Match State: Delay - rain

And they have come off as the rain is getting too heavy and we have the familiar sight in this series of the groundstaff pulling on the covers. As it stands New Zealand will win under the Duckworth Lewis calculations. There is a possibility of further play and the local view is that the rain may let up so fingers crossed. I will bring you updates whenever I can.

19.10 Right, we will start losing overs in the next 15 minutes and then lose one every five minutes. We have 15 overs left so there is still some time left yet. Were they to come out, New Zealand are 9 runs ahead and West Indies would need wickets.

In the meantime if you would like to keep up with all the cricket news events like Matthew Hayden's retirement get the Cricinfo newsletter Cricinfo Daily

19.30 Rain is still coming down I'm afraid so no change yet. No more details to give you but as soon as I hear I will l let you know.

19.50 Bad news folks, the match has been abandoned due to the incessant rain which shows no sign of letting up. That means that New Zealand wins the game by 9 runs under the Duckworth Lewis method and the ODI series 2-1.

Unsurprisingly Chris Gayle receives the Man of the match award for his fabulous 135. He sounds a very disappointed man and so he should be, he and Chanderpaul played superbly to give their team a excellent platform. However, there were precious few contributions from the rest of the team and some of the batting at the death was mindless slogging where run gathering would have got them the extra 15-20 runs that may have made the difference.

Having said that New Zealand did well and having received some treatment earlier pulled the game back in within reach.

Their chase started off at an incredible pace and the fifty came up in the fifth and the hundred in the twelfth. There was some woefully erratic bowling from Powell and Edwards whose control could not match their fire and extras supplemented some meaty shots from McCullum, Ryder and Guptill. Baker and Pollard brought a measure of control but even when Powell returned to pick up a couple of wickets with the rain looming that start stood New Zealand in good stead.

With the rain getting heavier, Taylor took the batting Powerplay and some delightful drives took them past the Duckworth Lewis par score and into control. It was certainly cruel on Gayle and Chanderpaul who were the outstanding performers of the day but as Gayle said afterward that whilst West Indies played good cricket in patches New Zealand played the better cricket overall throughout the series.

I hope you have enjoyed the game. I'm Jamie Allaway, and if you still have an appetite for more cricket, Australia vs South Africa in Brisbane starts in just over an hour's time on Cricinfo.

Powell to Taylor, 2 runs, a drive goes to Nash at mid off who has a shy which goes for an overthrow. They need to look for a wicket and it is getting greasy so understandable
