Services edge ahead on 19-wicket day

Sheldon Jackson and Ravindra Jadeja's 146-run stand for the fifth wicket helped Saurashtra recover from 94 for 4 to finish the first day strongly on 270 for 6, against Tripura in Rajkot. Playing his first Ranji Trophy game since 2012, Jadeja struck 11 fours during his 138-ball 91.Complementing him was Saurashtra's top-sorer from last season Jackson, who remained unbeaten on 82 till stumps were drawn. After choosing to bat, Saurashtra lost Avi Barot and Cheteshwar Pujara inside 28 overs, both falling to Abhijit Dey. Left-arm spinner Tushar Saha then dismissed Sagar Jogiyani, while Dey had Saurashtra's captain Jaydev Shah stumped in the 36th over. Dey eventually finished with 4 for 107.

Services 131 for 9 (Nadeem 2-21, Jaskaran 2-22) lead Jharkhand 45 (Pathania 6-19) by 86 runs

Nineteen wickets tumbled in Delhi on a day a pack of three debutants from Services skittled Jharkhand for 45. The Services pace attack was led by Diwesh Pathania's 6 for 19 and supported by Raushan Raj's 3 for 14 as they allowed only two Jharkhand batsmen to reach double-figures. The third debutant - Poonam Poonia - took 1 for 12 from eight overs. The Jharkhand bowlers fought back by taking nine wickets for 118 runs but Services went on to take a lead of 86 by the end of the day.

Services cashed in on their decision to field when Pathania and Raj had Jharkhand on 0 for 2 and shared the top five wickets between them. Jharkhand's highest partnership was of 16, for the third wicket. Pathania took the last three wickets in 11 balls to end the innings.

Services lost two of their top three for ducks before the middle order hauled them past 50 and into the lead. Rajat Paliwal, Yashpal Singh and Shashank Sharma scored in the twenties before they were 86 for 7 and a bit of resistance from the tail took them to 131 for 9.

Jammu & Kashmir 247 for 7 (Rasool 54, Bandeep 50*, Gomez 2-20) v Kerala

Jammu & Kashmir's top and middle order chipped in with handy knocks, as the team battled its way to 247 for 7 on a hard-fought day against Kerala in Srinagar. J&K, batting first, were precariously placed at 91 for 4 before they were rescued by a 74-run stand between Parvez Rasool and Bandeep Singh. Rasool (54) and Bandeep (50 not out) both struck half-centuries, but once Rasool was bowled in the 59th over, J&K lost two more quick wickets. However, Bandeep and Waseem Raza, the No.9 batsman, batted out the last 10 overs safely. Medium-pacers MD Nidheesh, Ahmed Farzeen and Raiphi Gomez picked up two wickets apiece for Kerala.

Hyderabad 246 for 5 (Vihari 82, Akshath 61) v Goa

A 113-run partnership between Akshath Reddy and Hanuma Vihari laid the foundation for Hyderabad's 246 for 5 against Goa in Povorim. Hyderabad, after being inserted, lost their opener Tanmay Agarwal early, but Akshath and Vihari counterattacked, as their second-wicket stand lifted the visitors past 100. Akshath hit 10 fours during his 61, and Vihari's 82 featured four fours, but both batsmen were dismissed in quick succession, opening the door slightly for Goa. The hosts also prized out the wickets of Bavanka Sandeep and Ashish Reddy, while Hyderabad's wicketkeeper Habeeb Ahmed had to retire hurt while batting on 5. B Anirudh (24 not out) and Akash Bhandari (15 not out) were at the crease when stumps were called.
