David Otley played for Middlesex 2nd XI for eight seasons between 1963 and 1970 but his seven first-team outings all came in the second half of 1967. The extended run was to no avail as he managed only 109 runs in nine innings. He played regularly for Herfordshire and Minor Counties and in 1975, a week after his 41st birthday and 18 years since his penultimate first-class appearance, he scored a career-best 47 for Minor Counties against the Zimbabweans.
