The ODI team that is playing WI is likely to be and should be retained for the SA tour with space for one more fast bowler(Dhawal Kulkarni if he is out of injury) if the squad is made into 16. The team for ODIs: Dhoni, Kohli, Dhawan, Rohit, Yuvraj, Raina, Rayudu, Ashwin, Jadeja, B.Kumar, Shami, Mohit, Unadkat, Mishra, Vinay and Dhawal

For the Tests in place of Sachin and Amit Mishra, Gambhir/Baba Aparajith should be picked as an additional batsman and Ravindra Jadeja as additional spinnner and additional fast bowler in Zaheer Khan or Mohit Sharma/Unadkat/Dhawal Kulkarni (depending on whether the selectors want to try out the inexperienced bowlers only or to go in with experience) may also be brought in to complete the squad of 16. The team for Tests: Dhoni, Kohli, Dhawan, Vijay, Pujara, Rohit, Rahane, Ashwin, B.Kumar, Shami, Ojha, Jadeja, Gambhir/B.Aparajith, Ishant, Umesh, Zaheer/Mohit/Unadkat/Dhawal

RISHI DHAWAN should be given chance by selectors. he is far more better then VINAY KUMAR & ISHANT SHARMA in all three departments of the games. He is the leading wicket taker in this season. He can be better option in south africa if TEAM INDIA playes with 3 fasters.

  • POSTED BY Aashiq.kb on | November 23, 2013, 20:16 GMT

Hope the selectors aren't considering to include Gambhir for the SA tour. I haven't seen his knock (153) but I honestly feel that his style of batting is only suited for Indian pitches which are tailor-made for batsmen & spin bowlers. He looks pathetic when the ball starts to swing, seam & bounce!! In simple terms--Gambhir doesn't have it in him to play for India on sporting pitches!

I think gambhir should be given a chance against SA in SA. He is experience and play for hours against best attack in the world. It will be a test for shikhar dhawan and murali Vijay to perform on SA pitches.

i do not understand why Rishi DhawAN is not selected aas an all rounder in Indian team. A genuine bowling all rounder averaging 43 as a batsman, we all know his steady bowling capabilities.. Atleast he is a better bowler than Vinay Kumar and his batting is a positive.

  • POSTED BY crikkfan on | November 23, 2013, 16:42 GMT

Raghavendra we need three fast bowlers in the XI. that means we need four or five ideally in the squad on that plane. Bhuvi Umesh and Shami pick themselves for the first XI - need two good backups.

  • POSTED BY laxmanrules on | November 23, 2013, 15:29 GMT

Rayudu has to be on that plane to SA. On green and bad pitches, he has consistently come out the best batsman in Ranji. Think he has among the tightest techniques to face SA on the green tracks that will undoubtedly be prepared for us. Pujara, Kohli and Rayudu are the best bets against Steyn, Morkel and Philander swinging it. As, only these guys have shown that they can see out testing spells with bowlers on top. Playing Raina/Yuvi/Jadeja in SA will be a terrible mistake. Rahane was so good against quality bowling but seems to have changed his technique to suit limited overs cricket better. I have great respect for Jadeja, but fear he's not a test quality batter yet. Its therefor a bbowling square off between Ojha and Jadeja. Thankfully, fast bowling looks in good hands at least. With Shami, Bhuvi, Umesh and hoepfully, Zaheer. But I just pray that the selectors who have shown so much faith in Rayudu, continue to do so in test cricket too.

Selectors really need to think of fast bowlers in the western countries..!! They need to look after pitches in india as they are more spin track which makes the visitors to play well.So make some bouncy tracks so it might get useful for indian players know how to play in western conditions

  • POSTED BY on | November 23, 2013, 12:40 GMT

    my playing eleven to SA

Dhawan, Gambhir, Kohli, Pujara, Rohit , Dhoni, Ashwin, umesh, Shami. Bhuvi, Zak.

in case we need an extra batsman we can play jadeja in place of Bhuvi.

subject to fitness zak and gambhi is a must.

The point is all the performing players should get the call from the National Selectors. Credence should be given to performance & consistency, who ever or where ever from the player is.

  • POSTED BY android_user on | November 23, 2013, 11:38 GMT

We should have Umesh Yadav on the tour of SA. Three fast bowlers are the minimum in those conditions. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Shami and Umesh are the best of the lot. South Africans do play spin well enough.

  • POSTED BY android_user on | November 23, 2013, 11:18 GMT

    where is praveen kumar.

  • POSTED BY android_user on | November 23, 2013, 10:15 GMT

Pick him up into the Indian squad for SA as an opening partner with dhawan. Dis guy is the best opener India ever had though he hit a rough patch but he is showing improvements and with Sachin gone I think India need an extra batsman as reliable as Dravid and as explosive as Sehwag.

  • POSTED BY android_user on | November 23, 2013, 8:31 GMT

Batting picks itself Vijay, Shikhar, Pujara, Virat, Rohit, Dhoni, Jadeja& Ashwin. Rahane can be backup opening and middle order bat. Saha or Karthik as Backup WK.additonal spinner not required. Raina or young batsman like Samson, Baba can be picked as learning progre

  • POSTED BY android_user on | November 23, 2013, 8:20 GMT

For SA tour, Bhuvi, Shami, Umesh, Ishwar and Ishant (or Rishi or Aaron) should be picked. Bhuvi's swing, Umesh's pace and Shami 's reverse can be ideal. Ishwar can be steady bolwer & can be backup for Umesh. Varun can be picked for pace, Ishant and Rishi can be steady. selectors need to know which combination is required for SA pitches.

  • POSTED BY on | November 21, 2013, 16:58 GMT

why not mohit sharma? what he is doing in dressing room? How many chances Raina will get..if he can't bat on flat tracks what do you expect him to do in australia on bouncy tracks? Dhoni doing politics here trying to save raina as much as he can..while blocking a place for youngster like rahanes or rayadus or whosoever.. if the place is vacant should be tries again minnows !!

Rishi Dhawan again got 5. he is lot better than Unadkat, vinay, dinda

Look at poor Pankaj Singh. Could have been India's proud answer to Holder, and that 7 foot guy

  • POSTED BY jimbond on | November 21, 2013, 14:06 GMT

And surely Rishi Dhawan cannot be worse than Unadkat who finds a place in the national team. Indian selectors are quite mindless. if someone like Akram says that some bowler is okay, the Indian selectors are eager to select them- dont the selectors have any mind of their own? The simplest yardstick is performance at the first class level and Unadkat has shown himself to be an average bowler at that level.
