Shane Watson and Mitchell Johnson picked up three wickets apiece, and Phil Jaques smashed a sparkling half-century as Australia A demolished their Pakistani counterparts in a one-day match at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Having skittled out Pakistan A for just 96 in a match reduced to 42 overs a side, Australia A cruised past the target with 24.2 overs to spare.
Jaques made 64 from 61 balls against an attack that included Mohammad Sami, Umar Gul and Iftikhar Anjum. Yasir Arafat picked up the wickets of Brad Hodge and Marcus North in the dying stages, but nothing could stop Jaques completing the job which his bowlers had started.
Nathan Bracken, called up to the Australian squad for the Super Series, and Johnson did the early damage, and when Watson nipped in with two quick wickets, Pakistan A were tottering at 35 for 6.
A 29-run stand between Hasan Raza, who top-scored with 21, and Zulqarnain Haider, the wicketkeeper, restored some sanity to the proceedings, but Stuart Clark then helped mop up the resistance as the innings folded in just 32.2 overs. As Jaques proved, 96 was nowhere near enough.
