Zaka Ashraf, the PCB chairman, has hinted at an overhaul in 2013 as part of an attempt to make Pakistan the best team across all formats of the game. Pakistan have had a fairly good year, with the 3-0 Test sweep of England being the highlight, but Ashraf said discipline and a focus on youth would take the team to the next level.

He also pledged a reform of the PCB administration, saying the problem with Pakistan cricket was not in the system or in its constitution but in the people who are in charge. He said he would work to ensure the PCB would fall in line with the ICC's decision that all member boards should have free elections and be free from political intervention.

Pakistan cricket has been riddled with infighting, indiscipline and clashes between players and the board over the last few years. Ashraf said he didn't want to rake up the past but was confident about the present, insisting that player-power in Pakistan cricket was being curtailed.

"One thing must be ensured that the institution is bigger than the player," Ashraf said in an interview with ESPNcricinfo. "The PCB won't allow any player to offset the unity in the team, and each one will have to be responsible for their own performance. I hope there aren't any groups within the team but if there is something it will be dealt with strictly.

"We have given considerable latitude to players and given them the space to perform," he said. "We have been observing each and every player in the team, who is performing well and who is not. I also understand who talks a lot without producing results, so I think 2013 is the year for an overhaul and things will be better soon.

"I want to give Pakistan cricket a new direction and a future - a future beyond all the previous tragic incidents. What is required is to have a free and clean environment for cricket with no more room for yet another controversy. I don't find any reason that Pakistan cannot be the top team in all formats. Pakistan is a very talented cricket playing country but we have to work hard to make it possible. We have short- and long-term plans but I just need time. We are focusing on youth as the current lot who is above 30 might not be as athletic in the field as the Australians are but we can make our upcoming youth a complete product, bringing them up with the best system and training."

He wants to provide plenty of opportunities to young players at the junior level, giving them ample exposure before reaching the top level. He also acknowledged that the 'A' team, which hasn't played too many matches in recent times, needs to be given more chances to help Pakistan test their back-up.

The years between 2008 and 2011 were a low in Pakistan cricket in terms of governance, with frequent disputes between senior players and the board, and a rent-a-quote chairman not showing the tact needed to smooth out the differences. Ashraf was wary about the challenges he faced after taking over as PCB chairman a year ago, and knows a lot still has to be done. "What happened in past is past. I don't see myself criticising my predecessors. Instead I am seeing what can be done to give Pakistan cricket some stability."

I don't see any flaw in the system or in the constitution, the fault actually lies in the people who are at helm of the affairs. System is here to stay, it has to run with always a room for possible improvement Zaka Ashraf

The PCB has come under flak for its constitution that allows its chairman almost dictatorial powers, nearly making it a one-man show. "I am big follower of democratic system but in any case there is always one man behind the gun," Ashraf said with a smile. "I don't see any flaw in the system or in the constitution, the fault actually lies in the people who are at helm of the affairs. System is here to stay, it has to run with always a room for possible improvement.

"But if my working team isn't good then definitely I will not able to perform. I tried to bring a lot of former cricketers on board and made various committees accordingly and they take decision and I only oversee and approve in light of their recommendations. I'm not involved directly nor do I take any direct decisions but I seek explanations before giving an approval."

Ashraf isn't a full-fledged politician but is a member of the Pakistan People Party's Central Executive Committee. With the ICC deadline for removing political interference from member boards looming, the PCB needs to amend its constitution. The prospect of the amendment is not a straightforward move as, according to Ashraf, every country has its unique circumstances according to which the system functions.

The chairman did confirm, however, that the PCB would follow the ICC guideline. "We have already conveyed the details to our patron-in-chief (the Pakistan president, Asif Ali Zardari)," Ashraf said. "We are willing to comply with the ICC provision and there is no point of ruling it out. We will make it before the deadlines approaches."

One of the major items in Ashraf's agenda is bringing back international cricket to Pakistan. "The incident of Sri Lanka team attack was mishandled and it could have been controlled with greater care if the PCB itself had monitored with the help of an advance team. We know proper security wasn't there and routing arrangement wasn't in best shape to allow the team bus. But now things have changed and we are here to own things and have learnt the lesson.

"I know it's a tough task, but for how much time should we sit like this. Only waiting for the right time won't change things but we have to plan for it. We recently have approved a mega project in Islamabad in which we have planned to build a huge stadium alongwith hotel within the premises that will allow surveillance with heavy security and teams will be carried from airport to stadium with the help of helicopters."

i think pakistan need 20 players select beggining othe year.hafeez, nazir, jamsed, asad safiq, azar, shezhad, kamran, afridi, gul, junaid, tanveer, ajmal, raja, monsoor amzad, younish, misba.umar, razzaq, hamad azam, malik, farhat, taufiq, and young some talent perfect for

Posted by syed.r.karim on (October 8, 2012, 16:44 GMT)

First of all Pakistan should educate all the players to take responsibility. All the 30 yrs players like Afridi, Malik, Summy, Kamran akmal, Imran Nazir should be given red alert, they proof they are not competitive in international level. We all know these 30 yrs never have the potential to be a world best cricketer in any department. So, now we should go for new talent like (Osman Salauddin, Babar Azam, Hamad Azam, Nayyer Abbas, Rahat Ali, Sadaf Hussain, Zia-ul-Haq, Anwar Ali, Ahamed Shazed, Fawad Alam)

Posted by ALATIFUSMAN on (October 8, 2012, 8:25 GMT)

good thoughts but the proof of the pudding is eating we will wait and see if this happens, and if it does than ofcourse one can see a ray of hope for future. i would like to suggest that there should be an overhaul of selection committee and that the coach should be given more powers as ECB has given to their coach or CSA has given to Gary Kirsten including being part of selection committe hope this change can come faster than expected. Best Luck

Posted by xylofon on (October 8, 2012, 8:11 GMT)

My incompleteTest/ODi team but it shows clearly the players that MUST play: Azhar Ali/Asad Shafiq/Nasir Jamshed/Fawad Alam(=the highest average for chrissake and the ultimate antidote to hawaii batting!!!)/Zulqarnain Haider(or someone else as wk)/Junaid Khan/M Amir/Saeed Ajmal/Abdur Rehman

I left out two postitions: maybe Raza Hasan should get a slot. It would be very interesteng to see if Babar Azam could be included - he must be tried soon for the A- team, might be the best Pakistani batsman but if he can play in the A-team and not just U-19 is a question mark. Everything else about this man is perfect; pressure playing, captain material and perfect batsman. Coach is Aaqib Javed! No one else.

Good luck Mr. Chairman, If your intentions are good they you shall definitely succeed!

Posted by kdevil3 on (October 8, 2012, 6:05 GMT)

Best of luck for Mr.Asraf . But dont think this will happen under him . May be in Future . Expect Ajmal i dot see a real consistent player whom they can trust . They have to get more Batting quality infact poor and meanwhile should be able the drop the big names at the same time .I dont thing Pakisthan is capable of doing that in current sit............. .

Posted by   on (October 8, 2012, 6:04 GMT)

@ameen786 well said, plus Mr. Zaka, please find us a wicket keeper batsman who knows how to use his gloves behind the stumps and at least is able to rotate strike and hold one end in batting. I also want Umer Akmal out of team for at least an year, send him to play some county so he can learn how to bat in pressure situations, enough of this GREAT TALENT already..

Posted by mshyder on (October 8, 2012, 2:44 GMT)

Good to see his noble intentions. The first thing he needs to do is to have a selection panel with some vision and common sense. Their selected team for the T20 world cup had almost 5-6 players not even worth selection in a 2nd eleven. There is no way that spent forces like Imran Nazir, Shoaib Malik, Abdul Razzaq, Yasir Arafat, kamran akmal & M. Sami would take Pakistan cricket anywhere. Infact the coach & captain shd be admired for reaching this far with the limited resources at their disposal. My T20 team wld be 1.Ahmed Shazad 2.Awais Zia/Shahzaib Hasan 3.Nasir Jamshed 4.M. Hafeez 5.Umar Akmal 6.Hammad Azam 7.Shakil Ansar/Sarfraz Ahmed (wk) 8.Umar Gul 9.Shahid Afridi/Sohail Tanveer 10.Saeed Ajmal 11.Raza Hasan. Realistically Afridi is no more the allrounder of the yesteryear's & his bowling form for the last year or so doesnot even justify his selection as a bowler as well but one may give him some time to either regain some form or retire gracefully.

Posted by   on (October 7, 2012, 23:31 GMT)

we do have good wicket keepers , we need to get rid of Kamran Akmal altogether.

Posted by applethief on (October 7, 2012, 21:39 GMT)

Hopefully, sweeping changes will come after the South Africa tour, because you need some battle-hardened campaigners there, an inexperienced side will simply get swept aside. The upcoming Zimbabwe and India tours are ripe for experimentation though, both inconsequential, and a place for some youngsters to get international experience. Let's see a team built around players like Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq,Nasir Jamshed, Hammad Azam, Junaid Khan & Raza Hasan. A few seniors like Ajmal, Younis, Gul and Misbah can help them achieve their potential

@sinhaya.. thanks allot from all of the Pakistanis for your comments... unfortunately Sirilanka didn't won the world cup but still congratulations that your team played final and remain unbeaten in the whole tournament instead of the final match...

@cric4pak- have you watched the Asian sides play abroad recently. Pakistan will be smashed in South Africa mark my words. Inida were mauled in England and Oz recently. Pakistan have had some good results recently but only because they have played at home. It will be funny watching that Pakistan batting line up facing Steyn bowling his quick out swingers. Expect a rout, trust me

Posted by   on (October 7, 2012, 18:08 GMT)

i think we need serious n bold steps, like gul n afridi must be out of t20 format, rana naveed is a good fast bowler. he needs to get in. hafeez is a street player but unfortunately he is our captain. nasir with imran nazir should open. abdur razzaq's talent must not be wasted anymore. kamran akmal is a good batsman n a worst wicket keeper. saeed ajmal needs detailed guidance. pak should not rely only on spin bowling. we need a young n courageous captain for long term, who can take bold steps like imran khan the great. thanks!

Posted by timtom on (October 7, 2012, 18:05 GMT)

Not really hard..Just give away a trophy to pakistan as 'No 1 team of the world' just like Ajmal was given 'best bowler in the world' very recently...problem solved....

RAZZAK must new T20 team CAPTAIN. PCB should kick off Yasir Arafat, Sohail Tanvir, Sohaib Malik, M. Hhafeez ASAP. 1)NASIR J. 2) AHMED S. 3) AZHAR A. 4)IMRAN N. 5)ANSAR(Sailkoat WKT) 6)RAZZAK A.(CAPT) 7)S. AFRAIDI 8) U. AKMAL 9)JUNAID Khan 10)Wahab Raiz 11) SAEED Ajmal

Mr. Ashraf Thank you for bringing some good changes from the time you have taken over,Also as a pakistan cricket fan i want you to take some serious and hard decision about team selection as follows. 1.drop this players Afridi(Got as many chances as he wanted he is not yet matured playing from past 16 years) 2.Shoaib Malik(Same as Afridi got many chances but fail to impress) 3.Imran Nazir,Sohail tanvir,Mohammad Sami i am sure we have better talent then them in pakistan. Give more chances to Youngsters as much you can no matter if we loose at least they will learn from their mistakes. Please bring these players Anwar Ali,Sohail harris, ramiz raja(JR),Junaid Khan,Azhar Ali,Asad Shafiq and good All rounders...

Mr. Ashraf if we don't do this changes i can see pakistan team becoming next Zimbabwe...Please mr. Ashraf save the talented Pakistn team....

Posted by wasim_007 on (October 7, 2012, 14:54 GMT)

Please make Afridi Captian and bring as Open or 1 Down With Afridi in T20...he is useless to in last over. What make the point to keep him for 7/8 positioin...and let him face only 3-12 ball. Had he been the member of any team in world he would have open in T20...Shame on Pakistan management to sit him out like this player in T20, If he make 15 to 20 run as opener this is quite fine to guide the team for good start and total....

Posted by cric4pak on (October 7, 2012, 14:12 GMT)

I think Abdul Razzak should give a chance to lead T20 team and here is my team for T-20 format. What do you guyz think?..:) 1- Hafeez 2- Nasir 3- Umar Akmal 4- Asad Shafiq 5- Azhar Ali/Malik 6- Abdul Razzaq 7- Kamran Akmal (until we get some good wk keeper) 8- Afridi 9- Gul 10- Saeed Ajmal 11- Raza Hasan

Posted by cric4pak on (October 7, 2012, 13:22 GMT)

I think this is the time for Asian countries including Pak/India/Sri Lanka to rule the cricket world...No Australia & SA anymore..They have already been exposed..& New Zealand and England will always struggle in cricket but will never achieve the top rank..:)

Posted by FawadAkhan on (October 7, 2012, 13:16 GMT)

@ Mohammad Nayeemuddin !!

your dead right bro. but just one change.. azhar ali as an opener and umar akmal to follow as 1down. it would really be impossible to beat this team such combination and team selection.

T20s: 1. Nasser Jamsheed 2. Umar Akmal 3. Azhar Ali 4. Shahid Afridi 5. Asad Shafiq 6.Kamran Akmal 7. Mohammad Hafeez 8. Abdul Razzak 9. Umar Gul 10. Saeed Ajmal 11. Hasan Raza. One Day Internationals: Nasser Jamsheed 2. Umar Akmal 3. Azhar Ali 4. Asad Shafiq 5. Shahid Afridi 6.Kamran Akmal/Hammad Azam/Mohammad Hafeez 7.Adnan Akmal/Sarfaraz 8. Abdul Razzak 9.Aizaz Cheema 10. Saeed Ajmal 11. Junaid Khan Test: Nasser Jamsheed 2. Umar Akmal 3. Azhar Ali 4. Asad Shafiq 5. Yunis Khan 6.Misbah 7.Adnan Akmal/Sarfaraz 8. Aizaz Cheema 9. Saeed Ajmal 10. Junaid Khan 11. Hasan Raza Apply this batting order and Pakistan will succeed. Yunis Khan and Misbah should be limited to only test cricket, and they should play until some good replacement are found, and once there are replacements, they should call it a day. Shahid Afridi should play and lead T20 and one day teams. Do not consider Shoib Malik until four or five frontline batsmen are injured or not available.

Posted by Faridoon on (October 7, 2012, 4:48 GMT)

Mr. Ashraf, I am sure you are doing everything in your power to bring cricket back to Pakistan. And I really supported your strategy of starting with a small team like Bangladesh, but the Bengali paranoia didn't let that happen.

I guess you have to think even smaller. Did you hear the outcry of the associate teams at not getting enough international exposure. Well? Let's put together a tournament featuring Afghanistan, Ireland, Zimbabwe and Pakistan A. I do not see Afghanistan and Zimbabwe having any issues. If Ireland does, then we can make it a triangular.

If Pakistan A features the likes of Junaid Khan, Hammad Azam, Asad Shafeeq, Awais Zia, Ahmed Shehzad, then they may even be stronger than the big boys!

Hire Wasim and Waqar, and invite young fast bowlers from all over the world to learn from them at the academy. A revenue opportunity surely.

Just my thoughts.

Posted by   on (October 7, 2012, 4:38 GMT)

No Doubt pakistan has most talented players and got the best all rounders in the world. If the administration support well, thay can be easily no.1 in all format.

Posted by urprashant on (October 7, 2012, 4:26 GMT)

He should try to find some decent batsmen who can support their bowlers! Like Indian Batsmen, Pakistani bowlers never get support of their counterparts!

Posted by challagalla on (October 7, 2012, 3:17 GMT)

Mr. Ashraf come across as sincere and lets hope he actually walks the talk and delivers. Can soneone explain why the cricket board needs a chief patron and why the patron has to be The President of the country. In India thankfully the government keeps away from the BCCI but unfortunately the politicians do get in, elected by the respective cricket associations. I don't like seeing them on the board but you have to accept they are elected democratically and to be fair to them, the BCCI has done a reasonably good job so far. Coming back to Pakistan cricket I hope change happens for the good fast . World cricket needs a strong Pakistan cricket team hosting test teams in their own country. As an Indian fan I want to see a return to those closely faught , thrilling nail biting encounters soon.

Posted by voyager on (October 7, 2012, 2:53 GMT)

Ashraf job is to make pakistan number 1 interms of facilities and grass roots development. National team's performance is player's job not his. And like we see in case of Australia that the number 1 position comes and goes but that doesn't mean that they are not the number 1 cricketing nation and that is because of their structure and local competition. International team tours will become obsolete with time, he should use this opportunity to develop something of our own and attain self sufficiency, and international team tours will come by themselves.

Posted by   on (October 7, 2012, 2:24 GMT)

Change in Cricket can only happen when there is Change in the circumstances of your nation.I liked your spoken n unspoken words. We will be even happy when people enjoying cricket next door. However the last line was funny Taking players via helicopters thats not going to work out as players panic when there araises a situation so.

Posted by KiwiRocker- on (October 7, 2012, 2:23 GMT)

Impressive words from Zaka, but I will wait for some action. I am less than impressed with recent selection of Pak team for T20. Pakistan's best pacer has been Junaid Khan and he was ignored. Pakistan's most solid batsman in recent times has been Azhar Ali and he was ignored. Surely, If Hashim Amla can play T20 then why not Azhar Ali. I am unsure what sin Asad Shafiq comitted that depsite being top scorer in a warm up against England, he was ignored. Hammad Azam showed a huge promise and talent and played a fine inning in Asia cup final but was ignored. What happened to poor Fawad Alam? What about dashing Owais Zia? Kamran Akmal, Shoib Mailk, Imran Nazir and AFridi need to be kicked out. Afridi and Karam can always make come back but Mailk and Nazir are done! Rana Naveed is a fine T20 player around the globe and better than Sohail Tanvir! Umer Gul needs to be put on notice. I got no doubt Asad And Azhar in team would have meant Pakistan in final of T20.I wait when Zakar walks his talk!

He looks more charming in using vocabulary compared to previous Chiefs.

Its always good for cricket when an Asian & neighbouring Nation like Pakistan stages

If Ashraf even ended up doing 10% of what he is saying, I think this nation will be very happy. We are tired of hearing all these promises since our childhoods but have never seen a change. I love Pakistan and will do till my last breath. Please make it a better place in our life time.

Posted by   on (October 6, 2012, 23:38 GMT)

Pakistan is capable of achieving "Triple Crown" of Cricket. There is no dearth of talent. I would urge PCB chief to start by appointing analytically thoughtful people to selection committee. For example; what was the purpose of Selecting Mohammad Sami to the T20 Squad, considering his performance is poor in all formats of international Cricket. Many examples like that? Why have 4 all-rounders for the Middle Order Batting? Each one of them performed badly.

Posted by Khans_word on (October 6, 2012, 21:07 GMT)

Great dream of utopian Pakistan cricket! If it happens I will be impressed, but the obvious flaws will always exist, probably more so with the economic downturn. What is that flaw, you ask? Its a mentality problem that is endemic in the society of Pakistan. Most people have a fixation on power, greed absolute and forced submission of respect. This is just a fact of life thanks to the flawed political universe of the country. What Mr Ashraf should gaurantee is a system of accountability and fair talent management. Young players of exceptional talent are out there and should be picked up, not those shunted forward because of nepotism, back handers or profiling. Instead of going down the same route of hiring old players to manage Pakistan cricket Mr Ashraf should make job offers to the more upstanding educated Pakistanis in western countries with firm uncompromising social and moral ideals. Maybe if he travels that road the beginning of civil functionality in cricket will turn a corner.

Posted by featurewriter on (October 6, 2012, 21:05 GMT)

Pakistan is historically challenged by incredible swings in performance. Whether it's cricket or hockey, everyone who has ever played against them or watched them knows that they can be mesmerisingly brilliant one day and embarrassingly woeful the next day. I'm an enormous fan of the nation's cricket and hockey teams, but that support is always tempered with frustration. (And when you play a Pakistani team you know that if you unsettle them you've got the game; unlike say the Windies in cricket or the Germans in hockey.) I think they need to address cultural issues (in sport and its administration and organisation) as the foundation for any change in long-term performance. Good luck though. Cricket fans around the world, regardless of where they are from, would rejoice in such a shift.

Its a long time comming and i'll wait until i start seeing it happening before i feel more confident with pakistan cricket team. There are ALOT of off the pitch matters that need to be dealt with before we can start being confident with team selections and pakistan real talent be seen. drnavweed just because the batting is weak does not mean we totally ignore it and overly concentrate on bowling. By playing raza instea of razzaq and nazir and afridi, who both are hit and miss, we did just that and payed for it.

This is a time PCB Chairman Zaka sb. should take action. ABDUAL RAZZAK MUST be new CAPTAIN of T20 and OneDay team. Tean should as 1)A. Razzak(Capt) 2)A. Shazad 3)Nasir J. 4)I. Nazir 5)S. Afiridi 6)U. Akmal 7)K. Akmal 8)R. Hasan 9)S. Ajmal 10)Junaid K 11)Wahab Riaz Junk players like Yasir Arfat, Sohail Tanvir, Shoaib Malik, should be KICK OFF forever from Pak. Cricket Team ASAP.

Posted by   on (October 6, 2012, 17:09 GMT)

A lot of talking by PCB in recent years but if Ashraf is willing to delegate his powers than he should himself take all the blame of failures. He is incharge of everything and enjoys full powers but puts blame of poor performances on other officials. this is the biggest concern. On other side he is too optimistic about inviting other teams to Pak and making this team no 1 across all formats. i needs time if they take steps in right direction now, it will take good 3-4 to show results. I clearly see change in PCB management in 2013 as it is election year and new govt will place the management of their choice and again that would be more of a political appointment. There are no young all rounders who are playing in the team bcz everytime our selectors give another chance to old players like malik, razzaq, akmal and afridi. even in the low profile series youngsters are not groomed.

T20s: 1. Nasser Jamsheed 2. Umar Akmal 3. Azhar Ali 4. Shahid Afridi 5. Asad Shafiq 6.Kamran Akmal 7. Mohammad Hafeez 8. Abdul Razzak 9. Umar Gul 10. Saeed Ajmal 11. Hasan Raza. One Day Internationals: Nasser Jamsheed 2. Umar Akmal 3. Azhar Ali 4. Asad Shafiq 5. Shahid Afridi 6.Kamran Akmal/Hammad Azam/Mohammad Hafeez 7.Adnan Akmal/Sarfaraz 8. Abdul Razzak 9.Aizaz Cheema 10. Saeed Ajmal 11. Junaid Khan Test: Nasser Jamsheed 2. Umar Akmal 3. Azhar Ali 4. Asad Shafiq 5. Yunis Khan 6.Misbah 7.Adnan Akmal/Sarfaraz 8. Aizaz Cheema 9. Saeed Ajmal 10. Junaid Khan 11. Hasan Raza Apply this batting order and Pakistan will succeed. Yunis Khan and Misbah should be limited to only test cricket, and they should play until some good replacement are found, and once there are replacements, they should call it a day. Shahid Afridi should play and lead T20 and one day teams. Do not consider Shoib Malik until four or five frontline batsmen are injured or not available.

Pak selectors and coaches please look at following link:

It is about the best average for all time for all playing countries with qualification of minimum 50 innings of first class cricket (including Test matches) and attaining average of 50 plus. In this list there are two current young Pakistani batsman in Fawad Alam and Usman Salahuddin apart from Younus Khan and Misbah. Other Pakistani batsman figuring in the list are retired from cricket like Hanif, Miandad, Inzamam, Zaheer. The great Don Bradman top the list. It is surprising to see that Fawad Alam batting average is more than any Pakistani batsman appearing on this list. He is also the first Pakistani batsman to score century on Test debut in overseas country. It is very sad that he is not given enough chances at international level as done with current lot of tried, tested & failed batsman. May be PCB chief look into it and bring merit into our system.

I support to the idea of chairman,he needs to control the persons who r working on the helm of affairs, very poor selection, poor attitude of players ,players are far behind the professional approach, lot of areas to improve.Best of luck PCB.

@ Smith Robertson. I agree that Pakistan need a blend of youth and experience to be the top side and that they are a long way off that currently. However I think under 19s doesn't really much in my opinion. I mean pakistan won the under 19 world cup back to back a few years back but no one from the squad made to the national team. Senior squad is a different level all together and some players mature quite a bit as they get abit older. Every team goes through a cycle ( some more than others) look at the Aussies at the moment going through a rebuilding stage. The same was for england a few years ago and now they are no1 in the world Similarly south africa are now a top side albeit can't perform in the big events. It just takes a few years to get the right blend of players to make that happen and thats what Pakistan are going through right now, they have promising young players like nasir jamshed, ahmed shehzad, Raza Hasan and hamad azam it just depends whether they are given a chance.

Mr Asrah, its a long way to go on top, Pakistan couldn't do it when they had Akram, waquar,Akther, Saqlian,Anwar & Inzi all in one team. Now with average players like Afridi, malik,Akmal brothers it will tough to break in Top 4. But NICE TRY, Mr Asraf.

I go through Mr. Ashrad Chief of PCB statement about his future Planning for the benefit of Cricket in the country, what he said if half of the things corrected he can be thankful , first and most important subject his Administration there many Cooks of spoil the broth, many top executives just setting and not any worth, and they always advise the Chairman which is not good for the game, when Mr.Chairman took . the helms of the cricket he promised changes, but we never see any significant changes in his administration same old ages men stll holding very important positions, first of h should removed all old staff who are more than 65 years.m He said player power is eliminated what about Captain and some senior players.Every one was crying before the sami final that Imran Nazir should not open , Nasir Jamshad was alternative choice, even captain himself come down

good thinking and good for pakistan but please sir,,,don,t make any decieion rushly like ,,,Great BUTT sb(former chairman PCB).First think about Pakistan,s owner respect we all with you ...good luck.

don't get disappointment after our T 20 world cup exit. there were so many teams like ind, aus,sa,and eng who had also come to win the cup along our team, but they too were eliminated from the tournament.india who spent so much money on cricket was eliminated in the super eight stage, we were at least lucky that we reached the semi final stage. we were not the only favourate for this tournament when it started, in fact there were 7 teams.batting, fielding are our weaker department,we are weak in these since a long this is not a new thing.our fielding seemed slightly improved in this event.yes we need to work hard in the future to win it for our Country. suresh raina should behave well in the future, both in the field and off the field, after all he is a professional cricketer,he passed bad comments on tweeter and than saying that it was sent by his nephew, but what about his gestures in the field after taking catches against us ,perhaps his nephew will not save him this time.

Chairman Zaka is an intelligent person and so far he has tried to follow the advise of the veterans who played cricket in 60s,70s and 80s. The biggest problem in Pakistan cricket is the larger than life image of players, automatic selection, quota system and telephonic selection. The democratization of the Board may not bring the desired results as well. All we need is a complete reformation of the current selection process. We wasted so much talent from the last 3 under 19 teams which is the main source of players for us. NCA is being monitored by the coaches who have no technical knowledge of the game or coaching. Cricket has become a science now and every country has adapted to this change except Pakistan. Chairman Zaka just needs a thoroughly professional selection committee and an intelligent, educated Captain who has complete control on the team. I think Azhar Ali can be a good choice for future(tests and ODI) with Asad Shafiq for T/20 as both have a very cool head.

@smjr what are you talking about? The whole reason Gul did not perform well was because he was trying those stupid slower balls etc. When he started using the yorkers which are the best deliveries to bowl in t20 he became very successful. Even in the final over all except one boundary came off balls that were not real yorkers. Those stupid wide yorkers outside off and slower balls are hit n miss. It depends on luck. Whereas a real yorker aimed at the stumps is very difficult to get away. Gul should bowl 90% yorkers in t20. He is one of only two bowlers who can bowl great yorkers consistently (malinga is the other). Also Afridi fans need to stop with their "just give him one more chance..." nonsense. We have been giving him "one more chance" for 16 years! Yes he has had some good performances, but those are the exception. They are bad because they mean he will be given 25 more chances! The only time Afridi improved was when Woolmer and Inzi dropped him and he was forced to improve.

As a Lankan I know how warm and hospitable Pakistanis are and eager to see international cricket return to Paksitan soon. Ideally, a system where even a curfew is put in when teams go to and come from the ground would be ideal. I look forward to us playing Pakistan late next year as per the ICC FTP and it may well be again in UAE. Also, in the semi finals of the T20, Jamshed got a bad decision but DRS is the solution. We know who opposed DRS. Anyway, I think the LBW rule must be changed because pitching outside leg cannot be given not out when pitching outside off is ok for LBW.

@FaYsal Raza, Hashmi786, OmarHashmi, Taimoor Naveed Cheema, NOuman AnjUm and justshmad, thanks a lot for your warm wishes! I am ashamed and embarassed that we won the test series against you all 3 months ago 1-0 when it should have been 1-1 or 2-1 Pakistan. Rain stopped you all from winning the 2nd test definitely. I suppose because umpires helped us win the test series against you all, umpires helped us lose badly to India 4-1.

Posted by FawadAkhan on (October 6, 2012, 12:39 GMT)

to nav1181 !! well my dear friend.. are you really talking about 30+ players?? i mean to remove them from our national side? afridi, malik, hafeez, misbah, razzaq, cheema, younus, ajmal, abdur rehman, kamran akmal? omg !!

my dear friends.. reaching semi final is a big achievement itself.. pak prob is the people of pak and the people who run the system, not the PLAYERS. they never gave time to younus who won t20 worldcup for us.. they never gave time to afridi who's individual performance and leadership took pak to the semi final of the worldcup which even inzamam and waqar younus could do.. PLEASE for God sake.. give senior players time and space. every player in the past had gone through bad patch. everything will be fine inshALLAH. BUT pak just need to find an aggressive captain. hafeez's defensive(offensive at times) captaincy cost us this years worldcup.. THAT IS THE CHANGE PAK NEED, 'RIGHT NOW'

Posted by   on (October 6, 2012, 12:37 GMT)

i think that T20 squad of PAKISTAN team must be consist of all young playersbecause in this format you need energetic players who can fight in same sequence throughout the match.Unity, hard work and talend lead any team to success so Pakistan have very talented young players in domestic cricket who are ready to perform but boared just need to get Afridi and Shoaib malik out of the squad.

Posted by   on (October 6, 2012, 12:28 GMT)

very good interview with positive thought which can put Pkaistan cricket on the track of more successes in the future INSHALLAH.

@Sinhaya, Thank u buddy for sooo nice comments as always from any Sri Lankan. Coming to this post, i wish that he succeeds in achieving all what he said. Otherwise, except few names(likes of Air Marshal Muhammad Nur Khan,Kardar,Etc ), who remember the rest of the PCB Chairman Chain.....

I have nothing against Pakistan Cricket think they're a phenomenal side with wonderful talent but this headline made me laugh I mean common, how can you be Number 1 when you don't even hold International matches which obviously has a burden considering Pakistan fans and players are deprived of Cricket in their country therefore less interested. Number 2 most of the current Pakistan team are old and will retire probably beginning with the current full time captain of Pakistan and obviously no way the youngsters of Pakistan will be able to take Pakistan to Number 1 across all the formats if the experienced talented senior players can't common sense really. Also isn't Pakistan Under-19 proof enough after the poor showing at World tournament? you couldn't even topple minnows Bangladesh so being Number 1 in the world across all the formats is far from reach but good luck though :)

Posted by khancrick on (October 6, 2012, 11:06 GMT)

At least a man with a vision is at the helm of Pakistan cricket. Good Luck Mr. Ashraf I personally think you have done a wonderful job so far as the chairman and I hope you will improve the quality of Pak cricket as far as the system is concerned. Rest I guess is up to the players and talent that Pakistan produces.

Posted by   on (October 6, 2012, 10:53 GMT)

well lets hope this works. pakistan a very talented team, but are frequently influenced by external powers. until this stops this plan cannot move forward. pakistan finally has a good coach. there are still couple of player who i think dont really deserve a spot, this also needs to be looked at. but the main thing is political intervention/media (also again with very high political influence), Zaka Ashraf will have to fight big to maintain that or he will become a puppet and this will be just another attempt to glorify pak after such poor performances. I hope Asraf can keep those negative forces out and Pak starts to play with consistency that we all know they are capable of. All the best Pakistan - From India!

Thanks alot Sinhaya.....Best of Luck for Final :)

Posted by nav1181 on (October 6, 2012, 10:47 GMT)

if they really want an overhaul all the 30+ players should never play again, are you listening malik, nazir, afridi , K akmal its a disgrace they don't retire even after performing badly. asad shafiq and azar ali should have been playing instead of malik and nazir, razzaq instead of akmal

Posted by   on (October 6, 2012, 10:46 GMT)

Well said Ashraf... You are a perfect man to improve the flawed system of Pakistan cricket.. And i hope that you can bring back cricket to pakistan..

I hope PCB chief do somethings special which no other chief did in last 25 years or so and is remember by everyone in future times. Apart from administrative changes there is a need for check & balance for every one including PCB chief, DG, Chief operating officer,Captain,Coach and players. We are towards down slide against stronger teams since last 7 years especially in ODI and T-20. Players are not interested in raising their level rather trying same things which brought defeats against good quality sides. Yes if they try something new or extra and defeated then it did not matter much. Our fast bowler Umar gul only knows yorker he never tried or learn slow balls, slow bouncers, off cutter etc same is with Suhail Tanvir. In contrast Malinga and Kulasekra learn and apply these deliveries against Pakistan. If the selectors, coaches captain and players do not change their attitude then we may loose to India in ODIs in December and also find difficulty against South Africa in Feb 2013.

This looks very nice to understand what is required? Mr. Zaka, we just can wait and watch, what are the changing coming soon? however, no big difference yet has been seen till you are the head. I may count many but not a issue as you say past is past and you are in present but I am looking to FUTURE . . . . . .. . . . Best of Luck.
