Bob Merriman, a former industrial relations commissioner of Australia, was appointed as Cricket Australia's chairman in 2001 after 13 years on the Board. A club player with Melbourne and Geelong, Merriman is the patron of the Geelong Cricket Association, which he was president of from 1965 to 1976, the president of Cricket Victoria and Australia's delegate on the ICC's executive and ICC development international boards.

After managing the 1979 tour to India, Merriman became the Australian Cricket Board's first full-time manager from 1984 to 1986, which included tours to England, India, the United Arab Emirates and New Zealand. Merriman is a Member of the Order of Australia for services to the game as an administrator, and is also the chairman of Cricket Australia's industrial relations, international and remuneration committees.
