Ranji Trophy Super League - Final

Mumbai v Uttar Pradesh

Mumbai won by 243 runs

Overs 1-50  | Overs 51-100  | Overs 101-150

Hello and welcome to Cricinfo's ball-by-ball coverage of the Ranji Trophy final between Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh being played in Hyderabad. Mumbai have had an unbeaten run this tournament, and have conceded a first innings lead just once - against Saurashtra in the league stages. Barring that one setback, they've been dominant, winning five games, and have managed to see off the threat of being knocked out after bowling out Saurashtra in the semis to gain the all important first innings lead - Saurashtra had a better net run-rate in their previous games, which would have been enough to see them through had Mumbai failed to bowl them out.

In the event of an incomplete first innings in the final, the team with the higher net run-rate wins, and Wasim Jaffer, the Mumbai captain, has expressed his disappointment at the game being decided on such a basis. The rules for the final stipulate that the team batting second must bat at least 30 overs for the match to be decided on run-rates.

Jaffer has been the in-form batsman, among a few, for Mumbai. He scored a triple century against Saurashtra in the semis, while Sachin Tendulkar, who played his first Ranji game this season, scored a fluent 122. Jaffer and the prolific Ajinkya Rahane have both scored over a 1000 runs this tournament - they are the highest run-getters in this Ranji Trophy.

Uttar Pradesh, though, will be encouraged by the pitch. Their bowlers, particularly their seamers, have been their strength, and with the curator preparing a "sporting wicket" with a greenish tinge - Read Sriram Veera's preview to the final - one can wish for a competitive game.

Fast bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Praveen Kumar have done well, and so has legspinner Piyush Chawla, but UP have had only one win on their road to the finals. They got through after a closely fought game against Tamil Nadu in the semis, where a marathon, and unbeaten 178 off 569 balls by Shivakant Shukla, and a defiant 138 by Parvinder Singh helped them overhaul a daunting first innings TN score of 445 and qualify with just two wickets left. Tanmay Srivastava and captain Mohammad Kaif have been the other batting stars for UP.

The news from Hyderabad is that UP have won the toss and opted to bowl.

For UP, RP Singh replaces Imtiyaz Ahmed, the medium-pacer. Mumbai have made one change: Amul Muzumdar is out, and in comes Sairaj Bahutule.

The way to go for UP, after opting to bowl, is to capture early wickets. They will receive some help from the pitch, and will hope their seamers will utilise the conditions well.

It'll be Siddhartha Talya and Sanjay Murari taking you through the first day. We are all set for the start. Praveen Kumar will bowl, and Jaffer and Samant will open for Mumbai
