Pakistan have left out Nasir Jamshed and Umar Amin from their ODI squad for the series against Sri Lanka in the UAE, and have brought in Sharjeel Khan and Haris Sohail as their like-for-like replacements.

Jamshed and Amin were part of the squad that beat South Africa 2-1 away last month - Pakistan's first bilateral ODI series victory against South Africa. Jamshed had scored 2 and 24 in the two matches he played, while Amin made 25 in his only appearance. Amin is part of the T20 squad for the ongoing series against Sri Lanka in the UAE.

Sharjeel made his international T20 debut in a one-off encounter against Afghanistan on December 9. He followed that up with a solid performance in the first T20I against Sri Lanka in Dubai on Wednesday, scoring 34 off 31 balls, as the hosts wrapped up a three-wicket victory.

Sohail is also a relatively new face for Pakistan, having made his T20I debut against West Indies on July 28. He has gone on to add four ODIs to his career, with the last of them against Zimbabwe on August 27.

Fast bowlers Umar Gul and Mohammad Irfan were not considered for selection because they are recuperating from injuries.

Squad: Misbah-ul-Haq (capt), Mohammad Hafeez, Sharjeel Khan, Ahmed Shehzad, Sohaib Maqsood, Haris Sohail, Asad Shafiq, Umar Akmal, Shahid Afridi, Saeed Ajmal, Abdur Rehman, Junaid Khan, Anwar Ali, Sohail Tanvir, Bilawal Bhatti

Rifkhan: I completely disagree with you, Hafeez is a proper ODI batsman, you might not know that Hafeez has been involved several times in best batting partnerships, which proves he is good.

Posted by   on (December 18, 2013, 6:28 GMT)

hafeez is nt sure batsman he is not top order batsman he is 6/7,one down player is maqsood or u.akmal is match, this two batsman is very intelligent player my xi (1.sehzad,2.sarjeel,3.u.akmal/maqsood,4.misbah,5.haris sohail,6.u.akmal/maqsood,7.hafeez,8.afridi,9.tanvir,10.ajmal,11.junaid

Posted by   on (December 17, 2013, 19:37 GMT)

This will be if we don't lose early wicket......1.Sharjeel K., 2.A.Shehzad, 3.S.Maqsood, 4.Haris Sohail 5.Misbah, 6.U.Akmal, 7.S.Afridi, 8.B.Bhatti, 9.Anwar A./S.Tanvir 10.S.Ajmal, 11.Junaid K. 12.M.Hafeez......,,|,,,If we lose early wicket then Misbah should come on 4 and Haris @5.

Posted by   on (December 17, 2013, 2:31 GMT)

- I do not really see a place for Hafeez in this XI.

- We are keeping too many all rounders in the squad. I do not think Anwar Ali can do much at international level. To be honest, his domestic record is mediocre as well.

My XI:

Sharjeel Khan, Ahmed Shahzad, Haris Sohail, Shoaib Maqsood, Misbah, Umer A, Afridi, Bilawal B, Sohail Tanvir, Saeed Ajmal, Junaid Khan

I put Shoaib at #4 because Haris Sohail has a better technique then him against fast bowlers and he can really play spinners well. I do not see a place for Hafeez in this line up. Shoaib Maqsood can do a bit of bowling so give him a couple of overs if you need some help.

There is no place for Asad Shafiq and Anwar Ali in this squad. Bring in Zain Abbas or Babar Azam and Sadaf Hussain.

Posted by   on (December 16, 2013, 21:42 GMT)

Nice to see Haris in the squad. I hope he gets fair number of matches.

Posted by immi2711 on (December 16, 2013, 17:25 GMT)

I am very surprised SADAF Hussain is not given an opportunity here...For a second I thought he was from Sind/Baluchistan/NWFP...but the guy is from your province....the great PUNJAB...and he is still being overlooked. I dont understand...shocked. You already have 80% of the players in the team from our great province of PUNJAB...why not make it 90%.....come on Punjabis, raise your hand...scream injustice...revolution....yeaaa...come on can do it, you can get a team compromising of all from already get....aaahhh forget thing at a time, lets make Punjabistan, if not then at least our cricket team should be all Punjabis.....come on knuckle heads, come on you can do it...

Posted by Shan.z on (December 16, 2013, 16:37 GMT)

Misbah need to force hafeez to bat down the order and use Maqsood at 3. Hafeez is a free wicket for fast bowlers at no 3. I am not sure why Pakistani management can not work this out. He is good spinner that does not mean he can bat wherever he wish to. Use him as bowling alrounder if he does not agree make him sit on the bench. We have enough talent.

Posted by   on (December 16, 2013, 15:41 GMT)

I think the selection is fair keeping in mind talents. We should have added M.talha as a fast bowler. We have to make sure that our bowlers can bat and fielding of the player should be kept in mind. Now we have found new attacking players, my ODI side is shehzad, Sarjeel, Asad Shafiq, Shoaib maqsood, Misbah, Hafiz', Umer Akmal, Afridi, Anwar Ali, Junaid khan and Saeed Ajmal. We should should start with Junaid khan and Hafiz as opening bowlers. Bowling change and field placing should be as per player of opposing team. I missed Shohail Tanveer because he is regular player. We should try Anwar Ali and Bilawal Bhatti. We should prepare our team with help of video analysis of opposing players strength and weakness.

Posted by   on (December 16, 2013, 6:26 GMT)

Lanka will won odi series because Pak players like hafeez umar akmal are not supporting misbah and he want to break the captaincy of Misbah .

Posted by   on (December 16, 2013, 5:14 GMT)

Here's my choice for the Pakistani test XI: Khurram, Shan, Fawad, Younis, Asad, Misbah, Sarfaraz, Abdurrehman, Gul, Ajmal and Junaid. And for the reserves, Sharjeel, Shehzad, Sohaib, Umar Akmal, Raza Hasan, Ehsan Adil, Bhatti and Anwar Ali.

Posted by Sports4Youth on (December 15, 2013, 13:54 GMT)

1.Sharjeel K., 2.A.Shehzad, 3.M.Hafeez, 4.S.Maqsood, 5.Misbah, 6.U.Akmal, 7.S.Afridi, 8.B.Bhatti, 9.Anwar A., 10.S.Ajmal, 11.Junaid K.

This is what I want. But I dont think Misbah will keep Tanvir out. I think Misbah will play Tanvir at the expense of Anwar or Junaid. Very Bad.

Also with 3 regular spinners in the team, I dont understand why the selectors hav selected Abdur Rehman as well. I think A.Rehman will have to stay in the reserves, only in case if Ajmal is not well or injured or something like that.

Posted by bouncer709 on (December 15, 2013, 12:22 GMT)

Asad Shafiq is the future star of Pakistan cricket, give him regular chance or better let him play domestic, so when there be no Misbah and Younis , he will fill the post. Misbah should give Sohaib few overs in ODI this is the only way we can get rid of Hafeez. Sohaib Maqsood can do doosra too, Misbah please think out of box in ODI, test him as a bowler part time bowler.

finaly umer amin out good decesion

Posted by Zahidsaltin on (December 15, 2013, 10:01 GMT)

Anwar Ali and Bhatti are not international standard bowlers and specially when playing on flate tracks of UAE. Pakistan should have selected some experienced hands while Irfan and Gul nurse their injuries. I would have selected Rauf, Cheema or Talha. And Pakistan should not send Hafeez to bat at 3 as his wicket is putting a lot of pressure on the other batsmen who then are made to slow down after his down fall.

Posted by   on (December 15, 2013, 9:03 GMT)

Good luck to Pakistan for the ODI series against Shri Lanka.Pakistan have a good blend of batting and bowling, provided they put their heads down and play no one should throw their wicket away and the bowlers must not bowl any wayward ball but attack the stumps and bowl.Once again I wish them good luck.Inshallah they will win this one day series, all Pakistani's staying in Pakistan and in around the world please pray for them to do well and win the series.

I am, sorry I was a fan of Hafeez until I noticed how selfish he is...I can't believe I wanted him to be Paks next Captain, the way he tossed around Maqsood has definitely scarred him since he is a no 3 not 5 or 6. Misbah will do him justice, I believe this is because this guy is potentially a handy spinner too, endangering hafeez' lousy spot. Anyway, we have dropped Jamshed which can go either way as he is out of form but he's a subcontinental hero who would be ideal vs SL. Harris sohail must be included, groom him to be the next YOUNUS, not Amin but I still believe he has a possibility in tests, he really looked disapp when he got out. Bhatti, dont understand he has such potential but messes up at crucial's my XI.. 1.S Khan, 2.A Shehzad, 3.S Maqsood, 4. M ul haq,5.U Akmal,6.M Hafeez 7.S Afridi,9.B Bhatti/A Ali, 10.S Ajmal, 11.J Khan batting is weak, not for thought boys. I want harris in the 11 but dunno who to replace, hafeez' bowling is still handy

Have to agree with nak3113 1. Discipline, Maturity and Mental Toughness of our players. 2. "Lottery Mentality" of our selectors, management, and our culture Solution Education, Education, and Education

We have players like Umar Akmal who wasn't unlucky being run out in the 1st T20 but terribly stupid. This culture of keeping wickets in hand whilst chasing a big total does work if you have quality batting 8 down to 11. Most top sides expect to get ahead of their opponents run rate when chasing. Again you have to be real quality to underperform at the beginning and bat all the way through to win the match. Pakistan doesn't possess this quality at the moment - my advice would be to send the team on army survival courses forcing players to think for themselves cooly under pressure and eventually become mentally tough to deal with the physical demands of international cricket.

if you have to score 180 runs in 20 overs at 9 runs an over do it as under : (1) 3 overs of 15 runs = 45 (2) 5 overs of 8 runs = 40 (3) 4 overs of 6 runs = 24 (4 ) 3 overs of 4 runs = 12 (5) 4 overs of 10 runs = 40 (6) 1 over of 20 runs = 20 ------------------------------------------ total 181

Posted by   on (December 14, 2013, 19:31 GMT)

Pakistan is lacking experience in fast bowling department. Sohail Tanvir is a total misfit for ODIs. Pakistan will have to rely heavily on other three fast bowlers Junaid, Bilawal and Anwer. Given that Bilawal and Anwer are new to the international arena and also Sri Lankans are very good against spin bowling, I think Pakistan bowling will struggle against Sri Lankans on flat tracks. If Pakistan will make slow tracks then bowling will survive but batsman will have to perform really well. Let's hope Hafeez, Ahmed and Masood come to the party and give some support to Misbah. Umer Akmal should come up the order either at 4 or 5. Hope Afridi repeats his once in blue moon performance atleast twice in the series. Bilawal and Anwer are generally good against fast bowlers. I think Pakistan will have to fight really well to win the series.

Posted by   on (December 14, 2013, 19:18 GMT)

I do not understand why Fawad Alam is ignored totally. He has a very good international record and also plays with responsibility. Atleast for ODIs he should be selected.

Posted by   on (December 14, 2013, 19:10 GMT)

Pakistan are said to be bad chasers; ok , let me give them to chase a 300 runs target 1. score 100 runs in first 20 overs at 5 runs an over for 1 wicket. 2. score next 100 runs in 17 overs (102 balls) for two wickets. 3. Now we have 101 runs in 78 balls with 7 wickets in hand. 4. Out of Kulasekra, Malinga, Angelo Methews, Prerra, and new spinner score 35 against Malinga, remaining can go for plenty. 5. Key is keep wickets in hand, target selective bowlers, Shazad should play pivot role while remaining can work around them. 6. How is the recipie. 7. I can coach Pakistan team

Well the team is not too bad but i don't know why there is no senior fast bowler exept Sohail Tanvir. I think Anwar Ali is a good bowling allrounder and he should play all the 5 odi.

Posted by Lakpj on (December 14, 2013, 15:32 GMT)

Once again Pak batting fortunes will be heavily on the shoulders of Misbah. Can't see any other batsman who has the capacity to bat through 50 overs. Hit out type of batsmen will not always work in ODIs.

The ODI squad should really be a marker to identify the impact players in view to the T20 World Cup. Sharjeel Khan and Haris Sohail are fabulous domestic performers and needs more International experience to get a feel of the next level. Haris should have played T20s as he looks like the best middle-order hitter in Pakistan. Shoaib Maqsood is a good addition and his tempermant has been cool so far. He just needs to keep anchoring the innings and not lose the plot. Bilawal Bhatti and Anwar Ali have made the Pakistani tail wag like old. They just need to tighten up their bowling. This has helped ease pressure on Afridi, and we have seen Boom Boom return to batting form. Tanvir's death bowling and lower order hitting is looking good.

Posted by   on (December 14, 2013, 12:34 GMT)

for me maqsood is tempramently very week he doesn't know when to play a big shoot. my playing 11 sharjeel Ahmed umer akmal Harris sohail misbah hafeez afridi bilawal junnaid sohail tanveer saeed ajmal

Anwar Ali should be groom, he can play role as Razzak

Posted by Crick_Expert on (December 14, 2013, 12:20 GMT)

Asad Safiq is good player but on domestic level, he is not a match winner. Sarjeel Khan and Sohaib Maqsood are good found, please give them chance in all formats. Please don't included Asad Safiq, PAK TEAM will be sink if two Mr. tuktuk(Misbah+Asad Safiq) playing same time..

Posted by Crick_Expert on (December 14, 2013, 12:15 GMT)

SL batting is very strong as they showed in 2nd T20. So, PAK TEAM should concentrate on it, and include more batsmen. PAK ODI team should be as;

1)Sarjeel 2)Ahmed 3)Hafeez 4)Maqsood 5)Haris Sohail 6)Misbah 7)AFRIDI 8)U.Akmal/RAZZAK 8)Ajmal 9)Anwar Ali 10)Junaid 11)Irfan/Tanvir

Sohaib Maqsood is very good entry in Pakistan Squad.

Omer Amin is Far batter than Haris and Assad Shafiq and must continue in ODI Squad.

Message for Usman and Nasir Jamesd keep playing in domestic level. need time to come International Level.

i don't know selector what he want to do with Pakistan Team. Please think carefully before selecting.

Posted by   on (December 14, 2013, 4:20 GMT)

Oh great every one weeks gets dropped but asad shagif with less than total 20 runs in 5 odi is a permanent member if the odi squad. Are you serious? The guy canNOT play limited over cricket period !!! How many times do you have oto try him. He has already played almost 50 odi and that is s joke .

Posted by roook on (December 13, 2013, 22:01 GMT)

Misbah please give asad shafiq a proper series or drop him please don't waste him like.

Why asad shaf!!!!! Already we have 1 tuk tuk y another.........

Posted by   on (December 13, 2013, 16:33 GMT)

truly speaking i didn't find any quality bowling in usman,,,, we have better options

Posted by   on (December 13, 2013, 13:54 GMT)

Why is Hafeez so insecure as to give Usman Khan Shinwari just one over in his debut. Hafeez certainly feels that he will be eclipsed by Usman and other new-comers to the team.

But Hafeez is not only short-sighted but also has less than below average performance with the bat. He should be dropped in favor of another all-rounder like Hammad Azam.

Hafeez's sickness is good news for Pakistani cricketers. After getting rid of Malik and Razzak, it is time to get rid of Hafeez.

Posted by ihaq1 on (December 13, 2013, 11:42 GMT)

i think asad hafeez is a weak selection and pakistan should select a good young batsman for that position in teh middle order...jamshed being dropped is bowing looks a bit weaker without irfan despite his physical problems...Bilawal bhatti's speed has dropped after yeh first match and junaid has only really played just one good match usman just one over is really not a good decision...four overs would have made him realize how he should bowl and improve at teh international level

Posted by   on (December 13, 2013, 10:54 GMT)

Plz select sadaf hussain he has again taken 8 wickets in one inning recently.

Posted by   on (December 13, 2013, 10:39 GMT)

Guys, 1 thing we need to know that Usman was picked in t20s. He was not dropped from odi squad technically. We can say that when paksitan selects team for next t20 match/series. A selection in t20 doesnt mean that he will be in ODi squad as well. I dont think bowling only 1 over was the reason for omission from odi squad. Though i agree with every 1 that if he is playing then he is playing as bowler and you need to give him proper chances. He should have bowled more overs when every 1 was going for runs. He will play today as its in media. and i hope this time they give him more games.

Posted by   on (December 13, 2013, 10:28 GMT)

Dissapointed to see Shafique and sohail Tanvir in the Team, in place of Tanvir Sadaf Hossain should have been a chance and Usman also deserves more and more chances, good to see that umar amin is out and hafeez should have given him more chance to bowl in the 1st T20,

Posted by Pak-to-win on (December 13, 2013, 10:13 GMT)

Sadaf Hussain has to be picked for the Test matches against Sri Lanka.

He has 200 First Class wickets in just his 40th match.

He is also a wonderful List-A bowler.

Any comments??

Posted by   on (December 13, 2013, 9:46 GMT)

Not selecting USMAN KHAN is a very bad decision. He was not even given a good amount of overs by hafeez in the 1st T20. can a bowler be judged by giving just an over to perform? Is it a six a side game featuring 5 overs? he should have given atleast another over and should have let him to bowl against two lefthanders when they (sanga and kusal) were on the crease at they sametime.

Posted by xylofon on (December 13, 2013, 9:01 GMT)

Jamsheds exclusion from ODI is criminal, will prove costly in the end.

Fawad Alam niri pori ziytai. His exlusion doesnt make any sense. They let him play T20 but in the national team it should be Test & ODI.

H Sohail selection is wonderful.

Tanvir and Wahab are not good enough for Pak, Tanvir is better of the two but Pakistans resources are too good for Tanvir to be considered. Ehsan Adil is the man, together with Junaid Khan and Umar Gul (until Amir comes back) we have the best pace lineup in the world. Irfans phsyique is a joke, no stamina. Raza Hasan should be groomed for the big events, Zulfiqar B is too old and Rehman is good for tests and too old as well.

Adil/Khan/Gul/Amir/Ajmal/Hasan - nothing like it in any team.

Babar Azam/Sami Aslam/Jamshed/Akmal/H Sohail - droooool. ; )

Above is my dream team for ODI.

In the squad is F Alam, Irfan maybe and Hafeez has to make playing 11 for captaincy. Bhatti and Anwar, same problem as Wahab and Tanvir.

The way they tested Shinwari is like a trial session which is his insult as well. Sorry PCB, Hafeez and Nisbah I lost my respect for you. If Afridi is also out then they are unable to win even a single match

Posted by abidurrehman on (December 13, 2013, 7:57 GMT)

The most disgusting and irrelevent Selection by PCB and Misbah. We all know that Shinwari is far better than the current bowlers, The only thing he needs is Confidence boost up. Hafeez and PCB is loosing the new talent as they missed Imran Tahir and Fawad. PCB uses approaches which is neither good for Pakistan nor Int'l cricket.

Usman Khan Shinwari deserved a chance in ODI's he is better than Sohail Tanvir... No doubt Tanir is good in T20... but for ODI Usman Khan should given a chance for whole series

Poor decision by selection committee .... Usman Khan Shinwari deserved a chance in ODI's..... Its hafeez who played with his talent... he should be in for ODI... Poor guy dont have any safrish (doesnt even get a chance in whole series) ....

Posted by Ray24 on (December 13, 2013, 6:31 GMT)

@Umair Malik - why is Umar Amin better than Shafiq? Umar has one 50 in 14 games, Shafiq has 8 in 46. Please do the math. Umar is just an average player, while Shafiq stands out as Pakistan's premier batsman in tests. If only he was given proper chances, without shuffling his batting order, Shafiq will prove to be an even better player.

Usman Khan Shinwari deserved a chance in ODI's. Another youngester had to face the miscommunication between selectors and captain. Hafeez denied to know about Shinwari's inclusion as it was Misbah's suggestion. So, he gave him one over to held his nose up.

Posted by   on (December 13, 2013, 5:41 GMT)

why usman khan shinwari given only 1 over ? nd why did'nt he bowled the first over in the match? plz do nt play with careers of youngsters.

Posted by OverDcovers on (December 13, 2013, 5:41 GMT)

My disappointment continues not to see Younis Khan in the ODI squad! Hafeez has been thrust on the National Exchequer at the expense of Younis Khan. I want to ask Mr. Sethi his plans for the world cup in Australia? Does he feel that this team which is found wanting on placid pitches of UAE would be able to PLAY the full 50 overs on Australia's bouncing tracks? Would Ordinary and technically flawed players like Hafeez be able to justify the #3 slot? If performance alone is the criteria then Hafeez should have been dropped few months ago, but as wel all know that he is politically planted in the team so he continues to play without performing with the bat which is supposed to be his forte! For those who value his bowling I have just one answer to that and that is to make him bat at #10 and use him as a bowler and see for yourselves SOON what even his bowling is all about!

Posted by   on (December 13, 2013, 5:17 GMT)

Where is usman khan??? PCB is playing with his tallent. Atfirst called him rushly in the morning of the match & hafeez gave him only ! over to proov, then again he was omitted from the ODI squad. PCB is wasting is Talent & Confidence.

Haris has been part of the team for many tours but barely he got chance in final eleven. I am certain with the average that this lad is showing in FC and list A, he will succed. @ roook saying about consistent performances....yes, thats the most important thing. To do that you have to select the best consistent performers in FC cricket. But how it is possible when your selectors keep players like Fawad Alam, Haris sohail out of the team and below average batsmen like Hafeez, Malik and Shafiq (all of them have poor avg in FC cricket) get consistent run in the team? I am a BANGLADESHI and a die hard fan of Fawad Alam you know. You guys are wasting his talent. And i also think, Sami Aslam should be introduced in the team very soon.

Posted by wapuser on (December 12, 2013, 21:55 GMT)

Can someone explain what hafeez is doing in the team. His odi record is shocking. His technique has been exposed time and time again especially by steyn. I wonder why razzaq keeps getting ignored. One word. Politics.

Posted by greenluv on (December 12, 2013, 21:36 GMT)

good luck Pakistan as it wont be easy to win against Sri Lanka They always put up a fight and they have a true love for this Game Cricket. However they should use only one either Anwar or Bahhti for the game and play with one extra full time batsman our spin with hafeez and afridi are plus especially when you have Ajmal in 11. There is not a need of 4 bowlers. Junaid and Tanvir are good enough to handle it.

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 21:36 GMT)

In my thinking the team Playing 11 should be Mohammad Hafeez, Ahmed Shehzad, Sohaib Maqsood, Misbah-ul-Haq (capt), Umar Akmal, Haris Sohail, Shahid Afridi, Bilawal Bhatti, Sohail Tanvir, Saeed Ajmal, Junaid Khan.

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 21:28 GMT)

umar amin is still a better player than shafiq in odi,s

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 20:52 GMT)

Finally Pakistan selectors got some sense to drop umer amin from ODI squad. Asad Shafiq by any means is not capable batsman for ODI and he has shown it many times with his failures i think as a batsmen if you are not able to hit a six you don't deserve to play in ODI or T20 and shafiq can,t totally!! No need of Abdur Rehman why he is selected all the time he has no place in the final 11 instea of a him a youngster like Raza Hasan should be given a chance. Pakistan has better bowlers than shoail Tanvir as he by any means is not an All-Rounder.

At last the right team for now,,glad to see they finally dropped U.Amin,,he was waste of space, I think, the world cup team will have Irfan and Gul, I still believe Jamshed if he has some guts, should work on his game and especially on his fitness and fielding and should be able to come back, he does belong to big stage but seems very lazy. Good luck to both teams,,will be a good contest but PAK has got an edge.

Most teams are in transition Phase like srilanka,Australia and South Africa. But our main problem for past five years are our youngster perform well in their first 20-30 ODI and then struggles. The main problem reason as they play more matches their techniques is exposed. Yasir hameed, Nasir Jamshad are fastest to 1000 runs for Pakistan unless there is no effort in improving and ploshing there skills more will come and go and there will be no legend like inzamam, saeed anwar.

Posted by zzby on (December 12, 2013, 20:13 GMT)

Yasir Ali and Muhammad Talha are better bowlers currently available in Pakistan......

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 20:09 GMT)

It is totally amazing that batsmen are criticized but bowling is less criticized as Bowling coach available but without afridi and hafeez no one is even no experience of gripping the ball in past Great waqar younas , imran khan , Muhammad asif , srfraz nawaz even i spinners like Abdulqadir , saqlain mushtaq a suggested Mr coach Akram Raza kinldy check any of the mention bowlers delivery shape at the time of deliverence and none of the fast bowlers troubling the batsmen by slow deliveries , yorkers and full length at forth stemps as did the africans against indian masters batsmen so Request to Sir intikhab alam , moin khan , all selectors and misbah and hafeez to select Waqar younas as a bowling or head coach who will tell how bowling will steady batesmen at forth stemp as Afghanistan bowlers did against pakistan.

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 19:49 GMT)

Selectors should considered young talent samI aslam and Imam-ul haq Raza Hassan and Usman Qadir how ever Ahmad Shehzad , Umer Akmal ,Sohaib Maqsood , Sharjeel Khan are our our future I appreciate the concerns and addition of Bilawal bhatti is an edg

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 19:29 GMT)

nice team selected but abdul razzaq is match winer!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 19:18 GMT)

Why is Asad Shafiq again? He is a total failure as far as limited overs cricket is concerned.

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 19:07 GMT)

malik deserve a chance in odi and t20 squad. why slection committee ignoring his performance. he is good plaer than asad, haris, hafeez, nasir and amin. Malik is a good team leader, he should in team.

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 19:06 GMT)

Guys, Sharjeel Khan is not a T20-specialist like many suggest, instead he is a proper One-day batsman, who knows the balance between aggression and sensible batting. I am sure you have seen how he approaches his innings to play a long one. Finally someone who is interested in taking singles, unlike our other opening batsman who play a bail out shot to get out of a drought. His selection was based on that 190+ game in a 50-over match not a T20 performance.

A couple of weeks ago misbah was was the only headache fo criket lovers and today out of 50 coments i cannt see any criticism about misbah All senior citizens should go now time for new guns Todays one day game is different old fashioned cricketers find it difficult except some who wr stroke makers always For me team for future should be 1Sharjeel 2shehzad 3sami/haris 4sohaibas/usman salahudin 5omar 6mohmad riwan wk 7hammad azam 8bhatti/anwar 9 amir 10 raza 11 junaid

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 18:18 GMT)

we must open with hafeez, he coming at no 3 kills an alrounder spot and i dont think it will help us any way going forward, he is our top batsman and leading from front is how it should be, he to open with ahmad shehzad with maxi at no 3 makes a great top order then misbah umar and harris makes a good middle order anwar bhatti and afridi makes it awesome late middle order, ajmal and one seamer, junaid or tanvir will be good per match, i am confident playing bhatti and anwar will be great investment for both t20 and wc in next 15 months Pakistan is lucky to have found these two amazing talented seaming alrounders in balawal bhatti and anwar ali the double As and double Bs

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 18:13 GMT)

Asad Shafiq selected again ??? people are complaining about hm being in and out , do you guys realize that he has played almost 50 ODI and his average is 26 and strike rate in 60s. He bats at a number where Pakistan should bat someone who has the ability to hit quick runs when required . This is ridiculous !!!! What is a failure other than scoring 1,1,11,10,0 --- These are ot binary numbers these are his last 5 performances

Posted by Peter-Charsi on (December 12, 2013, 18:10 GMT)

I believe Mohd Talha deserved to be in the squad instead of Tanvir. In addition, selectors need to stick with Nasir Jamshed as his talent level is there, but he just needs to be groomed more into a mature batsman. Perhaps, play him in the middle order instead of Umar Amin/Haris Sohail.

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 18:08 GMT)

how can a new bowler can prove himself within 6 balls, then why giving a chance to a new bowler like Usman khan just told him how can he do it

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 18:07 GMT)

Sharjeel Khan is a T20 specialist whereas Sami Aslam is an ODI specialist! Sami Aslam should have been selected instead!

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 18:03 GMT)

They should have selected the opener Sami Aslam in the ODI Squad!

Posted by shchoudhary on (December 12, 2013, 18:03 GMT)

@fahad malik...mate...i think that u r not a "mr. current affairs".. salman but is banned n jamshed is in aweful form...we pakistanis...we just cnt stop criticizing...its a shame

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 17:50 GMT)

Fine selection, but i seriously hope we kick Hafeez out as soon as possible, this guys is so insecure of others taking his place, and he only comes out to play when he is the captain. VERY SELFISH. He should only play in T2O's, and if we need him in ODI's at the worst case scenario play him at number 6 not one down for heavens sake. Give the number 3 and 4 position to Shoaib Maqsood and Umar Akmal respectively followed by Harris Sohail. Other than that our squad is really coming through when Irfan comes back. Just need to be consistent with the playing eleven now leading up to the WT20 and WC.

Posted by mzm149 on (December 12, 2013, 17:50 GMT)

1. Shehzad 2. Hafeez 3. Maqsood 4. Harris 5. Misbah 6. Akmal 7. Afridi 8. Bhatti 9. Tanvir 10. Ajmal 11. Junaid

will be playing XI in ODIs.

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 17:46 GMT)

shoaib malik also place in this odi team but shame selection of pcb

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 17:43 GMT)

Why is Raza Hassan and Fawwad Alam being constantly ignored???

About time to treat Asad Shafiq properly, with this in and out game for this fine batsman to accomodate Umar Amin must stop now.

A great ODI and test series in prospect.

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 17:38 GMT)

How can PCB selectors justified picking one of the most useless bowler Sohail Tanweer in the ODI squad as this guy and Whaib Raiz cost Pakistan so many series. He leaks so many runs in every over and his batting & fielding is even worse!

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 17:32 GMT)

drop sohail tanveer and get raza hassan back =/

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 17:30 GMT)

I think hafeez shouldn't be in Odi squad, he is not a opener, as a middle order he is not good enough, players like umar akmal or haris sohail deserve his place at 3 !

Then i think they should take sharjeel khan only in t20, sami aslam has incredible records, and look good prospect for ODI and Test.

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 17:28 GMT)

Sohail tanvir needs to b replaced by a genuine fast bowler whch are there in the domestic circuit like talha, sadaf etc...u can hav him in t20 as a cover for main bowlers but plz on flat and slow tracks of u.a.e giv us a break... He is a fourth spinner who bowls a quickr one occassionally...

Posted by hamza1982 on (December 12, 2013, 17:24 GMT)

This is the best squad I have seen pak select for years. The only one I disagree with is Tanvir, who is awful. But once Irfan and Gul are back, bye bye Tanvir. I would pick the following team: Sharjeel, Shaz, Umar wk, Harris, Misbah, Maqsood, Hafeez, Afridi, Bhatti, Ajmal, Junaid.

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 17:23 GMT)

I wound ring why asad shfique in squad because last 2 series against south Africa has not perform I like to see in umer Amin compare to asad best off luck Pakistan team ,,

Posted by hakoonj on (December 12, 2013, 17:22 GMT)

Have to say I have been VERY IMPRESSED with the team selections recently, people who DESERVE to be in the team are making their way into the team (Sharjeel Khan, Sohaib Maqsood, Harris Sohail, Bhatti and Anwar Ali) and non-performing and ordinary players are being kicked out (Wahab riaz, jamshed, and Umar Amin THANK GOD), there's still a long way to go, sohail tanvir is absolutley USELESS in ODI's and Abdur Rehman? Seriously? Like someone pointed below Raza Hasan would be a 100X better choice than Rehman. Asad Shafiq should not play ODI's as he has a very poor record, he's an excellent Test batsman and should just play that format

Posted by fayyaz03 on (December 12, 2013, 17:22 GMT)

After the selection of Haris Sohail and Sharjeel Khan and keeping Sohaib Maqsood in the playing eleven, I can really say that the team is building for WC2015. I have seen these three playing domestic matches. They are highly talented. Some experiences of International matches out of Pakistan and they will become strong. With this squad, there are some question marks regarding fast bowling department but again there is a hope! Gul and Irfan are recovering from Injuries and Mohd Aamir will come back soon. The future seems bright. Pakistan only want some one who can anchor the innings in the middle order and replace Misbah ul Haq. The great man has very less career left now.

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 17:19 GMT)

team should be 1 hafeez 2 shazad 3 maqsood 4 misbah 5 haris 6 u akmal 7 afridi 8 bilawal 9 anwar ali 10 ajmal 11 j khan

Posted by t20cric on (December 12, 2013, 17:13 GMT)

Once again the selection is pretty good except for some mistakes. Its been established now that Asad Shafiq is too slow therefore not an ODI player. Instead of him Fawad Alam would have been way better. Pakistan also should have picked a younger spinner(Raza Hassan) instead of Abdur Rehman who probably wont even get play & even if he does he is only a good test bowler not ODI. Lastly Sohail Tanvir is not needed, they can either add Hammad Azam so that they have a real all rounder or some specialist fast bowler.

My XI: 1.Sharjeel Khan, 2.Ahmed Shehzad, 3.Sohaib Maqsood, 4.Umar Akmal/Haris Sohail, 5.Misbah-ul-haq, 6.Umar Akmal/Haris Sohail, 7.Shahid Afridi/Mohammad Hafeez, 8.Bilawal Bhatti/Anwar Ali, 9.Sohail Tanvir, 10.Saeed Ajmal, 11.Junaid Khan

Haris Sohail can play at no.4 or 6 so long as he does play the whole series. Afridi is a better bowler then Hafeez & Misbah doesnt make Hafeez bowl much anyways so its better to only keep Afridi but Hafeez is still good against left-handers.

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 17:04 GMT)

noo its good selection by the pcb they should indect nasir jamshed and and salman butt

Posted by papay65 on (December 12, 2013, 17:02 GMT)

@Aziz Shariff- I echo your sentiments, a wonderful and YOUNG prospect being ignored while Abdur Rehman (nothing against him) keeps getting picked for squads and never plays. Scandalous

Posted by mzm149 on (December 12, 2013, 17:02 GMT)

Selecting Asad Shafiq again is just atrocious. I hope Harris Sohail gets a chance instead of him. Not selecting Zulfiqar Babar is simply mind boggling.

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 17:01 GMT)

Good news ...and selection wanted to see Fawad Alam in place of Asad Shafique and Barar/Raza Hasan in place of Abdur Rehman..and the rest Iis fine . Haffez is total waste so should be either kicked out or should be batting at no 6 so Shown Maksood or Harris sohel should be given enough chance at no 3...

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 17:00 GMT)

A very good selection!! Sharjeel Khan! Finally I can see merit being prevailed!

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 17:00 GMT)

What is the criteria of selecting sohail tanvir again and again? Raza Hassan should be given chance instead of Rehman..

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 16:59 GMT)

When you pick a player, you should persist with them for the entire T20 or ODI series. It gives the player some confidence and sense of security to prove himself. Usman should have been given another match or the ODI to play. One over can not justify a sighting of a talent. Remember, even Mohammad Amir struggled when he started in his first match. Anyway, it's great to see so many fast/swing bowlers coming up for Pakistan. Great stuff.

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 16:54 GMT)

giving chances to too many youngsters and then eliminate them after one or two chances this is not good news for pak cricket.I dont understand y s,tanvir still in the squad

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 16:42 GMT)

Can someone from the media kindly tell us fans overseas what has happened to the wonderful young upcoming left-arm spinner RAZA HASSAN, who single handedly shut down the KILLER AUSSIE line-up in the last T20 worldcup??? Why is he not being considered for selection. As far as my research and knowledge is concerned, he has overcome his so called "INJURY". As a matter of fact he has been playing domestic cricket for quite some time now.

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 16:42 GMT)

why the hell sohail tanvir in odi squad pathetic odi bowler concedes more than 55 runs and take 1 wicket at his best

Posted by Cric_fever_forever on (December 12, 2013, 16:37 GMT)

again didnt liked the lower order should hav placed a replacement for gul and irfan. cant bank on tanvir and anwer ali with the bowl. thats the truth.

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 16:30 GMT)

I'm all for giving players chances but it's important for Pakistan to have some continuation/stability within the side. There seems to be too much chopping and changing in recent times. Pick your best 11 and play them as much as possible. You can have reserve players as well but start picking your team for the up-coming T20 and ODI cup. All the best.

Posted by sniper44 on (December 12, 2013, 16:29 GMT)

You induct some one in the squad and then leave him out is injustice and not acceptable I am talking of Usman Khan.He was specially selected bowled only one over then left out of the team This is not fair and beyond logic can anyone in the helm of affairs kindly explain this

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 16:20 GMT)

excellent decision by selectors.. but umar gul should also be in. and tanvir out. plz give sharjeel ans haris full series

Posted by shahnbej on (December 12, 2013, 16:16 GMT)

Hafiz block Usman career for a while, as he did with others like Abdul Razaq , this is mistake of PCB to make a low level captain, who try hard to protect his position in team.

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 16:08 GMT)

a good selection giving chance to youngsters but I feel they're a bowler short or could replace A. Rehman with a seamer... Bhatti and Ali are all rounders even Tanveer so Junaid being the only genuine fast bowler!!

Posted by Sachit1979 on (December 12, 2013, 16:07 GMT)

Umar Amin should have been given one more chance. He got good start during last ODI against SA in SA, the only chance that he got to play. Few opportunities to bat in top order would have reinstated confidence in him to play long innings. Moreover I don't think Abdur Rehman was really required when Ajmal, Afridi and Hafeez are already to spin the ball.

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 16:03 GMT)

very good selection hopefully haris sohail gets the fair chance to prove himself coz h is the best batsman in domestic for sometime and he average above 50 in all formats so means he has what it take to be a good player hopefully he ll shine

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 15:52 GMT)

y always Sohail Tanveer, and what happened to that breaking news "Usman Khan Shinwari" .... overall team looks balanced, and good to see Asad SHafique retained.

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 15:50 GMT)

I think asad shafiq should be replace by Shaoib Malik and Sohail Tenveer by Umer Gul but as Umer gul is not fit then it's ok to give Tanveer another series to not perform. Tanveer is just safarshia.

A young team and i hope they will give great fight to Sri Lanka.

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 15:47 GMT)

Good selection

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 15:35 GMT)

Good squad. Happy to see Amin free team. He has been given a lot of chances and every time he fails to deliver. Haris Sohail richly deserves the place in playing eleven also. Sharjeel is a good inclusion as well, this lad looks so confident. But I really feel instead of Shafiq it should have been Hammad Azam. Asad should be kept for tests only. I can't say much about Hafeez but atleast Misbah has to play him down the order, maybe at no. 6.

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 15:28 GMT)

Good Team selection though sohail Tanveer is not good choice... anyway not bad

Posted by Andy_Gridley2012 on (December 12, 2013, 15:27 GMT)

As an Aussie, I've always enjoyed the pakistani and sri lankan side ay. always produced exciting and passionate players. will be watching the ashes along with this series. good luck mate. play hard. btw, hope sanga keeps playing beyond 2015. man is a legend.

Posted by absartabish on (December 12, 2013, 15:26 GMT)

This squad looks ballanced but where is Anwar Ali (perfomance wasted boy) , Zulfiqar Babar (Dont bowl well next time) . Stop using part time wicket keeper , if this is the case than stop academies to produce wicket keepers . Please allow experts to do their job.

Posted by Tornado1 on (December 12, 2013, 15:17 GMT)

Can somebody please drop Hafeez and Tanveer as well? Include Shan Masood / Khurram Manzoor and may be Rahat Ali instead and if you want to replace a useless player with another useless player, then i guess replace Hafeez with Shoaib Malik, He may bat once in 4 innings. Hafeez is a total waste

Posted by zah1231 on (December 12, 2013, 15:13 GMT)

Its mind-boggling to see Sohail Tanvir in the team. He is one of the worst bowlers Pakistan has ever produced. He should be dropped from all formats and should never be picked again.Hafeez should bat at 6 or 7 and should be selected as a bowling all-rounder.

Posted by Haz95 on (December 12, 2013, 15:09 GMT)

Amazing squad, PCB is finally stepping their game up. Sohail tanvir, meh tho...Hopefully its Anwar who's in his place. Its good they have left out Mr Amin who seems to be a failure but he may be useful in tests(even tho haris sohail destroys him in that unit too). I would've like to see Azhar Ali tho. The playing XI could be Paks best in long, providing they use the right combo. I fear they'll use Shafiq ahead of Haris but here is my XI 1.S Khan, 2.A Shehzad, 3. S Maqsood, 4. U Akmal/H Sohail, 5. M Ul Haq, 6. U Akmal/H sohail, 7. M Hafeez, 8.B bhatti, 9, S Afridi, 10, J Khan, 11, S Ajmal. I fear pak will decide to take the bowler route and possibly kick out Sohail for tanvir. But Bhatti and Junaid should do fine since these are spinning wickets. S Maqsood, along with our lethal trio should be enough spin. I dunno whether to put sohail @ 4 or Umar. Please pak use this team. Remember, our batting is weak, not BOWLING, we have 5 sound bowlers with 1 part timer.

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 15:09 GMT)

Where is Shaoib Malik ? if Selection committe delebrate ignoring him inpite of good perofrmance in domestic and in Cpl league, AND failed cricketer getting chance again and again , shame on seletion Very disappointment

Posted by AHKhan121 on (December 12, 2013, 15:05 GMT)

Mashallah. If PCB r not gonna be consistent with players how r they supposed to stay in the squad. Umar Amin got a game against south africa once they realised he should be playing and he played some good shots, they have been wasting their time with Jamshed. Hafeez and Shezad should be opening, with umar amin one down. Then onto Asad Shafiq, he is a test player, not one day, when was the last time he scored in double figures in odis? He just a guy they take around for experience but wont get a game unless pakistan have secured a series win. Now my main question, when the hell is UMAR GUL COMING BACK? PCB do u remember him? the guy who got the first ever t20 fiver, ring any bells. Y r u continuously going to sohail tanvir, he bowls crap lengths and gets smacked endlessly. Umar Gul is a tank and a half and should be playing end of

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 14:58 GMT)

Thanks heavens Umar Amin is gone, those who say he's not a T20 player but an ODI/Test player, to them I say, NO he's just a domestic player if that. He's been given far too many chances and he hasn't justified that at all. Good riddance, i say!

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 14:49 GMT)

Umar gul was playing in domestic events till last week. But yesterday there is a news that he has failed the fitness test.

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 14:39 GMT)

Instead of asad shafiq and anwar ali, it should have been the new boy usman khan and umar amin. The rest of selection good. Nice to see new faces coming in and gaining experience from the older players... That is in bowling. I cant say about batting haha

Posted by ICCexpert.... on (December 12, 2013, 14:36 GMT)

Good team. Finally Umar Amin is dropped. M. Talha deserves a chance, he is in excellent form and Pakistan need a right arm express bowler like him who bowls at 150 kmph consistantly.

where is umar amin he is not t20 player he is ODI or TEST player plz try him

Posted by laho111 on (December 12, 2013, 14:30 GMT)

Thanks God Umer ameen has been dropped. Nice to see Sherjeel in squad but disappointing that fawad alam and Sarfaraz not included despite their good and consistent domestic performances. Talha should be there instead of Sohail Tanveer.

Posted by Stark62 on (December 12, 2013, 14:29 GMT)

Excellent decision to include both Sharjeel and Haris but I'm miffed at the selection of Hafeez (not good enough for ODI's and Tests), Shafiq, Tanvir (should play T20's only) and you could potentially add Rehamn because he is DEFINITELY not going to play ahead of Ajmal, plus SL batsmen are adept at playing spin and therefore, Hammad or Ehsan should have been called up instead.

Also, I'm glad the worst batsman to play 250+ ODI games, Younis "The Flop" Khan hasn't been included because it was being touted by a few personnel's.

Lastly, I hope Misbah has the courage to demote Hafeez to no. 6 or drop him from the team!!

Posted by AbdulRauf-99 on (December 12, 2013, 14:17 GMT)

finally a really good selection from PCB, although i would've preferred Umer Gul instead of Sohail Tanvir, Any news what happened to him? he said he'll be back for SA series...

What a HAPPY NEWS that my nephew Haris Sohail is coming back to the Pakistan side. Hopefully this time around he will get a proper chance to show his potential as a relyable middelorder batsman who can score a lot of runs for Pakistan. Do give the young guys coming into the team a fair amount of run of matches to show and develope their abilities at the highest level - international cricket!!

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 14:12 GMT)

Why still no Umar Gul or Younis Khan in ODIs?

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 14:12 GMT)

Very unfortunate that still Younus Khan most experienced player is not in this squad , I believe that like Umar Amin some of this youngsters will also be dropped in next series due to non performance.

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 14:10 GMT)

Good team selection .. Nasir Jamshed has got talent but he needs to play domestic and regain his form. If they had picked Umar Gul instead of Tanveer it would have been perfect. Overall good signs for Pakistan, now they got mix of youth and experince and will surely perform well InshaALLAH :)

Posted by DanishNaseer on (December 12, 2013, 14:07 GMT)

Thanks God ...... Umer Amin is dropped. He has been given more than enough chances future capt :)

Posted by   on (December 12, 2013, 14:07 GMT)

As expected not much difference from t20 squad. sharjeel got selected in t20 and was suppose to replace nasir in odis as well.

Finally umair amin dropped from squad. but asad shafiq shouldnt have been picked. Sohail tanveer some how made it in squad once again. may be because of irfan's injury. very much same squad as t20. Haris should be given chance in playing 11.

1- Ahmed 2- sharjeel 3-Hafeez 4-Maqsood 5-Misbah 6- Akmal 7-Haris 8-Afridi 9- Bhatti 10-ajmal 11- Junaid

but they will go with extra bowler so Anwar/Tanvir will be in for Haris. No place for Asad in playing 11.
