Pakistan v Sri Lanka ODI Series - 2nd ODI

Pakistan v Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka won by 2 wickets (with 2 balls remaining)

Ok it's all set finally. Sharjeel to take strike against Kula

3.27 pm We are all set to go. The misbehaving sight-screen has been sorted now and everyone is ready too. Ahmed Shehzad is in with Sharjeel. Kula has the ball. Well there is still something bothering the batsman and it's causing another delay. It's on one side of the screen where a strip of cloth is fluttering with the breeze.

3.17 pm Mazher Arshad says this is going to take another 10 minutes or so..

Shajee: "@Uwaisul Karnain, Misbah will definitely get a chance to bat today because Hafeez is not a kind of player who can score ton on every match. His tons comes once in a blue moon." ----- once in a blue moon = 1.16699016 × 10^-8 hertz, says google. Has anyone got any ideas why this is so?

Khurram: "The term blue moon is currently used commonly to describe a second full moon in a single solar calendar month, which happens every two to three years. And Hafeez 7 centuries in 11 years equals that record" ----- Sounds believable to me. Thanks

Ahmar_Jami has trick that might help the Sri Lankans: "Are these International Players allowed to change their name mid way through to a series? If yes, please ask Sril Lankan management to change any bowler name to Dale Steyn and see what happens with Hafeez the Centurion ..:)"

Ghulam Muqtada: "@khurram Next full moon is expected to appear in 2015 according to google :)" ----- That would be around the next World Cup then?

Mazher Arshad tells me there is a "10 Minutes delay here at Dubai due to sight screen adjustments. The 1st innings will start at 3.10 pm."

Ozair seems like he knows what he is talking about: "Sri Lanka got it very wrong in term of weather. There won't be any dew later tonight because Shamal winds that have started blowing in UAE today won't cause any."

Five minutes away from the start, here is Uwaisul Karnain with the second Misbah mention: "SL's first objective in this game must be to make sure Misbah bats to day."

CricketSL: "Except for Malinga, Sri Lanka has a team of batsmen who can bat" ---- CricketSL, I don't know any team which has batsmen who cannot bat, but I get what you mean..

Akhila Dahanayake: "I think Sri Lanka should realize their batting depth. They have young guns who can fire. They should be concentrating on accumulating the crease from one end and attacking from the other. Pinch hitters may come handy if they are willing to trust the young, lower order talent."

Dave Edmond: "There was a time when you won the toss in a Daynighter and always went for bat first.Indian flat tracks and dew changed that custom it seems"

2.30 pm Sri Lanka have won the toss this time and they will bowl first. There are two changes in Sri Lanka's squad - Kulasekara comes in to replace Suranga Lakmal and Dimuth Karunaratne replaces Thirimanne, who is out due to injury. Apparently Thirimanne injured himself during the warm-ups and was not an intended change. Pakistan are going in with the same XI that won the first match.

Saj: "I have always thought that the whole point of warming up was to prevent injuries during the match & then Thirimanne injures himself during the warm up.. Maybe I was wrong..."

It's another decent batting pitch and Russell Arnold says the teams have to look to score at least 250. But dew will also be a factor later.

Kiri: "SL's top order look to be in good form. They're doing well without Mahela and Herath so I hope they produce this kind of form for the rest of the series."

Naveed: "Sri Lanka winning the toss and choosing to bowl made Misbah's job easier cause whatever decision he would have made would eventually have been criticized for one reason or another !" ------ I agree Naveed. One day I would love to read Misbah's autobiography.. 'Being Misbah'... to know how the criticism affected him.

Furqan Azam: "So Misbah got the snappiest of the titles for his auto-biography. 'Being Misbah'. Great job Cricinfo! you made Misbah's job easier." ----- well, Misbah would have been criticised for choosing the title himself, isn't it?

Rifard: "Million Dollar question is- will pakistan lose their trend of losing big after winning big, and Sri Lanka vise versa..???" ---- Rifard, last match was a tight affair and I wouldn't call it a big win. That should save you from worrying about the 'big win followed by big loss' pattern.

2.15 pm This is the season of 24-hour cricket. We had West Indies and New Zealand slugging it out in Hamilton followed by India v South Africa at the Wanderers, all four teams testing each other out in whites.. But in Dubai, it's time for some action in coloured clothing. Hello and welcome to ESPNcricinfo's coverage of the second ODI between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Dubai. We are still fifteen minutes away from the toss, so just enough time to catch up on Andrew Fernando's match preview.

1.3

Malinga to Sharjeel Khan, no run, there is an appeal for lbw as the batsman misses his flick, but the replays show that there was a huge inside edge on that.

1.4

Malinga to Sharjeel Khan, OUT, cramps him for room with an angled delivery, but the bowler appeals and he gets the decision in his favour. Sharjeel has gone to review that. The appeal sounded a bit strange to the naked eye as it seemed he had hit it with the bat, but the replays show that it has flicked the front pad before the bat. The batsman was stuck in the crease. The ball hit the pad in line with stumps, but there is a question about height. It is hitting the top of middle and Pakistan have lost their review. Good tight decision by the umpire though. Sharjeel falls early after an impressive innings in the last game.

Sharjeel Khan lbw b Malinga 7 (11m 6b 1x4 0x6) SR: 116.66

Arif Shah: "Always annoys me and I wonder why batsmen's strike rate is measured per 100 balls where bowler's economy rate, team run rates are all measures as runs per over. Would definitely make more sense to see Hafeez and Shehzad are batting at 3.5 runs per over rather than strike rate of 55.0"

End of over 15 (3 runs) Pakistan 59/1 (RR: 3.93)
Ahmed Shehzad    27* (46b 1x4)      AD Mathews    3-0-12-0

Hamza: "@Basharat Javed: They also struggle against left arm spinners and outswing bowlers. Seems like they struggle against anything that goes away from the bat."

End of over 16 (2 runs) Pakistan 61/1 (RR: 3.81)
Mohammad Hafeez    21* (40b 2x4)      S Prasanna    3-0-6-0

Mathews to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 run, he works the back of length delivery to the leg side and there is some more confusion in the running between the wickets as Hafeez is sent back

16.2

Mathews to Ahmed Shehzad, no run, what a stupendous catch is that! Perera has pulled off a blinder and the umpires want to check that one. Here is what happened - Shehzad shuffled across the crease and wanted to ramp it over the short fine leg fielder, but it came a little slow and all the batsman could do was lap it up towards the left of that fielder. Perera was a little slow to spot that, but he came forward and dived to his left to pull it just above the turf with his extended left hand. They are checking the reviews and you know how it looks when they check the reviews..They are zooming it in and checking to see if the fielder got his finders underneath the ball in time.. But the more you check the replays, the more doubt appears..And they turn it down.. Shehzad survives

Mathews to Mohammad Hafeez, 2 runs, he stays in the crease and clips the length delivery behind square on the leg side to pick up two quick runs

saira: "@hamza: they also struggle against Morne Morkel (boncers) and Sunil Narine (Off breaks) it seems like they struggle against everything. I think there can only be a fair competition when Some one like Ishant Sharma is bowling to them :D"

16.4

Mathews to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, he waits in the crease and opens the face to defend it to point

Angelo Mathews has left the field midway.. I am not sure what happened. Perera comes in to complete the over

16.5

NLTC Perera to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, he bowls a short of length delivery on off, the batsman defends off the back foot

16.6

NLTC Perera to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, oh another leading edge and it is just out of reach of Perera diving to his right hand side

Shahid Afridi    13* (8b 1x6)      KMDN Kulasekara    9-0-41-1

Another tough chase for Sri Lanka coming up... Back in 20 mins
