Commentary

So, that's all from your commentary team in London - Andrew McGlashan (whose final bulletin is up and ready for your perusal), Sahil Dutta and Liam Brickhill, and not forgetting our man at the ground, Andrew Miller. Thanks for joining us, and a special thank you as well for everyone who sent in feedback. The second Test starts on Friday at Old Trafford in Manchester, with our coverage starting at 10.30am, local time, on the day. Please do join us again for that!

Steven Finn gets the Man of the Match award for his nine wickets in the match: "It's strange if I dont do it [fall over] two or three times in a match! Having lots of overs under your belt helps. I've bowled a lot of overs this season and I seem to have found a good rhythm."

Andrew Strauss: "It was far from a pushover, we had to work hard for this victory. Our bowling wasn't as good as it should have been in the first half of the game, but improved as the bowlers got some miles. Jonathan Trott played very well, we've talked a lot about getting big scores and he showed great temperament. Finn also bowled really well, he got pace and bounce and got more out of that track than anyone else."

Team make-up: "I dont think we've decided on one particular way of doing it. but on this track, early season in England we expected some help for the bowlers but there wasnt much in the track. we'll see how the bowlers pull up after today, the selectors are meeting tonight."

Shakib al Hasan: "We lost too many wickets in the first session, if we had batted one more hour we could have drawn the match. But the top-order batsmen played really well, especially with so many short balls at them. But our bowlers didn't do their job, expecially the fast bowlers. They need to work hard, practice and improve."

"Tamim was exceptional throughout this game, he batted really well. We need to improve and along the way we'll start to win games. This pitch was bouncy, but nice to bat on. With the overcast conditions the ball started moving a lot though!"

And, on that note, so ends the first Test. Bangladesh were a disappointment today, as the middle and lower order folded once again in overcast conditions. The sun then came out for England and the visitors' seam attack sprayed the ball around, allowing England to get off to a flying start. Shakib and Mahmudullah bowled well thereafter, but the game had already been lost by then.

Extraordinary, the game had been won, the Bangladesh players were coming over to shake his hand, and Trott was scraping his foot along his deeply furrowed leg-stump guard...

Mahmudullah to Trott, FOUR runs, that'll do it! Too short, Trott flicks out to deep square leg off the back foot and England win the first Test by 8 wickets. Fitting that Trott is the one to do it, after his marathon effort in the first innings, which really set things up for England.

Goodness me, Trott takes guard!
