Chris Gayle says West Indies will not be taking it easy when they meet Bermuda in the one-day tri-series in Canada on Wednesday. The tournament opened on Monday when Canada beat Bermuda by 25 runs and barring a major upset, West Indies will play Canada in the final on Sunday.

But Gayle said his team would be taking nothing for granted and their focus was on posting a strong win against Bermuda, who have never beaten a full ICC member nation in an ODI. "We will be looking to step on the gas and make a winning start," Gayle told CMC. "We are looking forward to this game and the other games and we are here to play really hard.

"I have spoken to all the players and they fully understand why we are here and what is required. This is an official ODI. We are not taking anyone for granted. We will play hard cricket whoever we meet."

After Wednesday's game, West Indies face Canada on Friday before almost certainly playing in Sunday's decider. They are the team's first appearances since Gayle resigned as captain only to take the job back a few weeks later, and he said he had no qualms about continuing to lead the side.

"I'm totally comfortable as captain," Gayle said. "I am looking to do a good job for West Indies cricket and see how we can continue to work as a team.

"Communication with everyone is key at this stage and my main focus is to contribute in a big way as a leader and a player. I have everyone's support and it is good to be back with the players once more."

West Indies are without Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who is playing county cricket with Durham, and the injured Dwayne Bravo. The tri-series will provide an opportunity to trial some new middle-order players, including Leon Johnson and the former Queensland batsman Brendan Nash.
