India in South Africa ODI Series - 3rd ODI

South Africa v India

South Africa won by 106 runs

Hello and welcome to Cricinfo's coverage of the third one-day international between South Africa and India at Cape Town. This is Jamie Alter, and together with Sajan Nair I'll be covering the commentary of this match.

Toss: South Africa, 1-0 up with two more to play, have won the toss and decided to bat. Andrew Hall gets a game in place of Andre Nel. We haven't received confirmation over why he's not playing.

With Munaf Patel ruled out with a sore left ankle, India have brought in Irfan Pathan, to make it five bowlers, the others being Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh, Ajit Agarkar and Zaheer Khan. Virender Sehwag returns, and Dinesh Karthik gets a game as a batsman, with Suresh Raina and Dinesh Mongia missing out.

Pitch: Both sides will look at this bone-dry pitch and look to come good with the bat. While Durban was spongy, with good carry, this pitch is hard, flat and good for runs. There are a couple patches of green - but much less than at Durban - and also patches of white, indicating that it may turn as the day progresses. India have fielded two spinners, and no surprises that Graeme Smith decided to bat. A 250 here will be a very good score.

The captains said:
Graeme Smith: "I think the first 10 or 15 overs, whether we bat or bowl first, is going to be crucial. It will set up the game. We'll make sure we don't allow the Indians any sort of chance to get in during that time. We expect them to bounce back here and we are not going to take them lightly."

Rahul Dravid: "One of our goals is to get into the last 10 overs with six wickets in hand. It's something we have to achieve. We have not batted as well as we would have liked. It's a question of guys putting up runs on the board and spending time at the wicket, as simple as that."

Again, let me remind you about Match Vox, the latest feature from Cricinfo, which gives you a voice on the state of play in real time. Do post your thoughts and share them with the others who've turned on and tuned in.

Here we go. The umpires, Billy Doctrove and Brian Jerling, are out in the middle. India are taking the field, with the South African openers behind them. Zakeer Khan to start proceedings, Graeme Smith to face. Two slips in place, three men on the off side.

0.1

Khan to Smith, no run, good ball first-up! Full and swinging into him, pitches outside off stump and raps Smith going forward, a loud appeal but that ball was probably going over, close call but

It was one of the most amazing turnarounds you will ever see. Kemp was simply unstoppable and a treat to watch. India bled 113 runs in the last 10 overs as Kemp and Hall unleashed an all out attack which catapulted the South Africa total to 274.

Tendulkar and Sehwag will open the innings for India - Pollock with the new ball.

0.1

Khan to Smith, no run, short of a good length delivery, shaping in a touch - Sehwag gets right behind the line and presents the full face of the bat

0.2

Khan to Smith, OUT, bowled 'em! A tad fuller this time, 133.2ks on a sweet spot, swings in and beats Smith's tame forward drive, ball sneaks through bat and pad and crashes into off stump, big wicket, well bowled Zaheer Khan!

GC Smith b Khan 0 (2m 2b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

Look at Zaheer's reaction - he loves that wicket! His team-mates embrace him!

Jacques Kallis comes in a little earlier than he may have reckoned. Two slips in place.

0.3

Khan to Kallis, no run, good, full, quick ball thats angled across him and then gets some late swing, but Kallis knows where his off stump is and gets a step forward and shoulders arms

0.4

Khan to Kallis, OUT, GONE! Whoah Nelly! Full, fast and moving away from him, 130.4ks Kallis reaches a long way for it, has a big swish at that and can only nick it through to Tendulkar at first slip! Huge wicket, Zak's back!
