Latif, Wajihuddin put Karachi Whites in control

Centuries from Khalid Latif and Wajihuddin put Karachi Whites well ahead of Lahore Ravi despite legspinner Tanzeel Altaf's six wickets at the Gaddafi Stadium. Latif put on 153 upfront with with fellow Pakistan batsman Shahzaib Hasan who made 66. Latif went on to score his 13th first-class hundred as Karachi reached 209 for 2. However, Altaf dismissed Latif to trigger a collapse that saw Lahore lose eight wickets for 130. Wajihuddin remained unbeaten on 109 but lacked support from the other batsmen. Lahore reached 9 without loss at stumps, trailing by 122.

Khan Research Laboratories held the advantage against State Bank of Pakistan at the end of a second day on which eleven wickets fell in Rawalpindi. After having taken a 40-run first-innings lead, KRL took three early wickets as SBP finished only five runs in front. SBP had fought back after being shot out for 148 on the opening day. Bilawal Bhatti, the 19-year old medium-pacer, had taken 5 for 69 to ensure KRL didn't get too far ahead. All the other bowlers chipped in as KRL were dismissed for 188, captain Mohammad Wasim top-scoring with 39. However, KRL's fast bowlers struck to reduce SBP to 45 for 3.

Wajid Ali, the Abbottabad captain, led a recovery to enable his side to take control against Quetta at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium. Despite opener Ghulam Mohammad's half-century, Quetta had struck repeatedly to reduce Abbottabad to 188 for 6 in pursuit of 215, before Wajid steadied the innings along with Khalid Usman. Wajid made his ninth first-class century while Usman was unbeaten on 46. The duo added an unbeaten 115 runs as Abbottabad finished on 303 for 6, a lead of 88.

Pakistan Television's lower order supported Usman Saeed as his half-century boosted them to 369 against Lahore Shalimar at the Lahore City Cricket Association Ground. A 68-run seventh-wicket stand between Saeed (70) and Yasim Murtaza (32) was key among several useful partnerships. Fast bowlers Aamer Hayat and Emmad Ali took seven wickets between them. Opener Hamza Paracha led Lahore's reply with an unbeaten half-century as they ended on 116 for 3, a deficit of 253.

Aqeel Anjum's unbeaten 172 stretched Hyderabad's first innings to 405, and left-arm spinner Kashif Bhatti took three wickets to leave Peshawar in some bother at 199 for 4 at the Arbab Niaz Stadium. Anjum put on 67 runs for the ninth wicket with fast bowler Sajjad Ali (26). He hit 29 fours in his almost six-hour stay at the crease. Mohammad Fayyaz (57) and Sajjad Ahmed (44) got starts for Peshawar but could not carry on, and it was captain Akbar Badshah's unbeaten 62 that kept them in the hunt.
