  • It was the eighth match between these two sides. The record now reads: Pakistan 7, Bangladesh 1.
  • Umpires Asoka De Silva and AV Jayaprakash were officiating in their third and seventh match.
  • Pakistan's total (320-3) is the highest by any side in Asia Cup matches. The previous highest was 319 for five in 50 overs by Pakistan also against Bangladesh at Colombo SSC on 16-07-1997.
  • Pakistan has now made a score of 300 and more on 17 occasions in ODIs. On the other hand Bangladesh has now conceded a total of 300 plus on seven occasions.
  • Khaled Mashud became first Bangladeshi `keeper not to concede a bye in a total of 300 plus on two separate occasions. The earlier such occasion for him was in the match against West Indies at this same venue on 09-10-1999 when West Indies made 314 for six in their stipulated 50 overs. Overall it was the third such instance for Bangladesh with Nasir Ahmed `Nasu' being the only other one to do so.

  • Pakistan's victory (by 233 runs) is the largest by any side in ODI history. The previous record was held by Australia who had beaten Sri Lanka by 232 runs in a WSC match at Adelaide on 28-01-1985.
  • Pakistan's previous largest win was recorded against Sri Lanka by 192 runs in a World Cup match at Nottingham on 14-06-1975.
  • Bangladesh's total (87) is its lowest ever in ODIs. This obliterates the previous lowest of 92 against Zimbabwe at Nairobi (Aga) on 14-10-1997.
  • The total is also the lowest by any side in Asia Cup matches obliterating the previous lowest of 94 by Bangladesh also against Pakistan at Moratuwa on 31-03-1986.
  • Arshad Khan conceded only 5 runs in his eight overs, which is the most economical analysis by a Pakistani bowler in a eight over spell in ODIs. The previous record was on the name of Sikander Bakht who conceded 11 runs in his 8 overs against India at Sialkot on 13-10-1978.
