The younger brother of Angus, Alastair Fraser played a few times for Middlesex either side of a spell with Essex. A seamer but without his brother's height or control, he played six Youth Tests in 1986 and in Sri Lanka in 1986-87, his best first-class bowling came on his debut against the New Zealanders when he opened the Middlesex attack with Norman Cowans and took 3 for 46. He quickly became seen as a one-day specialist, moving to Essex in 1990 where he stayed for four seasons. In 1998 he returned for a successful season of one-day cricket with Middlesex. He was latterly coach at St Paul's School.
