Ranji Trophy - Final

Karnataka v Maharashtra

Karnataka won by 7 wickets

Overs 1-50  | Overs 51-100  | Overs 101-150

9.30 am Harshad Khadiwale and Chirag Khurana are out there for Maharashtra. Vinay Kumar runs in with three slips, gully and short leg

9.20 am Maharashra have had experience in Hyderabad: Kedhar Jadhav and Harshad Khadiwale, the two leading run-scorers of this season's Ranji trophy, slammed more than three hundred runs between them alone. The pitch report says it is quite dry, with just a bit of moisture to hold it together. With the sun beating down on a dry surface, there could be some reverse swing as well. Bat first would be the ideal strategy but anything less than 600, teams have chased them down. Both teams are equal in seam and batting departments, but on spin Maharashtra might have the edge

Rohit Motwani, the Maharashtra captain says he is looking to focus on the process they've been doing since the start of the tournament and hopefully win the Ranji Trophy final. The boys are in good shape and the team is in great form. Not too much pressure and hopefully we put on a good show. We had back-up for Vijay Zol, but we're happy he's with us

"We were prepared to bowl first, but we would like to have batted", says Vinay Kumar, the Karnataka captain. We've done well in this season so far, even in the last game we came back against Punjab. The last time we were in the final, we lost to Mumbai by six runs. We've lost out in semi finals and quarters a few times since then, but today is a big chance to set that right. We've got seven or eight players who've played a Ranji final before and we're confident

9.10 am Maharashtra have won the toss and elect to bat.. Dominic Joseph sits out and Shrikant Mundhe takes his place. Their opponents have bolstered their bowling for this match, bringing Sreenath Aravind in and dropping Mayank Agarwal.

Sumanth: "Go Karnataka Go!!! Manish Pandey's knock and the spectacular catch from the last Ranji finals Karnataka played, are still fresh in the memory."

Charudatta: "The momentum is with Maharashtra..the team is on a roll..The Silverware is coming home..Bring it on..."

8.55 am And for the romantics, this is a recount of the last time Maharashtra sailed all the way to the top. Amol Karhadkar has the skinny: "One of the ends was a green top, the other a dustbowl," was how Surendra Bhave, the now coach, described the pitch for that match in 1993.

Gowtham: "Sharath is not playing today also as he is not recovered from Shoulder Injury"

RANJI FANATIC: "Is Vijay Zol available for selection? And is HS Sharath fit to play?" Zol joined the squad a couple of days ago.

8.50 am We will have details of the toss with you momentarily but if you're already getting fidgety, here's the preview, by Karthik Krishnaswamy, to calm your nerves.

kartikeya: "My mind says Karnataka but heart says Maharashtra. Karnataka is the better team but I would love to see a group C team winning this time."

8.45 am Hello and welcome to ESPNcricinfo's live coverage of the Ranji Trophy final between Karnataka and Maharashtra. And what a story it has been for both teams, Karnataka riding on a wave of six outright wins and Maharashtra downing a Ranji trophy heavyweight in their neighbours, Mumbai, to snare a spot in the semis and then pip Bengal to seal their spot here today.

1.1

3.6

Mithun to Khadiwale, no run, length and outside off, left alone.

4.4

Vinay Kumar to Khurana, no run, full and outside off as he leaves it alone again

4.5

Vinay Kumar to Khurana, no run, beauty, pitching on a lovely length just a shade outside off and it seams after pitching. Khurana had to play at that, but it was too good even to claim the outside edge

4.6

Vinay Kumar to Khurana, no run, back of a length outside off as he stands up tall and blocks

Hari: "How did Mithun manage to bowl that at 100 Kph...Even the slowest of slow balls would come somewhere near 115-120 kph." He is struggling for rhythm this morning. Started off with a couple of big no balls

5.1

Mithun to Khadiwale, FOUR, too straight on middle and Khadiwale clips it off his knees. KL Rahul races after it and was in the hunt, but the ball just about dribbles away. His fingertips almost got to it as he dove headlong after the ball right on the boundary rope

5.2

Mithun to Khadiwale, no run, back of a length outside off as he defends, if a little away from the body

5.3

Mithun to Khadiwale, no run, full and seams in, but it started well enough outside off not to trouble the batsman into playing

5.4

Mithun to Khadiwale, no run, full and angled in on middle as Khadiwale punches down the ground. Good timing behind that, but he can't beat the bowler

two slips, gully and short midwicket

6.1

Vinay Kumar to Khurana, no run, full length gets a bit of shape away as Khurana leans forward to defend

6.2

Vinay Kumar to Khurana, no run, bouncer, well directed again and this gets appreciable carry as the keeper has to leap off his feet to get that. Khurana is safely under it though

6.3

Vinay Kumar to Khurana, no run, 130 kph, another good short ball as he gets this to rise around shoulder height and makes Khurana sway inside the line and drops his wrists

6.4

Vinay Kumar to Khurana, 1 run, back of a length as he dabs this shorish ball outside off into the covers

6.5

Vinay Kumar to Khadiwale, no run, goes short to Khadiwale as well. Right over middle and leg as Khadiwale ducks and he doesn't pull down the bat again

6.6

Vinay Kumar to Khadiwale, FOUR, very full on off stump, but he was worried about the short ball as he stayed well inside the crease. But his straight bat had no problem hitting through the line and getting a four through mid-off.

7.3

Mithun to Khurana, no run, dug in well short and just a touch outside off, Khurana sinks low and keeps his bat well away from the line

7.4

Mithun to Khurana, no run, darts in on the pads again as Khurana shuffles across and clips it behind square leg

7.5

Mithun to Khurana, no run, gets right behind this back of a length delivery outside off stump and pushes it to mid-on

8.1

Vinay Kumar to Khadiwale, no run, good length ball on middle as he defends solidly off the back foot

8.2

Vinay Kumar to Khadiwale, no run, good length ball outside off stump, left alone with no fuss

8.3

Vinay Kumar to Khadiwale, no run, ventures fuller, but Khadiwale prefers to stay back and leave it. Probing line just outside off again

8.4

Vinay Kumar to Khadiwale, OUT, there's the first one down! He was stuck on the back foot for a long time and this full length ball had just a touch of shape in. Khadiwale looks to defend but plays the wrong line as he brings his bat around the pad and is trapped plumb in front.

8.6

9.1

Aravind to Khurana, no run, length and pushed across the right-hander as he defends quite solidly off the front foot

9.2

Aravind to Khurana, no run, back of a length outside off stump as he blocks off the back foot now

9.3

Aravind to Khurana, 2 runs, on the pads a little too much as he flicks it away through the square leg region and they pick up a couple on the back of some ordinary fielding from Mithun. Got to the ball with a slide, but he fumbled while picking it up

9.4

Aravind to Khurana, no run, wild, wild shout from Aravind and the men close around the bat. Length ball targeting leg stump as he tries to flick, gets a bit of pad through to the keeper and umpire Shamsuddin asks the players to calm down

9.5

Aravind to Khurana, no run, short ball dug in and pushed across him as Khurana ducks under

9.6

10.3

11.3

Pandey to Zol, no run, touch of shape away, but nothing troubling as he leans forward and drives this full length ball down to mid-off

11.4

Pandey to Zol, 1 run, this time he brings the ball in, but Zol is wary as he leans over the ball and tucks it away to square leg and the two batsmen just about prevent a collision

11.5

Pandey to Khurana, no run, full and outside off as he leaves it alone

11.6

Pandey to Khurana, 1 run, outside off stump and inviting the drive through the covers. Khurana stretches forward and opens the face to put it into the gap for a single

12.1

Aravind to Khurana, no run, second slip... drops it. Pandey did well getting to it as he dove low to his left. Got two hands to it, but puts it down. Genuine edge as this was on a length and angled across the right-hander which almost did it for Khurana. Slow movement to come forward

15.2

Mithun to Zol, no run, keeper goes up in appeal, he's been quite excitable this morning. And this was something to be excited about. Full length ball draws Zol half-forward, but the seam away defeats the push down the ground. Magnificent delivery
