England tour of United Arab Emirates, 2nd T20I: England v Pakistan at Dubai (DSC), Feb 20, 2010
Pakistan won by 4 wickets (with 6 balls remaining)
Played at Dubai International Cricket Stadium (neutral venue)
20 February 2010 - night match (20-over match)

17.15 Hello cricket fans, wherever you are, and welcome to Cricinfo's coverage of the second Twenty20 between Pakistan and England at Dubai. I'm Liam Brickhill, and Andrew McGlashan and I will be guiding you through what is sure to be an exciting encounter.

Shahid Afridi is back for Pakistan today, having served his two-match ban, and his presence will surely gee up a Pakistan side who desparately need some inspiration in the midst of a 10-match losing streak.

For their part, England will be brimming with confidence after the way their middle order overcame the early wobble yesterday to complete the good work done in the field.

The big story in their camp is that Craig Kieswetter, who batted so confidently in the England Lions v England game, has been added to England's one-day squad for the tour to Bangladesh. You can read all about it here.

17.30 Pakistan have won the toss, and have put England in to bat. "There was some dew yesterday and our bowlers struggled a bit," explains Shoaib Malik.

And some England team news: Ryan Sidebottom is out with some thigh trouble after falling awkwardly in the field yesterday, which means that Ajmal Shahzad will be making his international debut!

"Hi cant wait for this one-should be a cracker with BOOM BOOM AFRIDI back," says Atif in the UK. You and me both Atif, and Pakistan will certainly be looking to Afridi to bring some magic back to their team dynamic. Afridi v Morgan in England's innings and Afridi v Shahzad in Pakistan's provide possibilities for an explosive contest.

17.54 The same pitch is being used today, Paul Allott and Waqar Younis have inspected it and say that while there hasn't been much wear to the pitch, they think it will be important to see off the threat of the new ball at the beginning of the innings, but expect it to play a little quicker than yesterday.

17.58 Right, batsmen and fielders are out on the field, here we go!

Abdul Razzaq to Trott, 2 runs, full, leg-side, clipped to long leg by Trott

Abdul Razzaq to Trott, no run, Great ball, back of a length and seams away, Trott taps it to the off side

Abdul Razzaq to Trott, no run, Ooh, and again, this one moves away and Razzaq has Trott feeling for it and missing outside off. Ball doesn't carry through to the keeper though

Abdul Razzaq to Trott, no run, full and straight, Trott clips it firmly to midwicket, but well-fielded there

Abdul Razzaq to Trott, no run, Razzaq keeping it very tight here, in the channel on off stump on a good length, and the ball's not really coming on to the bat here

Abdul Razzaq to Trott, 2 runs, full again, and well-placed by Trott past the midwicket fielder, and he picks up a couple more

End of over 1 (4 runs) England 4/0 (RR: 4.00)

    • IJL Trott 4 (6b)
    • JL Denly 0 (0b)
    • Abdul Razzaq 1-0-4-0

Yasir Arafat to Denly, no run, Same ball, but he plays at it this time. hits the inside half of the bat and trickles to mid one

Yasir Arafat to Denly, no run, driven firmly by Denly, but straight at the cover fielder

Yasir Arafat to Denly, 2 runs, straighter again, and well played by Denly through midwicket, the deep square leg runs round and keeps it to two

End of over 2 (4 runs) England 8/0 (RR: 4.00)

    • JL Denly 4 (6b)
    • IJL Trott 4 (6b)
    • Yasir Arafat 1-0-4-0
    • Abdul Razzaq 1-0-4-0

Abdul Razzaq to Trott, no run, pitched back of a length and that seams sharply in to Trott, who plays it a little awkwardly.

Abdul Razzaq to Trott, no run, Trott gets on top of this one, nurdling it to midwicket but the tumbling fielder cuts it off, no run there

Abdul Razzaq to Trott, no run, outside off this time, goes straight on and Trott plays the ball watchfully into the covers. Not timing it too well, is Trott

Abdul Razzaq to Trott, no run, full again, but that's a good line, Trott leans on the ball and pushes to midwicket, but straight to the fielder

    • Yasir Arafat 1-0-4-0

Yasir Arafat to Denly, 1 run, Denly plays this much more watchfully, and the batsmen steal a single to mid on

Yasir Arafat to Trott, 1 run, shorter, and Trott half-pulls this to the sweeper at midwicket. The bowlers have been very straight to Trott, who keeps moving across his stumps

"Reply to Atif: BOOM BOOM Afridi who? Oh - did you mean BITE BITE Afridi?" says Shawn. What jolly fine humour that is.

Yasir Arafat to Denly, no run, Denly charges down the track and has a massive heave, but his head's in the air and he missed the ball by miles

Yasir Arafat to Denly, OUT, Gone! Arafat strikes! Another failure for Denly, ball nips back in through a massive gap between bat and pad and the stumps are rattled

JL Denly b Yasir Arafat 5 (15m 10b 0x4 0x6) SR: 50.00

Denly dismissed by his former Kent teammate there, and Pietersen strides confidently to the crease

    • IJL Trott 7 (13b)
    • Yasir Arafat 2-0-12-1
    • Abdul Razzaq 2-0-6-0

"Why do England persist with batsman who take far too long to get set," says a frustrated Joe. "Denly and Trott isn't a good combination, we need a pair who take the attack to the bowlers, not wait for a bad ball. There's not the time!" Come in Mr Kieswetter?

Pietersen back on strike and he has looked keen and positive again today

Abdul Razzaq to Pietersen, 1 run, another powerful flick off his legs, another fumble in the field as well, this time at midwicket

Abdul Razzaq to Trott, 1 run, thick inside edge as he tries to drive, dribbles towards square leg...Trott certainly not finding it was easy as Pietersen

plenty of banter between Afridi and Pietersen, but Pietersen's come out on top so far. He looks in great touch. And Umar Gul is into the attack now, can he pick up a wicket?

Umar Gul to Pietersen, no run, starts with a short, wide ball which Pietersen throws absolutely everything at, but he's missed the ball by miles

Umar Gul to Pietersen, 1 run, dropped! Pietersen comes down the track and absolutely hammers the ball straight at Afridi, who puts down a tough chance. He looks to be in some pain too.

Umar Gul to Trott, 1 run, and another misfield allows a single

Saeed Ajmal to Trott, 1 run, goes down on his knee and sweeps out to deep square...keeps the strike which Pakistan won't mind

End of over 16 (6 runs) England 110/1 (RR: 6.87)

IJL Trott run out 39 (65m 51b 3x4 0x6) SR: 76.47

Morgan comes in at No. 4...a promotion after last night's effort. What can he do in 3.5 overs?

Umar Gul to Pietersen, 1 run, width outside off stump, swings away further and Pietersen gets the toe end as he drives out to deep cover

That was a curious innings from Trott as he never really found his timing

Umar Gul to Morgan, no run, full outside off, driven firmly to cover and a valuable dot ball

Umar Gul to Morgan, 1 run, angled away neatly down to third man to get off the mark

Gul has done well in this over...can Pakistan keep England under 150?

Umar Gul to Pietersen, 1 wide, way wide outside off, that would nearly have been too wide in Test cricket

Umar Gul to Pietersen, 1 run, excellent yorker, Pietersen was very deep in his crease and jabs it into the leg side

Umar Gul to Morgan, SIX, there he goes, on leg stump and Morgan effortlessly picks this up over deep square-leg for a handsome six...was just a flick from Morgan, but he packs such a punch

Very useful end to the over for England

End of over 17 (10 runs) England 120/2 (RR: 7.05)

Pakistan won't mind singles, excellent stuff from Ajmal

Saeed Ajmal to Morgan, 1 run, full outside off, driven firmly into the offside and straight at cover...a direct hit from Afridi brings the third umpire into action but Wright is comfortably home

End of over 18 (4 runs) England 124/3 (RR: 6.88)

    • EJG Morgan 9 (5b 1x6)
    • LJ Wright 2 (3b)

EJG Morgan c Shoaib Malik b Umar Gul 9 (10m 6b 0x4 1x6) SR: 150.00

England losing their way a touch here...not getting the late charge they wanted

Umar Gul to Wright, 1 run, leg stump yorker, swung away through the side

The bat twisted in Morgan's hand as he played his shot

Umar Gul to Collingwood, SIX, what a way to start, down the pitch and swings a back-of-a-length delivery over long leg for six...that's how to do it

That's the new vintage of Collingwood

Umar Gul to Collingwood, 1 run, uses his feet again and crunches a drive down to long on

Umar Gul to Wright, 2 runs, gives himself room and only just manages to reach this, gets a thick edge down to third man where there's a fumble which allows a second run

Umar Gul to Wright, SIX, goodbye, don't bother looking for that, was on a good length and Wright picked it up early, swinging mightily over deep midwicket for the second six of the over...that was a sweet strike

End of over 19 (17 runs) England 141/4 (RR: 7.42)

    • LJ Wright 11 (6b 1x6)
    • PD Collingwood 7 (2b 1x6)
    • Umar Gul 4-0-43-1
    • Saeed Ajmal 4-0-29-1

So six balls to go, 150 on the cards for England...a couple more sixes would be useful for them, Pakistan need six good deliveries

Yasir Arafat to Collingwood, 1 run, full toss outside off, hammered to cover who is on the edge of the circle

Yasir Arafat to Wright, 2 runs, wide full toss, Wright almost swings himself off his feet and clears short third man for another brace

Yasir Arafat to Wright, OUT, another one goes miles in the air, but not with the required distance and Afridi steadies himself under the catch...importantly for Pakistan it's a dot ball, the wicket is a bonus

LJ Wright c Shahid Afridi b Yasir Arafat 13 (12m 8b 0x4 1x6) SR: 162.50

Tim Bresnan the new batsman...and lazily from England the batsmen didn't cross so he's on strike instead of Collingwood

Yasir Arafat to Bresnan, OUT, low full toss hammered straight down to long off where Imran Nazir takes a good catch...late wickets boosting Pakistan

TT Bresnan c Imran Nazir b Yasir Arafat 0 (2m 1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

Arafat on a hat-trick, but at least Collingwood crossed this time

Yasir Arafat to Collingwood, 3 runs, ooh, that was nearly it as Collingwood swings hard through the leg side and the ball falls just short of deep square-leg running around, but only manages to kick it away

Yasir Arafat to Prior, 1 run, well bowled, excellent yorker and all Prior can do is jab it into the off side for a final-ball single

Well, an interesting innings where for so long England were well placed thanks to Pietersen's 60 from 40 balls, but late wickets kept Pakistan well and truly in the game. Paul Collingwood wanted 140-150 so he will be fairly happy, but Shoaib Malik will feel that Pakistan can chase these down especially with Shahid Afridi back in the side. Join us in around 15 minutes at 7.40pm for the second innings

End of over 20 (7 runs) England 148/6

    • MJ Prior 1 (1b)
    • PD Collingwood 11 (4b 1x6)
