Commentary

It's been a difficult tour, but New Zealand have achieved something very significant here. They allowed South Africa back in the game, starting with the way Brendon McCullum got out, but Williamson saw them through to a competitive score, and New Zealand were far superior in the field during the chase. The players shake hands, South Africa will have to introspect, these are two games they could have won. Big smiles in the New Zealand camp. Lots of flak for their performances of late, but this should lift their spirits. We'll get you the presentation details in just a bit. A collective effort, Elliott, Mills, Nathan McCullum all rallied around Williamson with the bat, and the bowlers fought back superbly, backed up by some excellent fielding.

Faf du Plessis: "We didn't play well again, they got 20 runs too many. Five run-outs is unacceptable. At 167-1 more often than not you should win the game, we as a batting unit must accept the responsibility of not playing as well as we should have. It's a young team, so hopefully we learn from it. Kane played brilliantly, he was cramping, and he didn't throw his wicket away. We'll definitely come back fighting."

Brendon McCullum: "It's a phenomenal win, the ninth ranked team in the world against the top team, it'll go down as one of our biggest wins in the limited-overs games. Our character, fighting spirit, qualities we want to be known for...Williamson's innings was as good as we've seen from a New Zealander. We've lost a fair bit to South Africa as well, some fresh enthusiasm in this group, we were outplayed in the Test matches. Nathan McCullum was phenomenal in that spell of bowling, the fielding was probably as good as we have shown. Very pleased, and for the fans back home this is a bit of love for them as well."

No surprises for Man of he Match, Kane Williamson it is: "Nice to contribute like that in such an important game. It's been tough playing the No.1 team in the world. Cramped up a little bit but the guys at the other end helped us get a good total. Just contributing the way I did to winning the game...Elliott was outstanding, all the others chipped in."

Seems like a man of few words does Kane, but he's more than done his job this game. Thanks for joining us and sending us your feedback. Alex Winter's match report is ready to be read. There's another game left in this series, a dead rubber now but one South Africa will be determined not to lose. Join us then, it's on the 25th at Potchemstroom. Until the next time, it's goodbye.
