Anureet singh and Rishi Dhawan have been phenomenal this Ranji season. They should be drafted into India side. We are not going to win any matches with a pace spearhead like Ishant Sharma. Zaheer Khan is on last legs. If they fail in NZ, they should be replaced by Anureet, Rishi, or Pankaj Singh. Please no more Vinay Kumar, Unadkat or Mohit Sharma.

  • Sheela on January 12, 2014, 10:22 GMT

It is heartening to note that all four quarter final matches were conclusive and were not decided on first innings lead.

  • GAMAGEE on January 12, 2014, 10:08 GMT

Well Done Bengal. Its time to kick out Arindam Das & Subhomoy and rope in Manoj + another promising youngster in the middle order. Leave the pack to Ashok Malhotra & LRS. Assholes like Deep Dasgupta & bunch of CAB jokers should let the team devise its own strategy and get going in the winning ways. An occasional tip from Dada is welcome but street walkers like Arun Lal, Sanbaran, Raju, Chuni et al should not intervene.

i think Anureet singh, Rishi Dhawan , Vijay Zol, KL Rahul ,Samson deserves a chance to play for india.if they get selected it will be a nice chance to showcase their skills.Anureet and Rishi Dhawan are swing bowlers. They can swing the ball both the ways.Vijay zol and KL Rahul are good opening batsmen. They can be given a chance to play for india.Sanju is a good middle order batsmen. he is pretty much suited for t20 format.

an outright win on 4th day itself against last years winner Mumbai is really by Maharashtra team on wankhede stadium is really astonishing.an overall team performance by Maharashtra is really worth praising.conceding 122 runs lead of 1st inning to Mumbai it becomes more creditable for maharastra team.full credit goes to kedarjadhav/Vijay zol for their thinking and building winning runs score on their own and in really nice time.congratulations to surendra bhave and his deserving boys for excellent show off in this ranaji quarter finals.wishing to continue good performance and wishing best of luck for semis next week.

  • TNAmarkFromIndia on January 11, 2014, 12:11 GMT

Anand Jakhotia, but both the Mumbai coach and the Maharashtra bowlers agreed that the wicket was offering help to the fast bowlers. It can't suddenly change in one day from a good bowling wicket to a batsman's paradise, Give credit where it's due. Jadhav and Zol batted with great patience and calm in the first 20 overs or so, and when they had settled in, they took the attack to Mumbai and didn't give them any chance of coming back in the game.

  • VinodGupte on January 11, 2014, 11:48 GMT

both zol and jadhav will shine in this IPL. i hope zol plays all the matches. we have another 19-year-old superstar in the making after ViKo.

with no agarkar, rahane and kulkarni, mumbai were expected to struggle but this performance was not expected of them. i hope maharashtra wins the trophy this year. a lot depends on zol's batting now on.

  • on January 11, 2014, 11:24 GMT

one bad session cost Mumbai dearly. getting bundled under 130 was too difficult to digest & 3rd day was best day for batting & Maharashtra held their forte without getting awed by the occasion. further zaheer's captaincy was pretty mediocre. after getting the wicket at the start, he just allowed the game to slip away by shying away from attack. probably he dint trust his fitness or dint want to risk his body. that's very poor for a bowling spear head.

  • on January 11, 2014, 10:59 GMT

Somehow I am very happy that Mumbai lost. The same feeling I used to get when Ferrari lose a race during their glory years.

  • on January 11, 2014, 10:12 GMT

vijay zol would play for the indian national side soon.

  • TNAmarkFromIndia on January 11, 2014, 10:09 GMT

One of the most hilarious sights of the day was the veteran international bowler Zaheer Khan sledging the 19-year-old Vijay Zol when the match was all but lost. Zol replied the very next ball with a cracking shot over mid-off. Shameful from Zaheer. Sledging was not going to save the game that was taken away from them due to his own poor captaincy.

  • jimbond on January 11, 2014, 10:04 GMT

Now that there is just one match left to be decided, hope more updates of the Bengal-Railway match are there. Would have loved a J&K upset, but that would have made it too easy for Karnataka. Punjab in Mohali will be a tough opposition. Sandeep Sharma and Kaul would be more lethal than Vinay Kumar/Mithun on these pitches. Its silly that people are still harping on the Mankading incident. I hope Murali Karthik wins it for Railways on the basis of his batting, and give Bengal (and its coach) something to remember for the next several years.

  • on January 11, 2014, 9:48 GMT

Both zol and Jadhav deserve lot of credit. They should be selected for overseas India A team consistently .unfortunate that Zaheer didn't bowl at full tilt knowing what was at stake. Mumbai needs more youngsters and fresh legs. There's no X factor in their bowling.

  • on January 11, 2014, 9:26 GMT

Well played Maharashtra! Kedar Jadhav is a solid batsman..unlucky to have not played for India till now. I hope he gets a good deal in IPL.

On Mumbai well they were without three key players Rohit, Ajinkya & Dhawal - their replacements were pretty mediocre.

  • on January 11, 2014, 9:06 GMT

well done maharastra you deserve this win

  • TNAmarkFromIndia on January 11, 2014, 8:59 GMT

Zol and Jadhav have displayed an amazing display of batting to take Maharashtra through to a sensational win. They have absolutely dominated Mumbai since lunch, smashing a hapless Mumbai bowling attack to all corners. A Group C team is on the verge of beating the defending Ranji champions, and the way they have played in these last two days, no one can call this a fluke.

  • shri_sonar on January 11, 2014, 7:11 GMT

Really well played session by Maharashtra, Hope they win this by today and stage what would be rated as a great comeback in Ranji trophy against Mumbar.....

  • TNAmarkFromIndia on January 11, 2014, 7:05 GMT

Yesterday I said that Maharashtra will need to bat with grit and determination and have to be wary of their shot selection, and this morning they have done exactly that. Mumbai didn't help their cause by bowling far too wide in the initial overs. Zol and Jadhav have settled in nicely now and the runs are beginning to flow. History beckons, Maharashtra!

  • gsingh7 on January 11, 2014, 6:48 GMT

all over for j and k. 146/7 with hardeep retired hurt due to bouncer of vrv singh. now punjab have great chance to reach ranji final as semi is a home game where punjab have formidable record. chawla is only man standing between karnataka and victory. rasool. was overrated as batsman but he was taken cheaply second time around. come on punjab take 3 more wickets, asap

  • on January 11, 2014, 6:11 GMT

if j&k wins, then they will make a history but i am hoping bengal to emarge as a winner but right now it looks a little bit unpredictable from here.i think its too early to comment on any thing because this is cricket and any thing can happen and we have seen that in the bengal vs tamilnadu match..... wait nd watch

  • on January 10, 2014, 12:57 GMT

star shwing same mth on two channel instead they should go for two different matchs on both channels This should be better shwing both semifinals live rather then shwing one on bth channel

  • Al_Bundy1 on January 10, 2014, 12:41 GMT

A century and a 5 wkt haul for Parvez Rasool. This proves that he is the best spin bowling all rounder in India at the moment. Rishi Dhawan is the best pace bowling all rounder. Both of them deserve to play for India.

Hopefully J&K can win and go on to the semi finals. Kudos to the curators for preparing sporting pitches for the Ranji quarter finals. Teams playing for only first innings lead was the bane of Indian cricket.

  • gsingh7 on January 10, 2014, 12:02 GMT

big finish in baroda tomorrow. few quick wickets and it will be over for j and k. its david vs goliath with group a runner ups vs group c runner ups. 250 needed with 8 wickets remaining.

  • on January 10, 2014, 11:33 GMT

Bengal lead by 134 runs at stumps day III huh and a 91 run partnership between LRS and W Saha. Captain and young gun we need more tomorrow.

  • on January 10, 2014, 10:39 GMT

If only Rasool can cement his place in one of the IPL teams, he can prove his talent and experience to handle tough situations. In a team like DD, RR, KXIP or SRH he can get a chance and he surely would emerge victorious

  • on January 10, 2014, 10:28 GMT

  • on January 10, 2014, 7:32 GMT

What is the score of Bengal vs Railways match?

  • SidsIPLTeam on January 10, 2014, 7:19 GMT

I think Bengal let a huge opportunity go with Railways reeling at 42/5. If they had managed to get Railways all out for 150, they could've sealed the match with a second innings score of 200+ only. But, now Railways will have ample confidence that they can come back and win from any position. The slender 3 run lead has only ensured that if the match is drawn then Bengal will go through, though it is highly unlikely because the teams don't look like lasting the distance.

  • tickcric on January 10, 2014, 6:53 GMT

What a contest Bengal and Railways are producing here!

  • gsingh7 on January 10, 2014, 6:35 GMT

good batting by yuvi and mandeep. now if only lower order score 50-60 runs then punjab is in strong position. batting last jk will struggle to score 200 plus against this good punjab bowling lineup on a seaming track.

  • gsingh7 on January 9, 2014, 14:01 GMT

punjab needs 200 more to ensure outright victory.match will be over in 4 days. no way it will be a draw on this seaming track. punjab need to get rasool for less than 50 in 2nd innings for an easy win.

  • on January 9, 2014, 13:21 GMT

j&k batsmen should have been more positive in first innings.. anyways they r still doing well. match is evenly poised. well played skipper. other batsmen should have stayed for more time on crease. they need to come with positive frame of mind on third day. Punjab t 2 wickets down. hope j&k bowlers get them quickly....

  • Sir_Ivor on January 9, 2014, 12:18 GMT

A wonderful comment from roadhouseblues and I endorse it completely. Rasool is good but will have to wait for his turn. It may happen in the forseeable future also. But not because someone more comfortable with motorbikes than cricket wants him to be selected.

  • on January 9, 2014, 10:37 GMT

i think rasool needs to play more first class games.before he makes it to national playin 11....internatinal crickt requires more experience...moreover rasool shld perform consistently better with the bowl rather thn with bat....this 2013 ws nt grt for him....

  • GoldenRed on January 9, 2014, 10:30 GMT

Good to see matches are played on result oriented pitch rather than boring batting pitches where one team will have upper hand and win the matches through first innings lead.. Hope similar trend continues in semi's and finals. Also next season

  • roadhouseblues on January 9, 2014, 10:29 GMT

@Sharma 987, I would say it is a very poor comment from you that Rasool was not selected in the playing XI owing to team politics.... Ajinya Rahane and Manoj Tiwary have been excellent performers in the domestic circuit for ages and they have been perpetual bench warmers for the team. It is only fair that they be rewarded the opportunity first....So I would like to stand by what Kohli has done - He has given those who have been waiting in line for a MUCH longer time than Rasool an opportinity... This is in no way demeaning to Rasool - HE is a quality player and he will get his opportunity soon.....

I remember Honourable CM Omar Abdullah's comments which said 'Rassol could have rather stayed in India, rather than having gone all the way to Zimbabwe and not get a game' - I would have preferred if Kohli had said something like this - ' I don't push my nose into your state politics, do I? I would prefer it if you were to keep yours out of my team selection' ...........

J&K 243 for 6 against Punjab. Rasool on 93 and Beigh on 35.

Maharashtra 122 for 3 with Jadhav batting on 40 and Bawne on 60.

Railways go to tea at 123 for 5 in 41 overs, trail Bengal by 194 runs.

Railways are 36 for 2 in 17 overs. Rangsen still to get off the mark, while Bhille is unbetaen on 18

Mumbai are now 11 short of 400. Abdulla is on 42

Adil and Parvez Rasool need to put a big partnership here. JK are 100 for 3

UP are 24 for 1. Vinay with the wicket of Mukul Dagar.

  • Harizs on January 8, 2014, 10:57 GMT

Robin Uthappa should make a come back in Indian Team he is only batsmen to play courageous shot ..walking down the pitch to fast bowler like lee..he can b a great assest to the team in longer format..its sad selectors look at age n select rather than talent..he would have done way much better thn rohit, raina and vijay if he was given such number of chances.pls publish
