Scorecard summary
Sri Lanka 117/10(27.4 overs)
New Zealand 118/0(8.2 overs)

Martin Guptill is Man of the Match for his 93* off 30 balls (Highlights for US only) "No, I didn't. Got a couple of yorkers so I couldn't get it. I'll take a ninety and a win, rather than the fastest fifty and getting out. Just wanted to keep going after the first game. Thought about what could have been if I hadn't had those sluggish innings before [regarding his turnaround]. I was hoping you could tell me [about what has changed in his batting]." He goes on to praise the young players and how they field and that's a [very early] wrap. Thanks for your company, even if it was quite brief. Hope you join us again when the one-day caravan moves to Nelson on New Year's Eve.

"It was quite embarrassing. A pathetic batting display, we didn't give our bowlers a chance,"Angelo Mathews says, "Three more games to go, its unfortunate we couldn't even compete in the first two. We wanted ot be positive up front and not lose too many wickets. But we out middle order was exposed again. Use the time off for a net and then also to get our mindsets right, talk to the boys and keep ourselves motivated. There are three more games to turn it around. It was a belter of a pitch, the execution was probably [wrong] It didn't seam and bounce, just was just bad shot selection"

"Just stiff [back]" says Brendon McCullum who rested most of the match after hurling himself into a boundary board, "I asked the guys to go up a gear today after Boxing Day and they responded. Another good toss to lose. The guys started brilliantly and the pitch seemed a touch quicker, which played a part. Henry, Bracewell and McClenaghan started so well to pose some questions [ for the selectors] and the fielder was outstanding as well. the new players have understood the dynamics of the group and fitted in perfectly. The likes of Santner have contributed immensely. I thought Guptill was going to get the World record. You can't describe that, you only see it once or twice and it was genuine strokemaking. There are very few players who can play like that and Martin is certainly one of them. Motivation is not a factor, we are playing for the country. That's what we expect of us. We are playing a Sri Lanka team who are full of fighters and we need to keep doing our best."

"Quick records in this innings: Fastest team 50, fastest team 100, second-fastest 50 in ODIs by Guptill, most runs in first 10 overs by a batsman (Guptill again), second-fastest team innings of ODI history." Top work from ESPNcricinfo's award-winning statsguru Bharath Seervi

2.05 pm Well, that was... . The match only lasted 36 overs, mostly because Sri Lanka's batsman just could not find an answer against New Zealand's pace. Then the chase only lasted 8.2 overs because the visitors were left in the dust again as Martin Guptill made an unbeaten 93 off only 30 balls. Let me repeat that ninety-bloody-three off only thirty bloody balls. With eight humongous sixes and nine fours. That means he ran only nine of his runs today. What the heck?!? Angelo Mathews may well be echoing my disbelief at the presenation. We'll bring it to you in a bit

Sud: "Now Nz..must continue and play their quota of 50 overs...and ask SL to chase that total... :P"

Dave: "Can we please organise a quick T20 game for after lunch or even another 50 over game"

lee: "Brendan McCullum wasn't available to play the role of Brendan McCullum so Martin Guptill played it instead, and some."

AH_USA: "It was bad enough for SL to put only 117 on the board but it is even worse for them the way NZ is finishing up the game. Total annihilation."

Faheem: "NZ 106/0 in 6.4 OVERS, WI 150/6 in 64.4 OVERS.. Plastering and Blasting by NZzzz"

that time he had to make room for himself, which he has been doing so easily. Slapped through cover. Now he is looking for the fastest 100 in ODI cricket! That was in 31 balls by AB

Vandersay to Guptill, FOUR runs

first ball in ODI cricket is a long hop, which Guptill muscles over the short fine leg. Pitching middle and leg, going on with the arm because there is not as much spin. Was close to the diving man at 45 degrees, but it was a very hard chance
