India in South Africa ODI Series - 4th ODI

South Africa v India

South Africa won by 80 runs

Over the wicket to Smith

And here come Graeme Smith and Loots Bosman, the two opening batsmen and Zaheer Khan will deliver the first over. Khan's dismissed Smith twice this series...he doesn't like it swinging.

Good afternoon everyone. Sriram's temporarily out of action so it's me, Will Luke, to take you through the opening overs at Port Elizabeth. We're about five minutes away from starting, so stick with us. India are out in the field in the huddle, as ever, and the pitch is looking pretty dry. Surprising that Harbhajan has been left out...

Toss Graeme Smith has choosen to bat first. Smith has won the toss third time in a row. Virender Sehwag, the acting captain, said had he won the toss, he would have batted as well.

South Africa made just one change to their side with Andre Nel, controversially left out of the previous game, returning. Andrew Hall, who replaced him for the previous game and turned in an inspirational allround performance, kept his place while Charl Langeveldt missed out.

India decided to pick Wasim Jaffer, a decision that would mean that Sachin Tendulkar would drop down to No.3. Harbhajan Singh, who'd had a fine season till he touched down in South Africa, was dropped with India deciding to go in with just one spinner in Anil Kumble. It leaves them with a four-man pace attack and Dinesh Karthik continuing to play as a specialist batsman.

Hi and a warm welcome to the fourth ODI. I am Sriram Veera and along with Sajan Nair, will bring you the live ball-by-commentary today.

0.1

Khan to Smith, no run, and a straight ball on middle, swinging just a touch away but Smith jabs down on it solidly

Movement behind the bowler's arm. Come on, get of the way...

0.2

Khan to Smith, no run, excellent line from Zaheer, just short of a length and Smith comes tentatively forward

Pitch is looking pretty slow here

0.3

Khan to Smith, OUT, GODDIM! Swinging in, it straightens on Smith who comes down the track and that's absolutely plumb. Dreadful, careless shot from Smith. That's it from me. It's over to the venerable Sriram Veera whose office has now regained power. For now.

GC Smith lbw b Khan 0 (2m 3b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

0.4

Khan to Kallis, FOUR, ooh....Zaheer swung this one back in but started around the legstump, Kallis stretched out and it brushed his pads and ran to the fineleg fence

0.5

Khan to Kallis, no run, Huge appeal for lbw from Zaheer but Sir, it pitched outside leg and btw was missing the stumps too. Apart from that nothing wrong with the appeal...

LE Bosman b Sreesanth 0 (15m 2b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

Welcome to Match Vox, with the news that South Africa won the toss and are batting first. India are 2-0 down in the series and go in to this match with a stand-in captain and a new opening combination, and without their best batsman. It's the perfect chance for South Africa to close down the series - and for India to begin their fightback. Over to you. Do post your thoughts and share them with the others who've turned on and tuned in.

South Africa have their three top batsmen back in the hut with less than 100 on the board. So far a familiar story. SM Pollock    37* (41b 2x4 2x6)      A Kumble    10-0-42-2

46.1

Khan to Gibbs, 1 leg bye, starts off with a short ball on the middle and leg stump line, ball stopped a bit after hitting the deck, probably the slower delivery - Gibbs has a mighty swing at it but misses the target by miles - ball rolls away off the shoulder and they scamper through for a leg-bye

46.2

Khan to Pollock, no run, excellent bowling - follows up the slower ball with a yoker and Pollock ends up driving it straight back to the bowler. Zak is back for sure.

46.3

Khan to Pollock, OUT, pulled away at one bounce to the fielder at midwicket - Pollock takes off for a suicidal run but Gibbs stands his ground. Kumble's shy at the stumps misses the stumps, but Dhoni running in from behind grabs the ball with both hands and punches the stumps - Pollock is inches away from the crease but that's enough for the tv-umpire to press the button-of-death.

SM Pollock run out 37 (34m 43b 2x4 2x6) SR: 86.04

46.4

Khan to Hall, 1 run, turned away towards short midwicket

46.5

Khan to Gibbs, 1 run, full and straight, driven down to long-off for a single

46.6

Khan to Hall, no run, right in the blockhole, Hall jams his bat down and digs it away towards cover - End of a fantastic over

End of over 47 (3 runs) South Africa 218/7 (RR: 4.63)
AJ Hall    1* (2b)      Z Khan    7-1-28-1
HH Gibbs    82* (114b 7x4)      SR Tendulkar    8-0-46-1

47.2

Sreesanth to Gibbs, 1 run, high fulltoss and Gibbs hammers it away to deep cover

47.3

Sreesanth to Hall, 1 run, driven down to long-on, again just a single

This has been a surprisingly good performance from the Indian bowlers in the slog over. Last time around Kemp took them to the cleaners and scripted a memorable innings.

47.4

Sreesanth to Gibbs, no run, again full and outside the off stump, Gibbs once again makes room and finds himself out of reach

47.5

Sreesanth to Gibbs, 1 run, attempted yorker ends up as a low fulltoss and Gibbs thuds straight to the fielder at long-on

47.6

AJ Hall    3* (4b)      S Sreesanth    6-1-20-1

48.1

Khan to Hall, no run, starts off with a slower ball and Hall is beaten

48.2

Khan to Hall, 2 runs, played away wide of the fielder at long-on, sprints across for the first run and they make it back safely for the second

48.3

Khan to Hall, 1 run, off the edge to silly mid-off - Khan moves across and has a shy at the bowler's end stumps but fails to hit the target - Hall lives on

48.4

Khan to Gibbs, FOUR, full and on the stumps, yorker gone wrong - Gibbs gets under it and lofts it down to the long-on fence - one bounce and over the rope she goes

There was a fielder placed in the deep but Gibbs managed to hit it straight enough to beat that man.

48.5

Khan to Gibbs, 2 runs, another fuller length delivery, driven past the fielder at cover

48.6

Khan to Gibbs, 1 run, pulled away to midwicket, not a well timed shot

End of over 49 (10 runs) South Africa 232/7 (RR: 4.73)
HH Gibbs    91* (121b 8x4)      Z Khan    8-1-38-1

49.1

Sreesanth to Gibbs, 1 run, driven away to deep cover

49.2

Sreesanth to Hall, SIX, that's a massive hit! low fulltoss outside the off stump, again the yorker gone wrong - Hall swings across and gets it on the middle - ball sails over the long-on fence

Welcome runs for South Africa - can they get to 250?

49.3

Sreesanth to Hall, 1 run, OUT, driven away to wide long-on. Hall is bit late off the blocks - Karthik's throw comes in at the striker's end - Hall is home, wait he has forgotten to ground his bat. They go upstairs and the red light flashes.

AJ Hall run out 13 (13m 9b 0x4 1x6) SR: 144.44

49.4

Sreesanth to Nel, 1 bye, swing and a miss outside the off stump, Gibbs was half way down the track even before the ball was delivered and he makes it across safely

49.5

Sreesanth to Gibbs, 1 run, fulltoss, driven straight to the fielder cover

49.6

Sreesanth to Nel, 1 leg bye, excellent delivery to end the over and the innings - yorker and it goes through Nel

Much better performance form the Indian bowlers, they have restricted South Africa to 243 on a batting surface - can the batsmen back them up? Do join us in 40 minutes time and we will find out.

End of over 50 (11 runs) South Africa 243/8
A Nel    0* (2b)      S Sreesanth    7-1-29-1
