of his form and scoring ability. Lonwabo Tsotsobe has the new ball and he begins with a slip...

Maze: "Pakistan already has 3 allrounders (Shoaib Malik, Shahid Afridi and Abdul Razzaq). I would have gone with Junaid Khan instead of Sohail Tanvir."

Abdul : "now thats what I call a Pak team, 8 bowling options and 7-8 batters.. will be fun.."

Adnan: "Ridiculous team selection by Pakistan. When Afridi, Abdur Razzaq and Shoaib malik are in team what is the need for 5 bowlers including Afridi who is an all rounder in this format"

Pakistan, ranked second, can top the T20 rankings if they win both the matches from here. Abdul Razzaq last played a T20I in October last year and he's back in the squad. For more, read Firdose Moonda's preview here.

Toss Pakistan have won the toss and will bat first.

Mohammad Hafeez: The luck is back with us with the toss. We want to play on our strengths and we have a good bowling attack. We will look to post a total and will try to defend it. We believe as a team we try to express ourselves in this format. I feel everyone is favourites today.

Faf du Plessis: We would have batted as well. We need extra batting in this format and Morne Morkel is missing out. This format allows individuals to perform on the night and you don't need too many. Our bowlers will come out with intensity and our batters can do the job. I enjoy captaincy and think a lot on the field. So I'm looking forward to the challenge.

Pakistan XI: Ahmed Shehzad, Mohammad Hafeez, Sohaib Maqsood, Shoaib Malik, Umar Akmal, Abdul Razzaq, Shahid Afridi, Sohail Tanvir, Abdur Rehman, Saeed Ajmal, Mohammad Irfan

South Africa XI: H Amla, Q de Kock, F du Plessis, JP Duminy, AB de Villiers, D Miller, R McLaren, W Parnell, D Steyn, L Tsotsobe, Imran Tahir

7.20pm Hello and welcome to the first of the two T20s between Pakistan and South Africa. Pakistan were beaten comprehensively in the ODIs, but can a new format and a new squad change their fortunes? It should be answered in about three hours from now.

Kepler Wessels says that the pitch can get you good results if you bowl well. There's not a lot of grass and there might be a bit of dew later on. The team winnings the toss should bat first.

Saeed Ajmal to face the last ball of the innings

19.6

Steyn to Saeed Ajmal, OUT, Steyn gets the of stump! Pitches it slightly short on off, it was going straight as Ajmal tries to scoop it on leg by coming across and missed it completely

Saeed Ajmal b Steyn 0 (2m 1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

9.33pm Another disappointing batting performance from Pakistan fails to deliver against another fine bowling performance from South Africa. Maqsood opened, Afridi came at No. 3 but nothing worked for them as Tsotsobe and Steyn jolted them right from the beginning. Only Umar Akmal could connect a few and his 49 almost took them to 100. We'll be back with the chase in about 10 minutes

End of over 20 (4 runs) Pakistan 98/9
     DW Steyn    4-0-15-3
Abdur Rehman    7* (12b)      WD Parnell    4-0-27-0
