Sri Lanka tour of United Arab Emirates, 3rd ODI: Pakistan v Sri Lanka at Sharjah, Dec 22, 2013
Pakistan won by 113 runs
Played at Sharjah Cricket Stadium (neutral venue)
22 December 2013 - day/night match (50-over match)

3.00pm The Pakistan openers walk out - no Afridi there to the disappointment of plenty of our readers mailing in. Sharjeel Khan and Ahmed Shehzad batting, Kulasekara to bowl.

2.50pm Salamat: "Hi..! Inclusion of Umer Gul would do wonders for Pakistan provided he feels at ease. Remember he is making it back for almost nine months, and it is never easy to adjust one self with just one's return to the international arena. All the best to UG and the whole team."

Irfan Tahir: "I believe Misbah has no choice now other than to give new ball to Junaid. I don't understand the strategy why he was not given the responsibility for which he proved himself very effective. Interesting to see Gull in the side Pakistan has better options to solve its Depth overs dilemma."

Angelo Mathews: "It looks like a brilliant track, but once again the dew factor might come into play."

Misbah-ul-Haq: says something that you wouldn't have expected, "batting is our strength". He says he's not too worried over having been asked to bat first.

Tharindu Balasooriya: "Sri Lanka really misses Herath, who used to bowl tight overs and get wickets at crucial times. It's good that winning the toss and bowling first because they know their strength in batting."

Not much of a crowd in yet, perhaps will build up over the day.

2.45pm Also, if you haven't read this feature by Andrew Fernando about Sangakkara and his father, do it now. Few better ways to spend the time till the first ball: "My father, my critic".

Uwaisul Karnain: "It'll be interesting to see at what position Dimuth Karunaratne bats today! I don't think that SL stick with their latest strategy of playing an opening batsman at no. 9 today!"

Bilal: "Everybody's talking about Gul and his yorkers, i just have a feeling he might not be in greater match practice and can crumble in these batting friendly conditions, but having said that , i guess Tanveer needed to be replaced even if by my school team's number 12." Gul did take 11 wickets in a first-class game last week.

Waqas Khalid: "Sharjeel vs Malinga will be a great show today, hoping that sharjeel will come with a strong mindset and will be playing more offside to malinga".

Shani: "I would like to see another go for Anwer Ali in place of Bilawal Bhatti. If today Bilwal doesn't deliver in next 2 match Anwer must get a chance. Have your say guys."

2.30pm Toss Sri Lanka win toss and bowl. Team unchanged. Pakistan one change: Umar Gul comes in for Sohail Tanvir. That will be a popular change I'd think.

Faith in Afridi runs deep, as ever. Danial Noori: "Great news for Pakistani team, Umar Gul is back who always had best of his figures against SriLanka, And a suggestion I have let Misbah give a chance to Afridi and let him open with Shahzad. :)"

khawar: "Want to see Gul yorkers back in action.. Gul vs Malinga today..." I'm quite a fan of Junaid's yorkers too.

2.20pm Hello all, third ODI between Pakistan and Sri Lanka coming up. Toss in 10 minutes. Here's Andrew Fernando's match preview to get you up to speed with all you need to know about the game.

The big news is Umar Gul is back, after nine months away from the international cricket.

First comment of the day comes in from Kiri: "Just as Andrew mentioned in the preview, bowlers will need to redeem themselves. Hopefully, Ramith Rambukwella gets a game today because he bowls tight offspin like Hafeez."

Mohammad Hafeez ends on his highest ODI score to lead Pakistan to a tall total, 102 came off the final ten as Misbah and Akmal chipped in with cameos. Shehzad played a good hand at the start, to lay the base for the final mayhem. Sri Lanka's bowling was nothing to write home about, the spinners got nothing from the track, and the quicks bowled a few too many bad balls in the death.

Zubair: "The classical formula of winning matches in Sharjah is setting up big scores and giving your bowlers a good chance to defend the score. The classical formula to big scores is Javed Miandad's who always believed in taking singles and launching an attack late in the innings when you have wickets in hand. That is exactly how this innings have panned out. Now it is upto Pakistani bowlers, including Hafeez, to win the match."

I'm off to get dinner. Back at around 7.15pm. See you then.
