West Indies in Pakistan ODI Series - 2nd ODI

Pakistan v West Indies

Pakistan won by 2 wickets (with 10 balls remaining)

Hello and a warm welcome to the second ODI between Pakistan and West Indies. I am Sriram Veera and along with Sajan Nair, will be bringing you the live ball-by-ball commentary for the day. This is the first day-nighter at Faisalabad.

Toss Pakistan have won the toss and have chosen to bowl first.

Team News Mohammad Yousuf will be missing this game as his wife is unwell. Rana Naved gets a chance. The left-arm spinner Abdur Rehman also gets a game. Lendl Simmons, the nephew of Phil Simmons, will make his debut for West Indies. Daren Ganga gets a chance to prove his worth in the limited overs game.

Chris Gayle is walking out with Lendl Simmons. Here we go.

Umar Gul to Simmons, OUT, Simmons debut ends in a tragedy. He lasted just two balls. He was tempted by a good-length delivery in that channel, poked at it with an open-face of the bat and the resultant edge was picked up by Akmal low to his right.

Naved-ul-Hasan to Gayle, OUT, What a start for Pakistan! Chris Gayle falls. Big wicket. Full and it swung in a bit, Gayle pushes at it defensively, but ends up pushing the bat inside the line, and the outside edge flew low to the left of Inzamam at first slip and he gobbled it up. It was a outswinger to the right-hand bat, and Gayle spotted it and played it accordingly but this one didn't swing in so much as he anticipated and hence he ended up playing in the wrong line.

Ashwin, a reader, asks "Why does Lara give away the initiative to the opposition by coming down the order? Makes no sense to me. It is all well trying to give youngsters an opportunity, but it is high time a legend like him takes the responsibility to give WI a better start. Michael Rooplal has an answer for Ashwin. About Lara's batting order. He writes "The reader should realise that Lara is 37 years of age and it is high time that the West Indian players stand up and be counted as men. He should also note that the Windies are preparing for the WC, so some experimentation at this point is normal. Lara is giving his boys an opportunity to prove themselves."

JE Taylor b Umar Gul 1 (6m 5b 0x4 0x6) SR: 20.00

Gull struck in the very first over and from there on it was Pakistan all the way. None of the West Indian batsmen seemed at ease and they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. In the end 151 runs was all they could manage on a good batting tack. We will be back in 40 minutes time and when we return Sriram Veera will take up commentary - I don't think i will be needed anymore.
