Iqbal Mohammad Ali, a leading Pakistan parliamentarian, has appealed to the country's president and patron PCB, Asif Ali Zardari, to remove chairman of the cricket board Ijaz Butt, who he felt was responsible for the continued deterioration of the national side." In a scathing two-page letter written to the President, Ali argues that Butt's administration has seen the team reduced to the status of "minnows."
The last year has been a particularly torrid one for Pakistan, their win in the ICC World Twenty20 last year followed by a disastrous tour of Australia. Several senior players were either fined or banned by the PCB in the aftermath of that tour, though most of the punishments were overturned soon after. Currently, after beating Australia in the Headingley Test in their ongoing tour of England, they capitulated to scores of 80 and 72 in their two Tests against England which they lost comprehensively.
"The chairman and his close aides have shoddily let down your confidence in them by making a mockery of management ethics at the board," wrote Ali, who also heads the national assembly's standing committee on sports. The standing committees of the upper and lower houses cannot take direct action against any organization, but they can pass on suggestions to the government.
"It is therefore recommended that a very dynamic and energetic administrator be made the chairman of the board so that the affairs of cricket in Pakistan are run professionally. (The) incompetence of Mr. Ijaz Butt has already brought enough shame for our country at international level."
Former players like Aamer Sohail, Abdul Qadir and Iqbal Qasim held senior positions in the PCB but resigned and Ali blamed Butt for their departure. He said they quit "due to egocentric and autocratic attitude of Mr. Ijaz Butt."
The board has also seen through five different Test captains in just over a year - Shoaib Malik, Younis Khan, Mohammed Yousuf, Shahid Afridi and Salman Butt - and Ali said Butt and the management were responsible for such a "comedy of errors."
Ali also alleged that the present team manager Yawar Saeed, whom he said was close to Butt, was supporting certain "groups of players in the team which is destroying the unity." However, he didn't elaborate on the players involved.
Butt took over as chairman from Nasim Ashraf in October 2008.

Posted by oman20101982 on (August 13 2010, 13:16 PM GMT)Well I ll Just Pray to Almighty God . Ask for guidance and Help in all matters ... I think Yousaf and younis should be in the team even if they dont perform cause that is right thing to do , Also two youngsters are good to try but team composition should be justified .. You dont kick 50 + Average Players who are Countrys Assets ... I dont understand , We have 7 foot tall Fast bowler and he isnt incluided in the squad only to be taken out by Indian Cricket league Knight riders ... PLease , i request to include anyone who is naturally gifted like Muhammad Irfan , I dont understand ... ... With this much hieght only if he puts the ball in right area without even pace , he can get batsmen in trouble with bounce etc. I think it s a big bliunder not to take him to England , Only Allah Knows Best ....
Posted by sorryaffair on (August 13 2010, 08:51 AM GMT)As long as we keep getting back door Presidents like current Pres Ijaz Butt who was preceded by another back door President Naseem Ashraf, a medical doctor in the USA, He had no clue about cricket politics for the last 35 years before he was appointed President, as the saying goes, its not what you know, its who you know. PreHe left the country as soon as Pres Musharraf left the country in disgrace. When one tries to save his position based on relationship rather than performance , we will continue going down the spiral of hoplessness and despiar. If Ijaz Butt had any dignity left in him , he should have stepped down himself rather than face a mutiny and humiliation like Naseem Ashraf, after the team collapsed in Australia ( 13 -0 losses) . We are back to 1962 when a junior player Jawed Burki was made captain for England tour, bypassing senior players , result , the worst tour in Pakistan's history. We want election not selection of the President, to eliminate chumcha- geery.

Posted by hit_n_win on (August 12 2010, 22:46 PM GMT)mr iqbal now you did fine job, from 2 years our national team is in trouble.if our govt remove him faster its be a better for our team. we want strong chairman,if imran khan come back as chairmanthats so good if he doesn,t.abdul qadir is a best choice.amir suhail is his dupty, javed miadad is as a batting couch, and other is all ok.
Posted by mkhalilz on (August 12 2010, 18:40 PM GMT)After showing the door to Ijaz Butt, Imran Khan the hero should be made the Chairman of PCB along with Javed Miandad as his deputy .. this would make the 92 world cup team like position, the spirit of which is badly required in given scenario... long live Pakistan!!!
Posted by splitterr on (August 12 2010, 17:26 PM GMT)The reasin behind their poor cricket is so showy. I dont know why we dont see that . I mean bring Younas khan , yasir hameed , Mohammad Youssaf, Asim Kamal And probably wajahat ullah Wasti back in the side and there you go , every thing is on the road. And secondly , there shoukd be at least a hint of justice for God sack. Those boys, who are playing domestic cricket for years and some of them for even a Decade are sadly watching it on TV while some little childs who have playhed only 2 or 3 domestic matches are playing in the National side. I think the solution for their test performence is that NO BODY SHOULD BE GIVEN A CHANCE TO PLAY FOR PAKISTAN AS FAR AS HE DOSN'T PLAY DOMESTIC CRICKET FOR AT LEAST 4 YEARS. And every thing will be alright.
Posted by smjr on (August 12 2010, 15:29 PM GMT)Pakistan cricket is currently run by cricketers who are medium or low performers in their cricketing career. Therefore they are hungry for getting some glory in a indirect way to satisfy their wishes. All belongs to city of Lahore or its adjoining cities or you may say in a broader sense, province of Punjab, wants to induct the new players (batsman) of these cities, depriving merit, hoping they will perform well some day in test matches. Now they want to build this team and keeping faith that at some time these new batsman click. But the question is that why they did not want players who has performed better than these new batsman and are also young for example: Asim Kamal (better test average played some fine test innings), Khurrum Manzoor (decent opener), Yasir Hameed (hold record of century in each inning in test debut as done by Lawrance Rowe), Fawad Alam (hold national record of test debut century in overseas). The answer is that the above players belongs to different provinces
Posted by K.A.K on (August 12 2010, 09:05 AM GMT)It is about time people who understand cricket and its management start defining and suggesting the workable model of a viable cricket board in the country. It shoud include input from past cricketers, administrators and ICC. The organization structure, job descriptions for the positions for Boad of Advisors / Steering comittee, Chairman, team manager, coaches and captain of the team be reviewed and reviised (if already documented and defined). Major issues faced by Pakistan cricket in last 10-15 years be analyzed and certains goals and objectives be set for newly contituted board be defined and reviewed on annual basis. Succession plan should be defined for each role. Outside consultants should be hired to hash out a organization structure that will work in Pakistan and that can withstand political pressures from the govt of the time. It is Zardari now and it will be someone else in the future who would want his / her influence on PCB.
