Only 17 at the start of the first summer after the war, John Bartlett took 38 wickets for Cambridge including 7 for 38 from 35 overs in the Varsity match at Lord's. He capped a remarkable season by being picked for the Gentlemen against the Players at Lord's. By the start of the 1947 season he was doing his National Service, and when he did return in 1951 he found wickets harder to come by although he did win another Blue. Later in the season he toured Canada with the MCC.
