Michael Vaughan is returning to the UK to see a specialist about his knee injury. Although he recovered sufficiently to partake in the last two Tests against Pakistan, in Faisalabad and Lahore, he showed obvious signs of discomfort when batting and fielding.

"I will see a specialist on Monday for an opinion on my right knee," he told BBC Sport. If he is ruled out of the one-dayers, which start at Lahore on December 10, Marcus Trescothick will captain the side.

Aside from Vaughan, Andrew Strauss and Ashley Giles are also to miss the one-dayers: Strauss is back home to attend the birth of his first child, and Giles too flew home to receive treatment on his injured hip.

Vikram Solanki, Ian Blackwell and Kabir Ali have joined the squad and Ian Bell is on standby if Vaughan is unable to take part.
