Vidarbha squandered the early advantage given by their openers, Faiz Fazal and Amit Deshpande, who added 83 for the first wicket, as they capitulated to 217 on the first day in Indore. Sunil Dholpure, the offspinner, played a critical role in swinging the match Madhya Pradesh's way, taking a career-best 7 for 37, as Vidarbha lost their last seven wickets for 35 runs.

In response, Madhya Pradesh got off to a solid start, ending the day at 50 for 1, losing Naman Ojha for 20.

Himachal Pradesh struck back, reducing Haryana to 66 for 6, after being bowled out for a paltry 113, as 16 wickets fell on an the first day in Rohtak. As few as three Himachal Pradesh batsmen reached double figures, including Paras Dogra, who top-scored with 34. Sanjay Budhwar, the left-arm fast bowler, was the star for Haryana, taking five for 30, as the hosts failed to build partnerships after opting to bat first, with the 27-run stand between Sangram Singh and Vinit Indulkar being the highest. Dhruv Singh, the debutant, bagged two wickets.

In response, Haryana fared just as poorly, losing their first five wickets to Vikramjeet Malik, the fast bowler, who ended the day with figures of 5 for 37. Haryana managed just four boundaries in 32 overs, as Himachal Pradesh wrested the initiative after their lacklustre performance with the bat.

Goa 328 for 3 (Asnodkar 137*, Ratra 109*, Yohannan 2-45) v Kerala

Goa looked set for an imposing total as their batsmen piled on 328 for the loss of just three wickets on the first day in Palakkad. Swapnil Asnodkar, the Goa captain, and Ajay Ratra, the wicketkeeper, added an unbeaten 193 for the fourth wicket to leave the hosts facing another potentially tiring day in the field.

Goa began well, after electing to bat, with openers Sagun Kamat, who made 52, and Asnodkar, who remained unbeaten on 137, put on 105 for the first wicket. Kerala, however, struck back, taking three wickets for 30 runs to leave their opponents in a spot of bother at 135 for 3. But Ratra, who was not out on 109, and Asnodkar, scored at a rate of more than four an over, to take their team to a commanding position at stumps. Tinu Yohannan was the pick of the bowlers for Kerala, taking 2 for 45.

Tripura 206 for 7 (Rajib Saha 58) v Services

Rakesh Kumar, the left-arm medium bowler, took four wickets, and Shuvra Karmakar, the left-arm spinner, took three, as Tripura struggled to 206 for 7 against Services on the first day in Delhi. Tripura dominated the game for most of the day, with Rajib Saha top-scoring with 58 and adding 50 with Timir Chanda for the third wicket, and a further 45 with Nishit Shetty for the fourth, but lost four wickets for ten runs in under five overs to cede the initiative to Services.
