Fast bowler Rana Naved-ul-Hasan has joined players such as Abdul Razzaq and Mohammad Yousuf in wanting to quit the ICL and return to Pakistan provided the PCB takes some initiative in recalling them. Naved said there has been no clear communication between the PCB and the ICL players despite Razzaq and Yousuf also offering to cancel their contracts and make themselves available for national selection.
Naved was named in the probables list for the World Twenty20 in England next month with two other ICL players (Razzaq and Imran Nazir) but the PCB played it safe and dropped all three from the squad fearing a potential face-off with the ICC and the BCCI. Since then the BCCI has offered amnesty for all Indian players linked to the ICL and the PCB said it would consider the players' return only on a case-by-case basis.
"We are all here to serve our country, if the PCB wants us to,' Naved told Dawn. "However, no one from the PCB has contacted us yet with regards to cancelling our ICL contracts and representing Pakistan. They have even selected the squad for the Twenty20 World Cup now and despite us (Naved, Razzaq and Imran Nazir] being named in the original 30-man squad, a PCB official is yet to speak to any of us.'
"Since the board is aware of our decisions and future plans, it is up to them to contact us, ensure us that we will be in their plans and if that is the case then we are more than willing to cancel our ICL contracts."
However, Naved indicated that he will still wait and watch before canceling the ICL contracts. "We can't simply cancel our contracts just to get the Board to talk to us," Naved said. "What will happen if we cancel our contracts and get dumped by the PCB as well?"
He said he had been approached to join the unsanctioned American Premier League (APL) but had no intentions of signing up. "I've been approach by the APL organisers to represent the Pakistani team in the tournament but I'd rather hear from the PCB on the league's status before confirming anything."
