Australia in South Africa ODI Series - 4th ODI

South Africa v Australia

South Africa won by 61 runs

We are all set. Bracken will bowl to Smith. Two slips in place. Here we go.

The umpires are strolling out, and have taken their positions. The players follow gradually, with the crowd's cheers reserved only for their two openers.

Just the customary pre-match discussion on TV. Play should start in about seven minutes from now. The pitch looks a little dry but historically has been one of the more competitive ones in the country, with a bit in it for everyone.

Harwood is the oldest Australian to debut in an ODI, since Bob Holland in 1985, when he was 38. Here's the list of relatively aged players who've taken a while before playing their first ODI.

Beautiful renditions of both the national anthems, and there's a fairly sizable crowd to join in as well.

The sun's beating down hard on St George's Park. The news is that Australia have won the toss and opted to bowl. "It's almost a grand final type game for us and we have an excellent record on this ground. The ball might seam around a little early on," says Ponting. Brett Geeves is out because of an injured foot, and has been replaced by Shane Harwood, who'll be making his debut. He's 35. Bob Simpson beat him to that, though. He was 42 when he played his first ODI.

Smith is keen to finish it off, though his team's record here has been pretty disappointing. Unsurprisingly, the hosts have gone with an unchanged team.

9.25 am: Hello and welcome to Cricinfo's live coverage of the fourth ODI between South Africa and Australia in Port Elizabeth. I'm George Binoy, filling in for Siddhartha Talya until he gets back from an appointment with Geoffrey Boycott.

The hosts have bounced back well after a thrashing in the first ODI, and now lead the series 2-1. Australia have to win this game to stay in the series, and will hope for a significantly better performance from their top order which let them down in their two losses. There is still some time left for the toss, so you can read the preview to the game in the meantime.

Right, Sid T's back, so over to him.

Thanks George, we're still waiting for the toss, the coverage rather. Some slick football stunts being shown for the time being. Right, it should be any minute now.

South Africa have done superbly to reach 317, considering their sedate start and some good bowling by the Australians early on. The innings was set up by the 136-run third-wicket stand between Gibbs and de Villiers. After both fell, Boucher and Duminy, after a shaky start in the last ten overs, did incredibly well at the death to help their team reach a formidable score. Australia have their task cut out, made all the more difficult by the fact that they are fighting to save the series. Join us in about 30 minutes for their run-chase.
