Izak Francois Nel Weideman was killed in a robbery attempt at the Maraishurg golf course in Johannesburg, where he worked as a green-keeper, on June 4. He was 40 years old. Francois, as he was known, represented Transvaal and Northern Transvaal as a medium-fast bowler and aggressive lower-order batsman from 1980-87. He also gained SA Universities colours while studying at Rand Afrikaans University.
