Satish, Fazal flatten Saurashtra

A round-up of the Ranji Trophy Group B matches played on January 13, 2015

Vidarbha352 for 3 (Satish 167, Fazal 107, Badrinath 62*) v Saurashtra
Scorecard
It was batsmen's day out in Nagpur as Faiz Fazal and Ganesh Satish struck their first hundreds of the season to power Vidarbha to 352 for 3 at the end of the 90 overs on the first day. Eight of Saurashtra's XI had a bowl, including Cheteshwar Pujara after he returned from Australia, but only two of them were successful.
The early break came through a run-out as 19-year old Sachin Kataria finished a disappointing debut innings in competitive cricket when he was found short of his ground by Jaydev Shah. But the next one would cost 217 runs.
Satish, who had fallen for 99 in his last match, racked up 167 runs off 231 balls while Fazal had 107 off 179. There were 29 fours and three sixes between the two batsmen.
Neither of them could survive the day though - Satish was dismissed with two overs left to stumps and Fazal in the 60th - but S Badrinath built on the mammoth foundation with 62 and remained unbeaten.
Gujarat 284 for 4 (Panchal 85, Venugopal Rao 75*, Choudhary 2-76) v Punjab
Scorecard
Half-centuries from Priyank Kirit Panchal and Venugopal Rao led Gujarat to a strong position against Punjab in Ahmedabad.
An early strike for seamer Siddharth Kaul seemed to put a dent into the hosts' decision to bat at the toss, but Panchal led a 117-run stand with Bhargav Merai regained the advantage. Punjab fought back again as left-arm spinner Vinay Choudhary removed both batsmen in the space of nine runs and Gujarat were 143 for 3 in the 49th over.
The wobble appeared to worsen when captain Parthiv Patel was dismissed for 34, but Venugopal Rao, with 75 off 133, including 10 fours and Rujul Bhatt's 37 off 87 ensured the momentum shifted back to Gujarat.
Delhi 248 for 5 (Unmukt 117, Manhas 55*) v Odisha
Scorecard
Delhi rode on Unmukt Chand's century - third in five matches and seventh of his career - but limited support from the rest of the line-up meant Odisha had not fallen too far behind at Feroz Shah Kotla.
Having failed twice on the usually spicy Lahli track, Unmukt was able to offset the early wicket of captain Gautam Gambhir and redress the balance again after Virender Sehwag was dismissed for 39 off 44 balls. Mithun Manhas had helped during a third-wicket partnership of 122 runs that had appeared to put Delhi on course for a dominant day.
But Govinda Podder's part-time offspin had Chand bowled in the 69th over, left-arm spinner Dhiraj Singh struck in the 78th and Rajath Bhatia was dismissed for a duck in the 81st over by Deepak Behera to keep the match in the balance. Delhi will rely on Manhas, who is unbeaten on 55 off 152 balls to push their case on the second day.
