Sri Lanka finish on 251. Not sure that is enough against a deep Indian batting line-up? It is a slower track than the one used for Saturday's game, so shot making is a little tougher.

Dhoni's risky strategy of dropping a bowler and bolstering the batting has paid off so far. Manoj Tiwary's first India game in eight months is a success even before he has got a chance to bat. The last time he batted for India, he made his highest List A score, and now he has his best List A figures. He was one of only two bowlers to bowl their full quota.

Sri Lanka made a steady start, and gambled by taking the Batting Powerplay early. Both openers fell soon after, but the innings seemed on track as Chandimal and Thirimanne put on a measured stand. Chandimal holed out to a half-tracker from Tiwary, and after that Sri Lanka couldn't find any momentum, till Herath and Malinga had some fun at the end.

What's more India have finished five minutes ahead of schedule, not a common occurrence.

Aditya Saxena: "3 words - 'Poor Rahul Sharma'" Aayush Agarwal: "Tiwary is now the leading wicket taker for India in this series !!" Aniruddha: "After watching Tiwary's bowling, Rohit Sharma must be more nervous than Sri Lankans."

James: "" His bowling is just utter rubbish. Even my mother could have hit that". Not quite Sameer.

Boycs would actually have said: "It's roobish, is this. Me Granma could 'it that wi' stick o' rhubarb"."

Abhishek Jain: "Did anyone notice that Thirimanne did not score a single boundary in his innings??" I hadn't.

Vinod: "Tiwary's bowling reminds me of a "Great" West Indian legspinner called Rawl Lewis.. Does anyone remember him?" Yes, he makes an appearance in today's Ask Steven column. As does a man making his debut today, Nuwan Pradeep.

Siddhartha Talya is finishing up the innings report, take a look. I'll be back in half an hour or so, around 6.30pm

Tiwary to Herath, SIX runs, whoah! that is the shot of the innings, Herath finishes off the innings in style, he's a great tailender to watch, skips down the track and demolishes that one over wide long-on for another six, an expensive final over but that isn't going to wipe the smile off Tiwary's face
Tiwary to Malinga, 1 run, down the track and clubbed towards long-on
Tiwary to Malinga, SIX runs, Malinga murders that to the midwicket boundary, he charged out, Tiwary sent it short but that doesn't stop Malinga, who swings it for six
Tiwary to Herath, 1 run, in the air again, swept again, the ball lands short of the man in the deep, three more deliveries, can he get a five-for?
Tiwary to Herath, FOUR runs, for a moment Tiwary thought he had his fifth, Herath charged out and swung it towards deep midwicket, ball was in the air for a long time, but lands between long-on and midwicket
Tiwary to Herath, no run, Herath again looks to swipe, misses and is struck on the pad, the ball rolls back towards Dhoni

Tiwary to finish off the innings

49 | 7 Runs | SL: 233/8 | RR: 4.75

  • Rangana Herath6 (11b)
  • Lasith Malinga8 (5b)
  • Virender Sehwag8-1-38-1
  • Manoj Tiwary9-1-43-4

Just 18 overs of pace in this innings, though India have only one specialist spinner and three specialist quicks

Sehwag to Herath, 1 run, pitched up and a tailender's slog towards deep midwicket
Sehwag to Malinga, 1 run, swiped towards deep square leg for a single
Sehwag to Herath, 1 run, full ball is defended to the leg side, Sehwag goes up in appeal for the lbw, Dhoni is quickly after the ball as the batsmen sneak a run, Dhoni's throw is way off target though
