Ntini to Katich, FOUR, good delivery, jumping outside off, Katich shuffles across and stabs it away in the air but in the gap between slips and gully .. Not convincing but he is off the mark

Australia 4/0   SM Katich 4* (1b 1x4)   M Ntini 0.1-0-4-0

Steyn to Hughes, FOUR, Whack. Hughes pulls of one of his specials. He might look edgy, moving here and there in the crease but lashes out whenever an opportunity is presented. This one was short in length and just outside off, Hughes rocked back to knife it on the up and through extra cover. The bat covered the full arc.

Australia 11/0   PJ Hughes 6* (12b 1x4)   DW Steyn 2-1-6-0

Steyn to Hughes, FOUR, Thump. Full in length and outside off, Hughes stays back to force it through covers. Lovely expansive shot.

Australia 27/0   PJ Hughes 18* (23b 2x4)   DW Steyn 4.3-1-21-0

Kallis to Hughes, FOUR, short and outside off, Hughes gets back to crash it past the diving backward point fielder Imraan Khan for a fine boundary

Australia 35/0   PJ Hughes 25* (39b 3x4)   JH Kallis 1.3-1-6-0

Morkel to Katich, FOUR, That Katich shuffle attracts the bowlers into doing things they don't want to be dong; like drifting to the pads. Katich moves across to flick it away without any trouble.

Australia 49/0   SM Katich 19* (63b 2x4)   JA Morkel 2.3-1-7-0

Kallis to Hughes, FOUR, What he does well is to put away the loose ones. This was overpitched on the middle and off, from round the stumps, and Hughes drives to the straight boundary

Australia 53/0   PJ Hughes 33* (59b 4x4)   JH Kallis 4.5-1-17-0

Morkel to Katich, FOUR, How many times we have seen this. Four after a dropped catch or an appeal. Full and on the legs, whipped through the on side

Australia 58/0   SM Katich 23* (71b 3x4)   JA Morkel 3.4-1-12-0

Morkel to Hussey, FOUR, from round the stumps this time, full and outside off, Hussey is late in getting forward but goes through with the square drive nevertheless and manages to get it wide of the point fielder. He wasn't in control of that shot.

Australia 65/2   MEK Hussey 5* (8b 1x4)   JA Morkel 6-1-17-1

Ntini to Hussey, FOUR, slightly short in length and Hussey rocks back to cut it past point. Very nicely played; got on top of the bounce pretty well and didn't hit it hard.

Australia 70/2   MEK Hussey 9* (14b 2x4)   M Ntini 7.4-5-10-0

Steyn to Hussey, FOUR, banged in short again and Hussey plays a feisty pull through square leg. He connected rather well this time.

Australia 77/2   MEK Hussey 16* (17b 3x4)   DW Steyn 7.1-3-27-0

Steyn to Hussey, FOUR, the short-pitched barrage against Hussey continues and he is putting them away. He swiveled off the front foot to pull it right between deep square leg and fine leg. And he has reached 3000 Test runs as well.

Australia 81/2   MEK Hussey 20* (19b 4x4)   DW Steyn 7.3-3-31-0

Steyn to Katich, FOUR, inside-edge but it flies past the stumps. Full pitched, from round the stumps, and Katich went for the off drive but too much bottom hand shut the bat-face and he got a thick edge.

Australia 86/4   SM Katich 31* (99b 4x4)   DW Steyn 9.1-4-35-2

Steyn to Katich, FOUR, from wide of the crease, he sends down a overpitched delivery and Katich has driven it through covers. Again lots of bottom-hand in that shot; he almost flicked that cover drive, if you know what I mean.

Australia 91/4   SM Katich 35* (104b 5x4)   DW Steyn 9.5-4-40-2

Morkel to Haddin, FOUR, banged in short and Haddin waited for the ball to arrive before pulling it front of square. He rolled his wrists and hit it straight to the ground

Australia 98/4   BJ Haddin 4* (12b 1x4)   JA Morkel 6.3-1-22-1

Morkel to Haddin, FOUR, well-timed square drive. It was full and wide no doubt but Haddin reached out to play a delicious drive

Australia 106/4   BJ Haddin 8* (15b 2x4)   JA Morkel 7-1-26-1

Ntini to Katich, FOUR, short and wide, cut away to the point boundary. Ntini stands there for a while, mumbling to himself.

Australia 110/4   SM Katich 42* (111b 6x4)   M Ntini 11.1-6-19-0

Kallis to Haddin, FOUR, Fabulicious extra-cover drive, the most beautiful shot of the day. It was full in length and outside off stump, Haddin leaned across to cream it through the off side. Again, reminded a bit of Martyn there

Australia 117/4   BJ Haddin 12* (19b 3x4)   JH Kallis 5.3-1-21-0

Kallis to Haddin, FOUR, drifting in to the middle and leg line, Haddin got forward to wrist it to right of the diving mid-off fielder

Australia 121/4   BJ Haddin 16* (21b 4x4)   JH Kallis 5.5-1-25-0

Morkel to Katich, FOUR, short and wide, Katich threw the kitchen sink at it .. Tell me isn't it difficult to thrown the kitchen sink actually? Do they mean like throwing the dirty utensils into the sink?

Australia 125/4   SM Katich 49* (123b 7x4)   JA Morkel 8.2-2-30-1

Morkel to Haddin, FOUR, overpitched on the stumps and thats not much more than a defensive push off the toes that beats mid-on quite comfortably

Australia 130/4   BJ Haddin 21* (31b 5x4)   JA Morkel 10.1-3-34-1

Morkel to Haddin, FOUR, ah, close! Haddin chases a full, wide, swinging delivery and just spoons in in the air behind backward point to raise the 50-run stand, a loose shot but he survives

Australia 134/4   BJ Haddin 25* (36b 6x4)   JA Morkel 11-3-38-1

Morkel to Haddin, FOUR, lovely peachy drive. It was full in length and Haddin went through with the drive; it was in the air but superbly bisected the umpire and mid-on.

Australia 140/4   BJ Haddin 30* (40b 7x4)   JA Morkel 11.1-3-42-1

Steyn to Haddin, FOUR, overpitched and straying on the pads, Haddin clips it away to deep square leg boundary. Again very nicely timed. He is playing a lovely little innings here.

Australia 157/5   BJ Haddin 41* (59b 8x4)   DW Steyn 10.5-4-45-2

Harris to Johnson, FOUR, Johnson accepts the invitation finally. He got forward to loft a flighted delivery from outside off to the long-on boundary. We got a contest now.

Australia 166/6   MG Johnson 6* (12b 1x4)   PL Harris 10.4-4-16-3

Steyn to Johnson, FOUR, thinks a yorker but serves a full toss on the off stump and Johnson plays a crisp off drive well to the left of mid-off

Australia 171/6   MG Johnson 11* (19b 2x4)   DW Steyn 15-5-52-2

Ntini to McDonald, FOUR, edged but it drops short and rushes through between the diving Boucher and the lunging Kallis. He again shuffled outside off but Ntini kept it just outside off to induce the edge. It didn't carry to Boucher who flung himself to his right

Australia 180/6   AB McDonald 8* (37b 1x4)   M Ntini 14-6-28-0

Ntini to Johnson, FOUR, Shot! It was short in length and outside off and Johnson punched on the up and through the line and the ball sped away through wide mid-off region

Australia 187/6   MG Johnson 18* (39b 3x4)   M Ntini 15-6-35-0

Harris to Johnson, FOUR, Johnson opens his shoulders. Flighted outside off and Johnson swings it over wide midwicket. Here we go. Will he keep going after Harris? Will Harris get him?

Australia 194/8   MG Johnson 23* (46b 4x4)   PL Harris 15.3-5-27-3

Harris to Johnson, FOUR, drags this short and Mitch hangs on the back foot to pull it away with contempt.

Australia 204/8   MG Johnson 30* (50b 5x4)   PL Harris 16.4-5-33-3

Steyn to Johnson, FOUR, Superb shot to welcome Steyn. It was full and Johnson thrust his front foot out to slam it between the bowler and mid-on

Australia 209/8   MG Johnson 35* (52b 6x4)   DW Steyn 15.1-5-56-2
