India won by 123 runs
15,16,17,18 December 2006 (5-day match)
  • Overs 1-50
  • Overs 51-100

Ntini to Jaffer, OUT, Gone! full and on the stumps, Jaffer leaves this one alone and it is a big, big mistake. The ball thuds into pad and the appeal is spontaneous and vociferous. Up goes the finger. That was out. And South Africa have picked up their first wicket

W Jaffer lbw b Ntini 9 (42m 40b 2x4 0x6) SR: 22.50

India 14/1   V Sehwag 4* (21b)   M Ntini 5-1-8-1

Pollock to Sehwag, OUT, And another! Shaun Pollock strikes! This one is short of a length and outside the off, Sehwag does not have the patience of Jaffer and he pokes at the ball. There's just a touch of away movement and this takes the ball away from the middle of the bat. The ball kisses the outside edge and lands safely in Mark Boucher's gloves. Sehwag goes and India are now two down before lunch

V Sehwag c †Boucher b Pollock 4 (46m 26b 0x4 0x6) SR: 15.38

India 14/2   R Dravid 0* (0b)   SM Pollock 2.5-1-5-1

Kallis to Tendulkar, OUT, Big one! Jacques Kallis gets the prize wicket of Tendulkar. The ball is pitched on and around the off stump, hints at going away, bounces just a touch extra. The ball takes the edge, it's a thick one and goes towards second sliip where AB de Villers gratefully accepts the chance! Pity that for Tendulkar who had done all the hard work against the quicker bowlers and then fell to Kallis!

SR Tendulkar c de Villiers b Kallis 44 (113m 89b 7x4 0x6) SR: 49.43

India 83/3   R Dravid 19* (61b 3x4)   JH Kallis 2.4-0-6-1

Kallis to Dravid, OUT, Kallis delivers another killer blow! good length delivery, right in the channel and shaping in a touch. Dravid is sucked forward into the drive and the edge is produced. Smith at second slip takes a good low catch. India four down and in deep trouble here.

R Dravid c Smith b Kallis 32 (151m 83b 5x4 0x6) SR: 38.55

India 110/4   VVS Laxman 2* (19b)   JH Kallis 6-0-17-2

Ntini to Laxman, OUT, full and on the stumps, in the dying light Makhaya Ntini produces a superb ball. This one comes in with the arm but pitches and straightens. Laxman plays at that - he has to - but cannot quite get the bat all the way across and behind the ball. The ball takes the outside edge, it's not a very thick one but the sound is unmistakable and India have lost a big wicket just when a good partnership was building.

VVS Laxman c †Boucher b Ntini 28 (104m 67b 5x4 0x6) SR: 41.79

India 156/5   SC Ganguly 14* (42b 2x4)   M Ntini 12.5-1-34-2

Ntini to Dhoni, OUT, good length delivery outside the off stump. Dhoni line it up nicely and drives hard but fails to keep it down, Pollock moves across from extra cover, drives across full length to his left and takes a one-handed blinder. A certain Mr. Jonty Rhodes would have been proud of that catch. That's the wicket they wanted - we are into the Indian tail now.

MS Dhoni c Pollock b Ntini 5 (23m 20b 0x4 0x6) SR: 25.00

India 167/6   SC Ganguly 20* (53b 3x4)   M Ntini 15-1-40-3

Nel to Kumble, OUT, Nel strikes! short of a good length delivery, pitched wide outside the off stump and coming in with the angle. Kumble goes right back and shoulders arms but leaves his bat hanging low in the air - thick edge produced and Kallis at second slip makes no mistake. India seven down.

A Kumble c Kallis b Nel 6 (23m 15b 1x4 0x6) SR: 40.00

India 188/7   SC Ganguly 31* (67b 3x4 1x6)   A Nel 17.4-5-44-1

Pollock to Khan, OUT, and Pollock cashes in! full and on the stumps. Zaheer goes down on one knee in an attempt to, well looked like he was looking to sweep Pollock. Missed the ball my miles and he is caught stone dead. Loud appeal and the finger goes up straightaway

Z Khan lbw b Pollock 9 (32m 23b 0x4 0x6) SR: 39.13

India 205/8   SC Ganguly 39* (85b 3x4 1x6)   SM Pollock 14.4-7-23-2

Pollock to Sreesanth, OUT, that's the end of that! good length delivery outside the off stump. Deliberately bowled bit wide and Sreesanth is sucked into the drive. Ball clips the outer half of the bat and flies away towards point. Amla moves across to his left and takes a good catch. Ganguly is running out of partners here

S Sreesanth c Amla b Pollock 0 (3m 2b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

India 205/9   SC Ganguly 39* (85b 3x4 1x6)   SM Pollock 15-7-23-3

Pollock to Singh, OUT, Got him! Slower ball and gone! VRV Singh goes for a big heave over the leg side and can only send the ball straight up in the air. Pollock judges the catch well and settles under it to pick up four for the innings and take his career tally to 399 wickets!

VRV Singh c & b Pollock 29 (27m 19b 6x4 0x6) SR: 152.63

India 249/10   SC Ganguly 51* (101b 4x4 1x6)   SM Pollock 17.5-7-39-4
