Zimbabwe in Pakistan ODI Series - 4th ODI

Pakistan v Zimbabwe

Pakistan won by 7 wickets (with 18 balls remaining)

Hi and welcome to the fourth ODI between Pakistan and Zimbabwe in Faisalabad. The pitch will keep low as the day progresses and the verdict by the experts is to bat first.

Toss: ZImbabwe have won and have no hesitation in batting first. Malik sounds disappointed about the outcome but shrugs it off, saying its "part of the game."

He must be really disappointed as when asked what are the changes he names Sohail Khan, Sarfraz Ahmed and Fawad Alam and can't recollect the fourth change. "That opener, " he says, ... and as the commentator prods him with the name, "yeah Khalid Latif"! Can't blame him as Pakistan have gone with four changes. While Alam and Sarfraz have represented Pakistan before, Latif and Sohail will be making their ODI debuts.

And I am Sriram Veera, your commentator for the day. So do hit me with your views. Let's stay clear from our usual topics. You know them: Salman Butt! I am sure many of you are eager to see how Latif bats here - btw the two debutants received their caps just prior to the game - but you have to wait a little while for that. The Zimbabwe openers are here and let's concentrate on them and the Pakistan bowling.

0.1

Sohail Tanvir to Sibanda, no run, Two slips waiting and he pushes the first ball in the corridor outside off. Perhaps. a tad wide and the batsman leaves it without any fuss.

0.2

Sohail Tanvir to Sibanda, no run, And again, veering away from the off stump but it starts from the off stump, allowing the batsman enough time to see where its going

0.3

Sohail Tanvir to Sibanda, no run, Repeat. Three in a row in that line. Not a bad start, eh?

0.4

Sohail Tanvir to Sibanda, no run, better. This one landed on the middle and off and moved away and Sibanda did well there to leave it. He leaned forward, saw the ball shaping away and shouldered arms

0.5

Sohail Tanvir to Sibanda, no run, this one lands outside off and stays in that region, no problem in letting that one go through to the 'keeper

0.6

Sohail Tanvir to Sibanda, no run, fuller, just outside off stump, Sibanda shapes to drive but thrusts his front foot a bit too across and the ball thuds into the pad before hitting the bat and as a result loses a bit of momentum and rolls towards mid-off

End of over 1 (maiden) Zimbabwe 0/0 (RR: 0.00)
V Sibanda    0* (6b)      Sohail Tanvir    1-1-0-0
H Masakadza    0* (0b)

V Sibanda    0* (6b)      Sohail Tanvir    1-1-0-0

Sajjad had asked me to keep a eye on Sohail Tanvir's pace. I will try to do it this over.

2.1

Sohail Tanvir to Sibanda, no run, Around 127 kmph delivery, full and seaming away, left alone

2.2

Sohail Tanvir to Sibanda, 3 runs, 127.5 kmph, full and slanting away from Sibanda who moves crisply on to the front foot and drives through extra cover. He just timed it, no flourish of a bat swing, just a push

2.3

Faras Ghani, Cricinfo's man at the ground, informs me that Pakistan now have played the most number of ODIs in history. This is their 673rd. India have played 672 while Australia have featured in 669.

3.1

Kamran Hussain to Sibanda, no run, full and outside off, left alone

3.2

Kamran Hussain to Sibanda, no run, shout for lbw and then they go for the 'catch'! Good delivery: it landed on a length, around off and straightened and the batsman was struck high on the pad as he lunged forward. The ball bounded off to first slip

Muhammad Omer points out an error in the second over. "are you sure the speed was 11.8 kmps ? .. it should have been the slowest ball ever i guess if thats not a typing error" Yep it should have been 111.8 !

3.3

Kamran Hussain to Sibanda, no run

3.4

Kamran Hussain to Sibanda, OUT, Gone! Sibanda is trapped in front. Again. It landed on a length, on the middle and straightened. Sibanda had again plonked his front foot too much across and tried to bring his bat around the front pad. Too late. Trapped!

4.3

Sohail Tanvir to Williams, no run, comes in from just outside off stump and Williams leans forward, bat and pad close together, and defends.

SC Williams    1* (8b)      Sohail Tanvir    3-1-9-0
H Masakadza    2* (10b)      Kamran Hussain    2-0-3-1

5.1

Kamran Hussain to Masakadza, OUT, Kamran Hussain has done it again! He might not have that much pace but has that lovely ability to bring the ball back in to the right-handers. This one curved in from the middle stump line and Zimbabwe's stand-in captain was caught in front of the stumps. It hit him just above the knee roll and the batsman was on the front foot but it looked out, if you know what I mean.

6.6

Sohail Tanvir to Taibu, no run, Taibu is on a middle-stump guard and lets this one outside off all alone.

That man Faras again: "In the last ODI played at this venue, South Africa lost the match after opting to bat first. Sohail Tanvir went wicketless in the match but Shahid Afridi caused havoc with three wickets and an 18-ball 32."

Faras: "As Tanvir approaches his fielding position, the crowd chants: "Tera bhi , mera bhi, Sohail Tanvir, Sohail Tanvir." Not rhyming and not making sense, but the disappointing turnout making its presence felt. And to all those disappointed with Pakistan's fast-bowlers so far, there's Sohail Khan to come as first change."

9.3

Kamran Hussain to Williams, 2 runs, again drifting towards the pads, milked past square leg

45.2

Shahid Afridi to Dabengwa, 1 run, comes down the track, tries to flick and it runs off the pad

45.3

Shahid Afridi to Brent, 2 runs, another charge down the track, Afridi fires it in the blockhole, dug out to left of long-off and they run hard to come back for the second run

45.4

Shahid Afridi to Brent, 1 run, goes back to punch it to extra cover

45.5

Shahid Afridi to Dabengwa, OUT, Confusion and he is gone. It was whipped to left of midwicket where Malik fumbles a touch before recovering quickly to throw at the non-striker's end. Afridi gathered and was a touch late in breaking the stumps. The on-field umpire gave it out. The replays - at least one angle- seemed to suggest that the bat was dragged inside the crease before the bails came off. Hmm... And Afridi was pretty late, he collected the ball, moved his hands towards the stumps and stopped! He then proceeded to hit the stumps ...

48.2

Sohail Khan to Price, 1 no ball, goes for a slower one but ends up as a beamer above the batsman's head. That just slipped out of his hands and he looks pretty sheepish about it.

48.2

Sohail Khan to Price, 2 runs, short-pitched delivery and is pulled away to midwicket region

48.3

Sohail Khan to Price, OUT, Ah! here comes the yorker. It is full, fast and swings in late. The bat is late in coming down and the off stump is pegged back. Never mind the speed gun that showed it as 112 kmph, surely you must be kidding me? Peach of a yorker. Keeping up with the great Pakistan tradition. Not a bad way to pick up your first wicket.

49.3

Shoaib Malik to Dabengwa, 2 runs, Where does this one go? It has been slog-swept to wide midwicket region

49.4

Shoaib Malik to Dabengwa, SIX, Another one that disappears over the boundary. Malik went round the stumps but sends down a long hop and he pulled it over the ropes. Good late charge by the Zimbabweans

49.5

Shoaib Malik to Dabengwa, 1 run, OUT, comes down the track, swings towards long leg where Sohail Khan fields and fires in an accurate throw to the 'keeper who does the last rites. Great show by Debengwa, though. This is the first time this series that Pakistan have dismissed Zimbabwe.

KM Dabengwa run out 45 (43m 32b 3x4 2x6) SR: 140.62

Taibu and Williams set it up before Zimbabwe appeared to lose their way against the spinners but a late charge from Debengwa propelled them to a healthy 244. Join me in a short while for the run chase.
