Broad to Smith, OUT, my goodness me, what a stunning moment for England, and what a breakthrough. Nothing much of a delivery, swinging gently down the leg side, but Smith tries to help it down to fine leg, doesn't get enough bat on it, and Matt Prior leaps like a rampant salmon to snaffle the first wicket of the series!

GC Smith c †Prior b Broad 0 (7m 7b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

South Africa 1/1   AG Prince 1* (2b)   SCJ Broad 0.3-0-1-1

Onions to Amla, OUT, Got him this time! Onions deserved that. Full and Amla is drawn into a firm drive but edges to Collingwood. Good low catch there going to his right

HM Amla c Collingwood b Onions 19 (88m 67b 2x4 0x6) SR: 28.35

South Africa 51/2   AG Prince 21* (51b 2x4)   G Onions 5.5-1-13-1

Swann to Prince, OUT, wow, he's done it again! Swann has a penchant for early breakthroughs, and that's a cracker. Perfect length, sharp and unexpected turn, and Paul Collingwood coolly accepts his second catch of the innings!

AG Prince c Collingwood b Swann 45 (155m 94b 6x4 0x6) SR: 47.87

South Africa 93/3   JH Kallis 17* (38b 2x4)   GP Swann 0.2-0-1-1

Swann to de Villiers, OUT, gone this time! Thrown up and gets the inside edge from de Villiers's defensive stroke and goes straight to Cook at short leg. Bit of turn and extra bounce, classic offspinner's delivery. England really needed that.

AB de Villiers c Cook b Swann 32 (82m 66b 5x4 0x6) SR: 48.48

South Africa 159/4   JH Kallis 51* (93b 5x4 1x6)   GP Swann 10.3-1-34-2

Anderson to Kallis, OUT, my goodness me, it's a breakthrough! I did not see that coming. Kallis was looking utterly serene, but Anderson found a good length with a hint of extra bounce and a fraction of away movement, and Collingwood at second slip scooped another fine low catch

JH Kallis c Collingwood b Anderson 120 (306m 225b 16x4 1x6) SR: 53.33

South Africa 283/5   JP Duminy 51* (123b 6x4 1x6)   JM Anderson 27-7-83-1

Swann to Duminy, OUT, Swann does it again! He has a real habit of getting a wicket early in his spell. Nicely flighted, finds a little turn and Duminy, leaning forward with a slightly open face, guides it to Collingwood at slip who makes no mistake

JP Duminy c Collingwood b Swann 56 (218m 150b 6x4 1x6) SR: 37.33

South Africa 316/6   MV Boucher 23* (44b 4x4)   GP Swann 24.5-5-61-3

Onions to Morkel, OUT, he's gone this time! Still feeling the effects of that blow, perhaps, as that was a bit of a flat-footed waft, and a thin low snick to the keeper, who gathers well

M Morkel c †Prior b Onions 13 (53m 48b 2x4 0x6) SR: 27.08

South Africa 341/7   MV Boucher 35* (74b 5x4)   G Onions 22.5-3-73-2

Swann to Boucher, OUT, Swann does the trick again. Regulation offspinners wicket. Pitched outside off stump, spun back sharply, caught the inside edge, and it went straight to Cook, who snaffles it gleefully. Unlucky for Boucher to fall one run short of 50 and England continue to stay just in reach of South Africa

MV Boucher c Cook b Swann 49 (156m 100b 6x4 0x6) SR: 49.00

South Africa 377/8   PL Harris 22* (48b 3x4)   GP Swann 37.1-8-88-4

Onions to Harris, OUT, oh, and that is out. Floated up outside off stump, Harris wafted, stood firmly in his crease, and inside edged in on to the base of the stumps.

PL Harris b Onions 38 (117m 89b 4x4 0x6) SR: 42.69

South Africa 414/9   F de Wet 20* (59b 3x4)   G Onions 28.5-5-82-3

Swann to de Wet, OUT, review. Gets well back and is struck plumb in front. de Wet calls for a review, since South Africa have one in the bank, but third umpire confirms the decision. Swann has five, the third time he's managed that in his career.

F de Wet lbw b Swann 20 (78m 67b 3x4 0x6) SR: 29.85

South Africa 418/10   M Ntini 4* (7b 1x4)   GP Swann 45.2-10-110-5
